Paulhac-en-Margeride Holidays from £235

This is a rather spare and utilitarian place somewhat off of the main section of town. It’s fine if you are used to walking as it is about 4 blocks from the main area of town where people stroll a main walkway and plaza. The property has the basics; fridge, microwave, cooktop and TV. It is not upscale in any way but is serviceable. Didn’t do the breakfast but looked at it and it looked good. It has A/C but it is anemic and we struggled a bit to get the place cool enough.

Easy check in. Close walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Courteous and helpful staff.

They tried so hard to make this a 4+ star hotel but it just doesn't manage it. The breakfast isn't worth the 20 euros that it costs. The bed was so hard that I had to take ibuprofen to deal with the hip pain after the night and the mildew in the room was bad. The whole family was coughing or sniffling after spending 5 nights there. We were VIP+ and had one of the 2 bedroom suites. We're in room #1. The mosquitoes in the private backyard were so bad that we had a hard time using the only table that seated all 6 of us.

This stay is a no brainer for visitors who are here to tour the village for a few days. The hotel is a five minute walk from the train station and another five minutes of walking leads through the village to the Roman ruins. This hotel has high quality linens and tastefully designed rooms. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The dining options are great with many light bites, hand made which is especially welcome when you’re hungry off the train.
