The Palace of Arts (Palácio das Artes) is an arts and entertainment venue in Belo Horizonte. It is the largest events centre in the state of Minas Gerais. The Palace of Arts is part of the Fundação Clóvis Salgado cultural institution. Enjoy classical music and opera performances, dance shows, movie screenings and travelling art expositions. Within the Oscar Niemeyer-designed complex is a series of concert halls, exhibition spaces, galleries and theatres. Among them is the Grande Teatro do Palácio das Artes. It has welcomed productions of *Carmen*, *La Bohème* and *Madame Butterfly* to its stage in addition to performances by B.B. King, Mercedes Sosa and Miles Davis. The Grande Galeria Alberto da Veiga Guignard is dedicated to showcasing visual arts by national and international artists. It is one of four spaces devoted to visual arts. Watch mainstream and independent movies at the Cine Humberto Mauro. Contemporary and experimental theatre productions take place in the intimate João Ceschatti Theatre. Don’t miss the activities of the biannual FIT-BH International Festival of Stage and Street Theatre of Belo Horizonte. The complex is also the headquarters of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra and Coral Lírico de Minas Gerais choir. The complex is located in Américo Renné Giannetti Municipal Park, which is set at the eastern edge of the Centro neighbourhood. Get here by taking the metro to Central Station and then walk for about 20 minutes. Street parking is possible around the park, but it can often be difficult to find a space. Dozens of public bus routes stop at the park. Events take place year round at the Palace of Arts. Visit the venue’s official website for an up-to-date schedule. You can purchase tickets at two on-site box offices, which are open daily.
