Nice hotel. Gorgeous location.
If one were to change anything about this hotel and because there are new owners, it would be to enlargen the windows and put balconies on each of the rooms in order to enjoy the fantastic views.

Overall an excellent seafront hotel
This is a really pleasant hotel on an island with extraordinary scenery, the staff are really nice. They provide you free breakfast coupon, and the hotel had a shuttle to downtown newport so you don't have to worry about any inconvenience when it comes to transportation. An excellent hotel!

We were there for a wedding so a lot of people hung out in the lobby and bar area the night before to get to meet each other. One of the bartenders was just a big jerk because some people brought a bottle or can down from their room while most people were ordering food and drinks from the bar. No need to come out from behind the bar and insert himself into the families and be a jerk.

Beautiful weekend getaway.
My Fiance and I came back to Newport for the second time and again stayed in the Hyatt Regency. The Hyatt employs a friendly staff and is a perfect romantic getaway for a few days. We love eating at the bar in the hotel and they were very accommodating when we asked for some special wine related things for our room. The hotel is clean, quiet and beautiful which makes it another great part of being in Newport. I know there are other hotels in the area but I think we'll always stay loyal to the Hyatt.

Nice, but hoped for a little more.
The hotel was nice. We had paid for a waterfront room & hoped to look out at the ocean, rather than the town & small amount of water in between. We were given tickets by the desk to tour one of the mansions - really enjoyed and appreciated that.

Walls are paper thin
Besides the hotel lobby and bar area, everything else was disappointing. I was told I had an ocean view, it was more on the line of being a roof view. Rooms were small for the price, but the worst part was how thin the walls were. I could hear my neighbors like they were in my room.

The woman at the front desk was less than friendly upon arrival. The toilet flapper was broken in my room and I had to wait for maintenance to come fix it. The walls were paper thin and I was up for three hours during the night thanks to the loud, possibly drunk "neighbors". I called security and they did come right up, but I could still hear everything since I am a light sleeper.

Disappointing Water View
I paid a premium rate to be guaranteed a Water View. My room had one tiny little window that was broken! The seal between the 2 window panes was broken, so the window was completely fogged leaving me with no view of any kind, I could not even see the outside. Since I had paid for the room in advance through Expedia (the only way I was told to get a water view guaranteed) the Hotel was not taking responsibility for the lack of a water view and not refunding me any portion of the room charge. I will not be staying at the Hyatt Regency again and will have to consider if the convenience of Expedia is worth it, if the Hotel relinquishes its responsibility because you pay Expedia and not the Hotel directly.

Very disappointing hotel room and service
I booked a "deluxe" room at this hotel as it was our first time visiting Newport and wanted a decent hotel experience. However, the "deluxe" room was at the far end of the hotel in what looks like an old wing of the hotel and looks out over a parking lot. The room looked like something out of the early 1980's and was very tired and worn in appearance. The window was very small so almost no light came into the room. the room looked more like a Motel 6 room in appearance, certainly not a "deluxe" room at over $450 per night. furthermore, the hotel shuttle which was supposed to run every 30 minutes to the town center never showed up for departure and the whole crowd of people waiting were forced to either get cabs or walk into town. Same experience on way back....shuttle never showed for trip back to hotel. No explanation and no apologies. Told the front desk people about the room and the shuttle but never received any sort of proper remedy. I loved Newport and will definitely return but absolutely NOT to this hotel.

Just an overnight, on a trip through New England. Even though the hotel did not seem very full, the desk clerk tried giving us a ground floor room, but my sharp companion would not tolerate that. The new rooms both had full sweeping harbor views and we enjoyed the small patio with a table and 2 chairs. Service gets a lesser grade because the bell hop was eager to help us to our room on the way in, but we wound up grabbing a cart and hauling our own luggage to the car despite letting the valet know we would like some help. As we finished loading the car, a staff member showed up "to help"...but wasn't needed. Oh well, 5 bucks back in my pocket. Coffee maker is provided in the room, but if you want a morning cup without the fuss, as you might find in many hotel lobbies, you must pay...as you must pay for everything...very few amenities are comped.

My son is at URI and Newport is a great spot to stay when visiting! Hyatt is perfectly located in Newport with a shuttle to get you around town.

Brown water in room. Could not use the tub. Room requested was not available and we were assigned to a room in the rear of the hotel which required walking a flight of steps to access. Food in the bar area was nearly inedible .

Great hotel, great staff. Fabulous outdoor area with pool and chairs facing the bay. Probably the best buffet breakfast we have had! Make sure it's part of your room rate, otherwise it's $20.

Worth the money but add in your fees.
Family vacation. We all loved the hotel. Resort fees and taxes bump up this room rate should Be included online when you book. Would Still have booked it as its a great hotel But the fees should not be a surprise. Outdoor area is great breakfast is very good and the staff are lovely.

Awful, ridiculously overpriced.
We booked a room for 5 people and when we arrived they gave us a room with two double beds and absolutely no room for a roll away. The hotel reminded me of a low budget, right off the freeway no-tell motel. We paid over $1500 for two nights at this place thinking it would be luxurious. Severely disappointed does not even come close to covering how awful this place was. We could have spent less money and stayed in one of the mansions in complete and total opulent luxury on the cliff walk. The staff was rude, most of them barely spoke English and communication was an issue. Service at the restaurant was amateurish, extremely slow and uncaring. Everything about this place was horrible except the location, which is beautiful, but does not even come close to making up for everything else. Don't waste your money here, you can get extremely upgraded accommodations just a few miles from this dump for the what you would spend here. Unless you can get a room for around $140 a night don't even bother.

Upon arriving (people everywhere, very crowded, cars having trouble finding parking, long line at check in), I was told at 330 that my room for 2 pm check in was not ready. With three kids, I had no where to go (nor our stuff nor anywhere to change to use the pool) that, Erica, the check in person eventually agreed to give us another room to use (double beds). She initially said they didn't have any rooms but that if there was one, she wouldn't be able to guarantee my original room (queen beds), and that she had no idea when my room would be ready. she did finally find one but it took half an hour to figure this out. It seemed her answer to everything was no, despite my calling in advance for 2 pm check in and my reservation for a room with queen beds. We used the pool and the room with double beds to get ready for an early dinner reservation and our room was finally ready at 530. Far cry from the 2 pm reservation. I was told our luggage would be moved by the time we got back from dinner. It wasn't. We arrived back at the hotel at 8 pm and our luggage, nor roll away I had reserved and asked for were nowhere to be seen. They both arrived 20 min later. The bell person was apologetic and helpful. From there, we had great experiences With the valets and bell people. We had breakfast in the hotel and the waitress was super. The grounds are pretty despite the hotel having a slightly outdated feel. The lighthouse is a great spot to see the sunset.

It was a bit over priced for the room and the water view (which included 50% view of the parking lot). While the staff was friendly they seemed overburdened and hence a bit slow. I will say the bell service was quick and on point. Overall thought it was a great clean place to get away.

Outdoor pool in a nice setting
Arrived on Sunday room not ready until 5pm. Was there for 4 nights. Did not clean the room except on the first night. No clean towels. Had to go find housekeeping and bring them my dirty towels and garbage. So many guests complaining at the front desk during our stay.

Pleasant staff, couldn't check in early, so went to pool. Changing rooms were unpleasant, hot and small. Room was fine. Double beds in our room instead of Queen size. Clean, but dated.
