Pictures don't do the property justice. Incredible amount of space for the price. Clean, country views, well detailed and appointed rooms. The highlight of the North Island segment of our trip.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. This is a beautifully set up property with everything you need for a relaxing break away from it all. Amanda was great to communicate with and very helpful. Highly recommend this as a wonderful place to visit.
Took a trip up the Forgotten World Highway and had the pleasure of staying at Pohokura for the night. A very comfortable stay, the cottage had everything we needed; comfy beds, big sofa, fire place with plenty of logs, generous bathroom, Wi-Fi and both Marmite and Vegemite available for breakfast. Our host Amanda couldn’t have been more helpful and her advice on the local roads saved us from being stuck in traffic for hours.
A thoroughly great stay, our interest in the area has been wetted and we will be back.
The perfect accommodation in the most magical setting.
We should have stayed longer! The house was extremely well appointed, from the well stocked kitchen and pantry, to the beautifully appointed bedrooms, each worthy of a magazine cover, and as for the newly renovated bathroom, amazing. Host Amanda was the best host you could hope for. Brilliant! Dreturning asap
A BnB in the country that is better than any BnB in any city
From walking into the Villa, we felt home. A fire was heating the whole house, and everything was just absolutely perfect. All amenities have been provided, fully equipped kitchen with breakfast and basics to cook your own meals. This is really a true gem in the heart of Taranaki and we will surely be back. Thank you, Amanda, for your hospitality and taking so much pride and care to make our stay memorable.
Very highly recommended!!
Mill Hill is truely sereal place to visit. From the rolling hills, the quaint wee river, self-shading sheep that looked adoringly strange with suckling lamb, chucks the provided fresh eggs, the grumpy bull, bird-song and of course Kitten who hosted us with love and respect, What not to love! And Amanda’s hospitality, such a treat. It is our new home away from home, or do we just move in permanently? Now that we have our Whangamōmona republic passports.🤗🙏
The Mill House is such a wonderful place to stay - so clean, so welcoming, and every little detail has been thought about to make you comfortable and at home… a Nespresso coffee machine, deep bath with candles provided, fluffy robes, fresh flowers in every room, helpful basics in the fridge. And every room was lovely. We hoped it would be beautiful from the photos, but it exceeded our expectations! We had our dogs with us and they loved running around the big lawn and we enjoyed the pretty garden. We picked this place mainly because we could bring our dogs, but would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to really get away from it all! It’s incredibly peaceful despite being so close to the highway. The host Amanda was also really helpful and easy and prompt to deal with. Much appreciated and we look forward to staying here again!
What an amazing home and property. Perfect for a couple or group of friends or family.
Kitten is the perfect host allowing you to share her wonderful home.
Amanda has left nothing to chance and is the perfect host.
Just put all previous positive comments into one statement and that’s what this place is. Thank you soo much for letting us experience this home away from home.
Absolutely incredible, spacious, peaceful home with beautiful decor.
We loved our stay here. Amanda & Kitten made us feel at home straight away. We spent the afternoon basking in the sunshine on the deck surveying the surrounding hills. The only disappointment was we weren't staying another night!
Well first of all there was nothing to dislike.
Mill cottage is a very quiet place wonderful for a few days away from town. A true rural environment with everything that you wish for in the way of provisions. The resident cat called kitten is very friendly. We took our dog with us and eventually two of them got on well together!
Thanks to the host Amanda this was a wonderful stay.
The property is absolutely beautiful the house is well designed with thoughtful little touches from the owner, Amanda was very kind and hospitable and made the trip very enjoyable. Quite far away from town so make sure you have everything you need before travelling to the property. Overall very happy with our stay Thankyou Amanda ☺️
Amanda is a great host, very welcoming and attentive, making sure every detail was taken care of. Lovely home, with lots of thoughtful touches and all the necessities one could ask for. Not too far from the highway - but no traffic noise and a very peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Big fireplace that kept the home warm, and of course Kitten's company was a bonus.
I stayed here two nights near the end of a three week trip in February. Amanda had opened everything up for my arrival, and the home was clean, comfortable and spacious. As I was a bit tired of traveling, it was nice to just relax here. Other than an occasional car on the Worlds Forgotten Highway, mostly all you hear outside are birds and animals grazing. I would definitely stay here again, and I already miss the cat.
We were looking for somewhere to disconnect, rest and relax, we couldn’t found have a better place to do this. Mill House is in such a lovely spot.
Amanda is a brilliant host, so friendly and helpful. She even offered to loan me her hiking boots.
Kitten is friendly and cuddly.
We enjoyed the McClugguge tunnel walk, lazy sunny afternoons on the veranda and stayed warm on cold nights in front of the cozy fire.
Who could ask for more.
Thanks Amanda and of course Kitten-the Owner-for an excellent stay. We loved your beautifully equipped and furnished house and all the special touches. Never experienced quite so many things - even makeup remover pads.
This would be the perfect venue for a small family wedding party. Just gorgeous. Thanks for a great relaxing time.
Absolutely wonderful. We got to name one of the newborn lambs, pat them and feed the sheep, chickens and snuggly cat. Games and toys suitable for all ages. Gorgeous bath and bath bombs. Amanda was super helpful. Our friends are already keen to visit!
We arrived to a lit fire, a warm cat, fresh bread and (home grown) eggs, and pretty much all we needed apart from milk and groceries for main meals. Place was super-clean, is literally the best-equipped house we’ve ever encountered. Views from the front windows are excellent; the bathroom is a modern delight, washing machine sits outside (like they used to).
Excellent WiFi, simultaneously, no mobile phone coverage at the house itself.
Hostess Amanda was charming and helpful. She came and checked up on us as soon as she could after we arrived. It’s on a genuine working, well-managed farm stud. (We got to name a calf!) Views from almost all windows are great; one only view of the dreadful forestry of ‘the neighbours’.
Its strength and weakness are the same thing: ‘remoteness’. Access from the north and east via the Forgotten World Highway involves corner after corner and a mix of tar and gravel – travel distances aren’t huge but the travel times are long. It’s easier approaching from the South and West, but increasingly winding. A half-day trip to Tangarakau Gorge, Joshua Morgan’s Grave, and the Moki Tunnel – well worth it.
Nights are the quietest ever. A distant owl is all we heard.
Nowhere near as expensive as it could be.
Recommended!
A comfy, good-handling car is a must.
The resident cat is a characterful, affectionate, self-appointed co-host.
We arrived to the cosy warm house with a welcoming fire. The villa was well presented with delightful finishing touches. We particularly enjoyed our hike to the tunnels and bush areas on the farm. Amanda and Aaron were lovely hosts. We highly recommend the experience at this charming villa in a beautiful setting.
We would love to return.
