Find hotels in Prestersee from £33

The best area to stay in Prestersee is the Old Town, known locally as Altstadt, which offers a central and convenient base for exploring.

The Altstadt is the historical heart of Prestersee, characterised by its cobbled streets, mediaeval architecture, and the impressive Prestersee Cathedral. The main square, Marktplatz, is a focal point, surrounded by historic buildings and cafes. Many of the city's key attractions are within easy walking distance, making it very convenient for sightseeing.

Couples often find the Altstadt particularly appealing. The area is filled with charming restaurants and intimate wine bars, superb for evening strolls and relaxed dinners. You'll find boutique shops and art galleries tucked away in its narrow lanes, offering a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

For those looking for a slightly quieter experience while still being central, the area around the Hofgarten, just west of the Altstadt, is an excellent choice. This neighbourhood borders the city's main park, offering green spaces and a more residential feel. It's still a short walk to the Altstadt's attractions but provides a more tranquil setting.

The best time to go to Prestersee is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the natural beauty of the region is at its peak.

During late spring, the landscape around Prestersee bursts into life with lush greenery and blooming wildflowers. Temperatures are mild, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and exploring the charming villages nearby. The longer daylight hours also mean more time to enjoy the scenic views of the lake and surrounding forests. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a romantic getaway with opportunities for leisurely strolls and boat trips on the lake.

Early autumn offers a different kind of beauty, with the deciduous trees transforming into a stunning palette of reds, oranges, and golds. The air is crisp, and the crowds are generally thinner than in the summer months. This is an excellent time for those who appreciate photography or simply want to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Families might find this period appealing for exploring the local trails and enjoying outdoor picnics without the heat of summer.

While summer (July and August) is also popular, it can be busier and warmer. Winter (November to April) brings colder temperatures and potential snow, which can be beautiful but limits some outdoor activities.
