"Idlers Rest-a peaceful Jamaican hotel"
The hotel really looks like the pictures posted. The staff are kind and welcoming, happy to share their island and knowledge with you. The water is calm and warm-no big rocks and we experienced little plant life. The beach was raked every morning. The food was delicious, and they altered their regular eggs for our son. The kitchen staff quickly learned our preferences. Also, breakfast on the Caribbean every morning!! The manager came looking for us when we got caught in a rain storm one evening! This is not an American hotel, so if you are looking for that, you would be disappointed. However, if you want to experience rural Jamaican life, this is the place. Wifi is not available in the rooms and it is spotty, but I had a stunning patio to email friends from. Towels are thin but clean. Beds are comfortable and the room was clean. The beach would benefit from lounge chairs, but they provided beach towels. Not many right angles in this hotel and it is a bit rough, by North American standards, but it is charming. It is very quiet, we were the only guests for the first 2 nights. It is in the middle of the country, you will need a car or a driver. The hotel arranged a great driver, David-highly recommend him. He stopped in the Middle Quarters for Pepper Shrimp, fish from a road side stand on the way to Negril, fresh coconut on the way to YS Falls, and many jerk places. We never would have stopped at these places on our own. If you want to visit a quiet, non-aggressive Jamaica.
