Portsmouth's prime destination for food lovers is an attractive marina full of restaurants and cafés of every variety, making it ideal for a meal out.

In Portsmouth's chic dining quarter, Port Solent, elegant waterfront buildings house top-quality restaurants of every kind and hundreds of yachts bob in the calm waters. Visit for more than an evening and you'll see that food isn’t the only attraction in this stylish location, with specialist shops dotted throughout the marina. A sleek cinema and a health and fitness club help make this one of the city’s most desirable locations.

Sit down for a romantic meal for two at one of the port's many picturesque restaurants. Choose from Italian, Mexican, Indian and a wide variety of national cuisines to suit all tastes and budgets. Bring the whole family along for a relaxed and special meal that will keep the children happy. Sample lobster and other fresh seafood caught just that day and finish off your meal with dessert from Port Solent’s ice-cream parlor.

Many of Port Solent's restaurants are famous for their atmosphere. Look for Dean's Diner, which recreates a classic ‘60s American diner, complete with a jukebox and big burgers. The Watermark offers dancing and DJs with your harborside dinner.

Before you fill up on fantastic food, explore the specialist and local shops around the area. Try on shoes or search for quality sports equipment and unique maritime merchandise. Browse the Trading Post to find wares from independent businesses or stop in the tea rooms for a hot drink and pastry. Nearby, find a traditional barber and a pet accessory shop that doubles as a dog café.

Port Solent is located north of the city centre. From Portsmouth train station, it’s just a short drive. Use the available free parking. Perhaps the best way to arrive, however, is by boat if you're lucky enough to be on a yacht, sail into the marina for an unforgettable evening of eating and drinking.
