From walking into the pub we were welcomed like we were known to the staff. Everyone said hello. We had a lovely walk around the town. It is super popular whatever time of day you call in. The locals are always popping in. The evenings are popular with people wanting to dine. ##### Sarah Stayed 1 night in May 2024 ### 6/10 Okay #### KM 16 Mar 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, room comfort #### No frills, clean basic pub accommodation Have stayed here b4, about 6 years ago. Nothing seems to have changed in that time. None, if any, up grades, especially in the bathroom, which was one we had last time. That said, it was warm, clean and served my purpose. The towels were large, thick and in new condition. (Not always the case in every place) ##### KM Stayed 1 night in Mar 2025 ### 6/10 Okay #### NIGEL 22 Sept 2024 Liked: Property conditions & facilities Disliked: Staff & service There were problems with service at supper time. Otherwise very friendly. ##### NIGEL Stayed 1 night in Sep 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Pauline 9 Apr 2024 Liked: Staff & service, amenities The Boot and Shoe is a typical country pub . Full of character . We stayed for one night. The room was basic but comfortable. Shower was good . It was very quiet from around 10pm so we had a good sleep. All the staff were cheerful , friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. We had the evening meal which was delicious . I had the pork belly from the specials board , Breakfast was very good too. We had the full English . ##### Pauline Stayed 1 night in Apr 2024 ### 8/10 Good #### GUY 22 Sept 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities The staff at the Boot and Shoe were lovely - they were friendly and helpful during our stay. The cooked breakfast was excellent. We had booked a table for dinner but unfortunately the table we’d been allocated wasn’t great so we dined elsewhere. The staff were really apologetic and gave us a complimentary round of drinks to make up for this. The room itself was fine. The bed was ok and the room was clean. It felt a bit tired though and needed a bit of updating. A good stay overall, especially thanks to the team at The Boot and Shoe. ##### GUY Stayed 1 night in Sep 2024 ### 6/10 Okay #### Andy 18 Aug 2024 Liked: Staff & service Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities It is an old historic property with bags of character. Having said that, the seats in the dining area were torn and in a poor condition. Simple things like no bedside cupboard on one side of bed. No socket near the mirror and nowhere to place toiletries in the bathroom. The staff were very helpful and friendly. ##### Andy Stayed 1 night in Aug 2024 ### 6/10 Okay #### Joanne 1 Dec 2024 Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities Friendly service, good food, nice bedding and towels. Towels changed and bed made, bins emptied which was nice. HOWEVER Terrible bed, worst I have ever tried to sleep in. Rooms very dated like 1960s and very dark, lovely hair dryer but no socket any where near a mirror. Kettle etc on a dark cubby with no light. Rooms directly above the main bar with no sound proofing. Kitchen smell very strong on bedroom, fat bur ing made my eyes smart kitchen yards away with from bedroom, no door, and little extraction, cigarette smoke coming into bedroom from customers smoking outside pub front door. Booked table in restaurant for a meal, was instead seated in the bar as a single elderly lady not the best place to be seated on a Saturday night. All in all apart from food very disappointing stay. ##### Joanne Stayed 1 night in Nov 2024 ### 8/10 Good #### Graham 27 Dec 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities Quirky, but a typical old Inn. Nice welcome, room spacious and nice large bed (room 4). Strange to find only one coffee cup, and only one sachet of shower gel. Wishing of which, it's only a combined bath tap and shower head. And due to the bath position/ceiling profile, there was no possibility to stand up for a shower. Be aware that the wall between the bathroom and next doors bathroom must be exceptionally thin. Noise and discussions were very clear... and especially a young child telling her mother that she had poo'd in the bath! Enjoyed the evening meal - chicken korma and the beef lasagne. Generous portions and tasty. Then breakfast. Not as good as expected. The lack of chef was explained several times, and my wife's request for poached egg wasn't met with enthusiasm, so she had the standard full English. I must add though that she could have had the poached egg, but "it would be 10 minutes". After about 15 minutes our full English breakfasts arrived! Very little phone signal (EE) but there is free WiFi. Don't take this to be a bad review. The location alone is fantastic, and this seems a well loved pub - by both locals and visitors. Would we return? Possibly. We have stopped elsewhere and gone out of our way to return. This one is more of a "maybe", depending on the circumstances and time of year. ##### Graham Stayed 1 night in Dec 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### robert 11 Oct 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities Very good hearty breakfest,, excellent ##### robert Stayed 1 night in Sep 2025 ### 8/10 Good #### Tina 8 Jun 2025 Disliked: Cleanliness Breakfast was nice ##### Tina Stayed 1 night in Jun 2025 ### 6/10 Okay #### Steve 13 May 2025 Liked: Staff & service The room was very basic but it was clean. ##### Steve Stayed 1 night in May 2025 ## Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > [The Royal at Dockray](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Penrith-Hotels-The-Royal-At-Dockray.h2252929.Hotel-Information) > > [The Ullswater Inn- The Inn Collection Group](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Penrith-Hotels-Glenridding-Hotel.h23223697.Hotel-Information) > > [Delta Hotels by Marriott Warwick](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Warwick-Hotels-M40-J15-Warwick-Hotel.h10444.Hotel-Information) > > [The Black Swan Inn](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Penrith-Hotels-The-Black-Swan-Inn.h11899970.Hotel-Information) > > [Urban Beach Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bournemouth-Hotels-Urban-Beach-Hotel.h2814369.Hotel-Information) > > [Ox Hotel Manchester](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Manchester-Hotels-Milton-Manchester-Hotel.h18787802.Hotel-Information) > > [Cambridge Belfry Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cambridge-Hotels-Cambridge-Belfry.h1103020.Hotel-Information) > > [Cheltenham Chase Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Delta-By-Marriott-Cheltenham-Chase-Hotel.h9657.Hotel-Information) > > [Etrop Grange Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Manchester-Hotels-Etrop-Grange.h49116.Hotel-Information) > > [Pine Lake Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Carnforth-Hotels-Pine-Lake-Resort.h1928661.Hotel-Information) > > [High Beckside - Traditional Lakeland Cottage near Ullswater.
