We loved our stay with Victoria at b&b de la Fontaine! It’s the cutest place in a great location. Everything is very walkable and central ! It has a lot of charm and character because it’s an old family run business. Breakfast is served promptly at 830 AM with a variety of breads, fruits, cheese and jam, Nutella !, yoghurt and hard boiled eggs, with coffee and tea choices. Victoria is very helpful and accommodating. Some other reviews mentioned toilet problems but this was absolutely not an issue for us. I’ve been known to clog a toilet or two, especially when out of the country, and there were no issues for us. Sounds like a personal problem and definitely not a Fontaine issue ! Thank you Victoria and Fontaine for making our trip to Quebec City very wonderful.

Our room was on the second floor. The room was tiny, no closet, cramped bathroom. Access from ground level was a steep and narrow stairway. Access for breakfast was in the basement via another steep narrow stairs. The front door of the building was held open with a chain, so that access was freely available for non guests.

Bonjour,We have 2 fronts doors and the majority of first front door in Old Quebec city ( 400 years ) is the same.It is havy and help us to keep the heat from the escaping.ThanksB&B de la Fontaine

Cosiest weekend ever!
We had such a lovely time at B&B de la Fontaine. I’ve stayed in Quebec City overnight a couple times before, but never did I have such a good experience as I did here. Our on-site concierge Jeremy was so kind and helpful! My husband and I came to celebrate the first two nights of our honeymoon and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. With its central location in Old Quebec, we were always just steps from restaurants and activities. We were so impressed that breakfast was included, too! Which was perfect for a young couple like us, who don’t have a ton of cash to spend on a fancy Quebec City brunch. Our room was clean, cosy, and had everything we needed. We’ll 100% be staying here again!

We had a lovely stay at B&B La Fontaine. Location is perfect ; its like stepping back in time on this historical street. Vincent, the caretaker, was wonderful. There was fresh fruit, variety of bread, spreads for toast, cereal and the scrambled eggs and pancakes were delicious along with the great coffee!. Our room was clean and spacious and we loved all the historical decor. Will definitely stay there again.

Was a great place to stay, when visiting old Quebec. The house was quaint, the rooms were nicely decorated and well equipped. The contentiential breakfast offered something for everyone. It was close to attractions and a variety of different dining options!

There is no parking on-site or on the street. It is in Old Quebec city, and that is probably common, but we did not know that before we arrived. The location is hard to beat, as it is just a couple of blocks from the Chateau.

Good price at a very good location. Everything is within walking distance. Although it is an old building, it is well maintained. The service was very good. The breakfast provided everyday was nutritious, including egg, crepes, pan cakes, coffee, juice, milk and others. In Quebec City, this breakfast, including tip, can cost you over fourty dollars for two people.

The special instructions provided in the reservation information omitted the fact that there is no parking at this accommodation site. We had to use municipal parking a 15 minute walk away which was very inconvenient especially when info was not provided in the listing or prior to check-in via email. Unfortunately construction on the street also made the site inaccessible by car and noisy. There were no instructions left about the self-cleaning option in the room as stated in the special instructions and there were no cleaning supplies available and we were charged an additional cleaning fee upon checkout. We were also overcharged the stated fee by $50 since a $30 deposit was billed 3 months prior to our stay which was not deducted from the final fee charged at checkout, resulting in the overcharge. Not too impressed with these situations but the room and breakfast were great .

We enjoyed our time here and it was good for the price that we paid. This B&B is less pricy than the other hotels in Old Quebec but for a reason. Our main complains were the bed (uncomfortable spring mattress, meh pillows and smelly comforter) and the communication with the staff could hit or miss. The location is amazing as it is very close to Château Frontenac but it's on a quieter side street. The room was great if only a little small (but it's old Quebec, everything is small). Breakfast was okay nothing too fancy but it did help to have a bit of food before heading out. I would recommend if you're traveling on a budget but still want to stay in old Quebec

Thank you for your review Jess. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, however are a little disappointed by some of the points in your comment. Firstly, the mattress in your room is hotel grade, extra firm, for which we have received compliments on by several other guests. Everyone is different, however and we understand that some people prefer different types of mattresses. It is actually much healthier for your body to sleep on a mattress that provides support. Also, you asked us to change your comforter on your first morning as you were bothered by the smell and we did. You were happy and thanked us. Everything is washed in a high quality washer and we did not smell anything unusual when we changed your comforter. As for breakfast, fresh fruit, quality bread and some protein is what most people eat these days as more and more people are health conscious. We are always around if you needed to ask questions, but we are not always standing at the door. Thanks again and we wish you all the best!

My stay was comfortable. The old heritage vibe is wonderful. The eclectic collection of décor and furniture is odd but easy enough to see past. The location is excellent. On a quiet street but so close to all the beautiful sights. My large disappointment came when they 1) charged a $40 deposit without stating they would and never provided a receipt for this despite my request by phone and email 2) there was a hidden fee of $150 for I don't know what which made the price not worth it 3) they overcharged my credit card. They did not respond to my requests so I had to go to Expedia for action to be taken. They did end up refunding my credit card but not for the full amount. Now my receipt does not match what I paid (I paid more) which is important for me as this was a business expense. I have recommended Expedia remove this property from their listing.

when you first walk in there’s a table with some pamphlets (as well as a parking map) of stuff to do in the area which i thought was really cool! the stairs are wooden and creaky so i took my shoes off to help in disturbing other guests, especially later in the evenings. i stayed in the sun room- it’s quaint and small but cozy! it truly feels old quebec. there’s a smart tv so you can watch netflix or youtube if you wanted during your stay. i didn’t partake in the breakfast, i accidentally slept in both days lol!! i didn’t see the host at all, but check in is rather easy and if you ever need her you can always call. the balcony is nice for getting fresh air, and i found the pillows really comfy :) overall, if you don’t mind that it isn’t the fanciest i think you will enjoy your stay just as i did.

We never got to meet the Lady of the B&B home to welcome us even for a few minutes as she was too busy with family commitments. If you went at the end of the breakfast period there was not enough coffee, or a last slice of ham and no more. The Microwave did not work. I was disappointed to not meet the lady who took my reservation via VISA online as I wanted to speak to her, Otherwise, the tour buses were well organized.

An old heritage building is one thing. It’s character. Updates as simple as bedding pillows and curtains would go a long long way. It’s very 1992 and needs to be refreshed.

HORRENDOUS Experience - not worth it
What can I say except that we should have listened to the other reviews and stayed away. Because of the reviews, we thought it better to visit the property before booking - we did just that and thought for one night, it would do the trick. I put through the booking and while speaking on the phone to the woman who manages the property, an older man from France came by and started speaking to the man that worked there; all of the sudden, the employee picked up the phone and began conversing with his manager in French to indicate that someone else had arrived and wanted to stay 3 nights rather than just one, like us. The manager proceeded to instruct her staff member, in French, that he was to tell me they don't have room for us and then to take the man's reservation - I interrupted them in French and told them I could understand them (I also speak both languages luckily) and they went silent. I hung up the phone with the manager and began to speak to the employee about the matter. Keep in mind, we have viewed the room, used the toilet in it, to check in, AND PAID online - I had the receipt and showed the man working there and he began to yell at me telling us I need to leave and that they aren't going to give us the room at which point I Horrible experience for our weekend away in Quebec and it dragged on for 5 days after as I battled with them to get 100% of our money back.

I was there just for two nights but I couldn’t sleep at all because of ceiling dripping terribly during those rainy nights, & although i told the owner, they didn’t compensate it. I’m sorry but I never recommend that old building to anybody!

Next door there were renovations starting 7am every day, which included drilling into the same wall as that next to our heads in the room. So impossible to sleep or even be in the room from 7am every day. The owner refused to do anything about this and was not at all apologetic. At minimum the room should have been discounted given it was uninhabitable for much of the day, and sleeping in past 7am was impossible. They knew of this and did not care about their tenants.

Bonjour, it's the law in Quebec to start construction from 7 a. m the noise was a normal noise that police said, Thank you for your tolerance and understanding..

The hotel was charming, clear and comfortable. However I think the name is misleading as at least in the states, a B & B means that there is a host and breakfast.
