Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Planadas?
The best area to stay in Planadas is within the town centre itself, particularly around the Parque Principal.

This area is the heart of Planadas, where most of the town's amenities and local life are found. You'll find the main square, the church, and a concentration of local shops and eateries here. The streets are generally easy to navigate on foot, and it provides a good base for exploring the surrounding coffee region.

For couples looking for an authentic and convenient experience, staying near the Parque Principal is ideal. You'll be within easy walking distance of local restaurants serving traditional Colombian cuisine and can easily arrange tours to nearby coffee farms directly from the town. It offers a genuine glimpse into the daily life of a Colombian coffee-producing town.

Solo travellers will also find the town centre to be the most practical option. It's where you'll find the most readily available accommodation and local transport connections.
When is the best time to go to Planadas?
The best time to visit Planadas is during the dry season, which typically runs from December to March and July to August.

During these months, you'll experience more sunshine and less rain, making it ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and outdoor activities like hiking and visiting coffee farms. The lower humidity also makes for more comfortable days. This period is particularly good for those planning to spend significant time outdoors, as the trails and roads are generally in better condition.

For travellers interested in the coffee harvesting process, the main harvest season in Planadas usually occurs between April and June, with a smaller "mitaca" harvest in October and November. Visiting during these times allows you to see the coffee production firsthand, from bean to cup, and potentially participate in farm tours.
