Best Vacation of my life
If you are looking to see wildlife, this is your place! The layout of the property is wonderful. We explored the rocks just off the beach and found a tidal pool. Love that they compost and only replace towels every other day. Every person we encountered was friendly and helpful. Would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you so much!

Incredible Adventure
This property is AMAZING, the views, birds, monkeys, home...everything was wonderful. We plan to come back and can easily recommend it to anyone. We were greeted by the Caretaker Isaac, he and his wife Anaise were amazing during our stay. Super helpful, available to assist or answer questions as needed. Isaac speaks fluent English and is a great asset. We also had the chef Rafa come in for several meals, he was amazing, made incredible home cooked Costa Rican meal and we can also highly recommend him. Be sure to rent not only a 4x4 vehicle, but something high profile. The road from Puerto Jimenez is bad, however the road that you turn onto to get to the property, well that is horrible. We rented a 4 x 4 vehicle, however it was not a high profile one and we bottomed out several times on the "road". It takes an hour to go 11 miles, be sure to get something high profile! We also wanted to point out a few things that are listed as amenities that the home does not have - there is no toaster and no washer and dryer. You can have the care takers do your laundry for you if needed. We didn't pack enough clothes for our entire stay as we had planned to wash our clothes while there. This was one of the best properties I have ever stayed at, if you are up for adventure, watching monkeys, birds, swimming, surfing, hiking etc, this is the place for you.

Thank you Sheryl for your comments. Sorry for the toaster we are replacing it. The laundry can be provided by our caretaker as if washer or dryer brakes it is very difficult to repair it in Matapslo so we prefer to have the caretakers help our guests with that. And yes the road is in very bad shape , the positve part of that is that it keeps the area free from intense tourism. Really hope to have you back!!!!

Love Matapalo!
We had a wonderful stay. Our host and his wife were so helpful from greeting us on our late arrival to giving us a ride to town the following day so we could get our rental car. The property was beautiful and loved waking up to tropical birds and monkeys every morning. The home was amazing. I would come back again and recommend this listing to others. :)

A wonderful stay
An outstanding location ... peaceful and serene. The house was extremely easy to slip into the flow, with the main area to commune and separate living space all with amazing views where one could have alone time. The staff were very friendly and available if needed but left us to ourselves which was wonderful.

Cabo Matapalo family vacation
Beautiful house, beauty location and great service on all levels. Rooms were cleaned each day which was a pleasant surprise. Isaac and family took great care of us. We traveled early May and it was very, very hot and surprisingly lots of mosquitos. Cannot close off rooms so bug nets over beds are essential and house would benefit from an upgrade to more powerful fans especially in rooms to help when it is so hot.

OUr Wonderful Stay in Marmaris
We have just returned from 15 amazing and fabulous days at this property. Thee owner was incredibly informative and helpful when we booked our stay and prior to our stay. The property is amazing. The location overlooking the Pacific and nestled in the jungle is beyond words. From the time we arrived until our departure we were in heaven. Despite being quite open (no windows) the house and rooms are well protected from wildlife. Although several nights we were entertained with the sounds of monkeys. And mornings were wonderful with the sounds of birds and monkeys. There is more than ample closet space in each room and the bathrooms and showers were great. The caretakers are fantastic—Isaac and Anais live on site and are great with information, suggestions for activities and they keep everything very clean and in good operation. Isaac is always there to take care of any problem. You definitely need a four wheel drive vehicle —this is most important since the Matapalo road leading to the house is incredibly rocky and also the main road (highway 245) is gravel or mud. Be careful on 245 in the rain!! We hired the chef that the owner recommended—Rafa—a young Costa Rican—who prepared and served every one of our meals. All fresh fruits and vegetables and amazing meat and fish from the island. HIs juices are wonderful and everything he made was delicious. We strongly recommend hiring him. It is worth the penny and the joy of not having to shop, cook or clean is great. Be sure to discover the little beach at the property next door (ask Isaac) and don’t forget about the cute tiny swimming pool. Our stay at this property was magical in all respects. We would definitely stay here again.

Great property with great cartakers
Even though the property had a neighbor to one side we felt like we were in a secluded location. Our family loved the open air concept of the main common area. The absence of air conditioning really wasn't an issue especially at night. While we would definitely stay here again we would avoid the dry season and the heat. We took advantage of the chef during our stay for most of our meals and glad we did. There is also a delivery service that will bring groceries in during your stay at a very reasonable rate. You need a 4x4 to get to this location. Martina's is the closest restaurant and is also open air and I would estimate it was about 15 minutes by car. Enjoyed a couple of meals here. This restaurant is the place to be on Friday nights. Also, the "turn off" to the property is not far past Martina's. Once you past Martina's there is a little "bus stop" on the left. Just past that stop, take a left and it is somewhat steep. After the left make an immediate right after about 40-50 meters. Tell the locals you are trying to get to Matapolo area and they will help (this was our experience). We didn't have any issues charging phones, laptops, etc with the solar power. Enjoyed the plunge pool every day. Beaches are close and within walking distance. Wildlife at this property was incredible - toucans, red macaws, 3 kinds of monkeys, etc. If you wanted to cook your meals the kitchen looked well stocked with the necessary accoutrements. Caretakers were knowledgeable in the area and helped us with more than just the property.

Wonderful!
I wish we could have stayed at this property longer! The property did not disappoint as it is well maintained and its surroundings are beautiful. If we weren't busy exploring the area, I most likely would have spent countless hours watching the Ocean and the garden from the comfort of the open-air living room and using the small, but oh how refreshing, pool! We loved the fact that the bedrooms were in separate buildings on the property. I don't think there was a single thing that we did not like about this home. My review would not be complete without mentioning really nice people that were part of our experience. Everybody was really attentive: - Ximena responded promptly and provided answers to my multiple questions during the booking process - Thank you! - the house manager and his staff were at the property to make sure that we had a great experience but didn't intrude on us. The bedrooms were cleaned every day without us even noticing how and when it happened. We had travelled across CR before we got to the property and we had some laundry upon our arrival; Isaac assisted as soon as I mentioned it. Also, one day we forgot to close our car windows and left for the beach and Isaac noticed this and rolled them up - Many thanks! - Rafael, the chef, cooked for us during our stay and we all loved his dishes. He was very quiet when cooking and so clean that if we didn't see him, I could wonder if the meals just dropped from the sky (hahahah). Thank you! Notes - You need 4 WD to get to the property. There are multiple small bridges to cross. During our stay (the beginning of the rainy season) one bridge was closed and we had to drive over a stream/small river. We did not have any issues with our 4 WD vehicle and noticed that even smaller cars also were able to cross. - The nearest store is in Puerto Jimenez about 30-40 minutes by car so if you want to cook for yourself you need to plan ahead. - The beach adjacent to the property is a surfing beach (it is known for it). If you don't surf and just want to swim in the Ocean you need to walk about 15 minutes. The nearest beach with calmer waters is Pan Dulce Beach (rocks and sand). - Tours are organized from PJ so you need to drive there from Cabo Matapalo. - Kali is a local with knowledge of the area - we met him on our hike and really enjoyed the hike and the talk. We educated ourselves about this area and knew what to expect and this was perfect - a mix of adventure and relaxation. Thanks

A vacation adventure
My wife and adult daughter had the pleasure of staying 6 days at Osa Marmaris. The house and setting are gorgeous. The property is powered by solar and the water supply comes from a mountain stream. It’s safe to drink and we did throughout our stay. Because the property is solar powered there is no air conditioning and with the constant ocean breezes it’s not needed. The Matapalo Beach road where the house is located proved to be a great challenge traveling on. Please do not attempt to traverse this road with anything but a 4wheel drive. We rented a sedan and got hung up a couple of times on the numerous boulders that make up the road. The caretakers, Keylor and his wife, were very friendly and helpful and kept the place spic and span. We took advantage of the optional personal chef Rafael. We thoroughly enjoyed his cooking for our entire stay. We had him prepare 2 meals a day for the 3 of us and every meal was superb. Well worth the cost! The property has neighbors on both sides, but you would never know it as the landscaping gives you total privacy. The pool is small, but very refreshing and has comfortable lounge chair with umbrellas to enjoy a midday margarita. The ocean views are amazing. We would wake up to howler monkeys early and look out of our beds to see crashing waves and surfers at daybreak. After renting a 4wheel drive we took in a number of excursions that were reasonably priced including a dolphin/snorkel tour, an eco hike to a waterfall, and a mangrove kayak tour. The wildlife was amazing we saw parrots, toucans, iguanas, raccoons that we thought were lemurs, monkeys(howler, spider, and white faced), sloths, tree snakes, poison dart frogs, hawks, and our friendly agouti that would hang out by the pool with us. There are a couple of restaurants nearby, I would recommend Martina’s. Friendly staff, great food, and a ping pong table. There is a swimming beach that’s about a 15 minute walk from the house that we didn’t get time to visit. Except for the road issues we thoroughly enjoyed the adventures we had at OSA Marmaris.

Perfect Staycation
This is a perfect set up for multiple couples looking to get away. We loved that the bedrooms were apart from the main house. It was fantastic that we had a common area to go to & socialize, but we had our own space when we went to bed. Everything was very comfortable!! Grounds were beautiful, loved waking up every morning watching the sunrise from our bed. Tons of macaws everywhere! Rafael was an amazing cook!! so worth the money. Beach very close - but waves are very very powerful. Only concern was the pool......it was very cloudy & we were not so sure about getting into it. But absolutely loved everything else & would love to come back

We really fell in love with Marmaris, the Property Manager, Keylor, The house cleaner and masseuse, Sianne and our wonderful chef, Rafael. The open spaces and wonderful breakfast nook made for special family meals and card games, the rooms were appointed beautifully. I only wish they had bug nets for all the beds and that when they would clean they would do the dishes that were in the sink. Wonderful Vacation in Exotic Location with Tons of Activities
This house is spectacular and all that we could ask for in a home away from home. The house is RIGHT on the water, and we were lulled to sleep each night with the sound or breaking waves, and then woken to the sound of howler monkeys in the nearby trees. If this sound exotic, it really is, but the house is big, relaxed and informal and perfect for an extended family or two small families. In a week we only scratched the surface on the activities available in the area. We should add that families with children >5-6 years old should not be intimidated by this area or the house. The house has some steps but is easily negotiated, the pool is small and shallow but ideal for a post surfing plunge, and there are several beaches that are very safe (eg Pan Dulce) nearby. Our 10 year old was very happy and we were comfortable with her at all times. Shila was a spectacular chef and Siani did a wonderful job keeping the house clean and tidy during our stay. We would love to go back to Casa Marmaris.

Delightful
Wonderful property on the water. It was as advertised and beautiful. The road from the airport was in good shape. The last mile was a bit rough and I appreciated having 4WD. We had trouble finding the home initially. Perhaps I missed the written directions. We loved the layout of the home and enjoyed having Aurora cook for us. It might be helpful to have a standard shopping list created as we were not sure what exactly we needed to purchase. Once we figured out the groceries, it was a pleasure having meals taken care of by Aurora. Isaac was on site and helpful particularly in procuring fish one night. The house was great to hang out in. I recommend bringing any cards, games you might want as there were not any at the home. Reading lamps in the living room would also be a nice addition. The weather was warm (90) but the nights with a fan were OK. We did not have a lot of bugs. Overall, this was a fantastic place and we would visit again.

A Villa in the Costa Rican Paradise
There is so much to say. First and foremost the property is breathtaking both in terms of the views as well as the wildlife. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. The owner and property manager were very responsive to our inquiries arranging for everything once we reached the villa. We arranged for our own local transport from the Puerto Jiménez Airport. We are a bit food oriented so I will start with that. You will need to purchase all of your own food in Puerto Jiménez at the central market before heading to the villa. There is nowhere to buy food nearby without a pricey taxi ride back into town. We spent over a thousand dollars for food for 7 people for 7 days and it was not enough. Fortunately, the property manager arranged a deep-sea fishing trip which augmented our rations with a bunch of delicious red snapper. The property manager also arranged for a cook to prepare our meals every day at additional cost. We didn't have a rental car and due to the intermittent electricity for the refrigerator and freezer (the villa is entirely solar) I'm not sure I have a solution for food other than making periodic trips back into town. Make sure you get plenty of rice and beans. The frozen chicken was good. Stay away from fresh beef, chicken or pork. The local beach Playa del Dulce is a surfer’s paradise. That said the waves can be large and there are riptides so be careful. The same with the Backwash immediately behind the villa. The property manager arranged a deep-sea fishing trip which was great. I might suggest boarding and offloading from a pier in Puerto Jiménez as there are no piers for safe boarding near the villa. The property manager also arranged a jungle walk in Corcovado National Park. It was a great hike but about 17 km round-trip so make sure you are prepared for an all-day adventure. I would definitely visit this villa again. It's a bit off the beaten path but if you are adventurous it is a trip you will always remember.

Thank you Jini for your review. The solar system is now working a 100% as we aquire new batteries. I always recommend to rent a car in Puerto Jimenez as with a car you can maximize your experience in the area. As for the food, trying fresh fish or shrimps upon availability is also recommended. I hope to see you back in Osamarmaris, as we enjoyed having you at the house.

Homecoming
This was our second trip to Cabo Matapalo and we still were in awe. The open air, off the grid house was the perfect mix of nature and comfort. We were woken up each morning by the sounds of howlers and the sunrise off the Golfo dulce. The agouti in the yard, toucans and macaws overhead, and troupes of spider and capuchin monkeys gave us a window into the raw beauty of the Osa peninsula. The heat does get intense, and it can make nights a little tough, but late night dips in the pool were a quick way to find some reprieve. You have a beautiful view of the ocean from the deck, however access to the beach entails a quick 5 minute walk down the road. Isaac, the house keeper, spoke excellent English and was always attentive to our needs. He helped us arrange mouthwatering dinners comprised of casado (tipico meals) and found us locally caught, fresh off the boat tuna. He was never more than a shout away for any of our needs. Highly recommended, we are always sad to leave this area. Ps- visit Martina’s on Friday night for local crafts, homemade ice cream, and delicious food. And go see Andy down the road for a highly informative and laughter filled tour at Everday Adventures.

Paradise on the Osa
We just spent 5 nights at this beautiful oceanfront home. The open air common space was the most perfect place to relax and enjoy the nature that unfolds in front of you. The compound is perfectly positioned to allow for shade throughout the day. The sunrise is visible from all part s of the property. The furniture is comfortable and there are more than enough places to sit, lay, cook and eat. Monkeys cross through the yard a couple of times a day and scarlet macaws are frequently overhead. The separate sleeping cabins made for private and quiet sleeping. The large overhead fans kept the temperature perfect. This was our 4th stay in Matapalo and this was our favorite house. The location of being next to the best swimming beach (Backwash) made it ideal. I can't wait to return to this heaven on earth!

Great stay at Casa Marmari's! Beautifully landscaped. Isaac and Desiree were fantastic hosts and I would recommend that she cook any fresh fish or chicken for you. Delicious! The only thing that could be improved was that the neighbor's generator was on several nights until 11:00 pm which hindered the peaceful tranquility. Maybe Ximena could speak with the neighbors and come to an agreement on appropriate hours? Thank you for the hikes, surfing and town runs Isaac and Desiree. The seven of us will be back.
