Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Polje?
For most visitors, the best area to stay in Polje is the central part of the village, particularly around the main road, Cesta JLA.

This area offers a convenient base for exploring Polje and the wider Bohinj region. You'll find a selection of guesthouses and apartments, often with lovely views of the surrounding mountains and meadows. The main road connects Polje directly to Lake Bohinj and the nearby town of Bohinjska Bistrica, making it easy to access local amenities and attractions.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will appreciate Polje's quiet surroundings. It's an excellent spot for enjoying nature, with numerous walking and cycling paths directly accessible from the village. You're also just a short drive from the stunning Lake Bohinj, great for lakeside strolls or boat trips.

Families will find Polje particularly appealing for its relaxed atmosphere and proximity to outdoor activities.
When is the best time to go to Polje?
The best time to go to Polje, Slovenia, is generally during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October).

During these months, the weather is pleasantly mild, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region. You'll avoid the peak summer crowds and the higher temperatures, yet still enjoy plenty of sunshine for outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and exploring the Julian Alps. The landscapes are particularly beautiful in May and June with blooming wildflowers, and in September and October with the rich colours of autumn foliage.

For those planning an active holiday, these periods offer comfortable conditions for longer hikes in Triglav National Park or along the shores of Lake Bohinj. The cooler air makes strenuous activities more enjoyable, and the trails are less busy than in mid-summer. It's a great time for couples or solo travellers who appreciate the outdoors and quieter experiences.

If your primary interest is water sports on Lake Bohinj, such as swimming or kayaking, then July and August offer the warmest water temperatures, though you should expect more visitors during this peak summer season.
