Do this was our first experience at a full service Ryokan and Onsen. The size of our room was huge and we loved the bathroom as it felt like being in a spa. We really enjoyed the traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. There were so many foods that were new to us. We got the Omni beef dinner which was extra and the meat was fabulous! Definitely worth trying. So the only stress was arrival at the train station. There’s a public phone that you can use to call for pick for foreigners but it’s so tiny and difficult to find. It’s literally tied to a string 5 meters from the exit of the tolling station as you arrive.

The staff were wonderful during our 2 night stay at this ryokan. They made us feel so welcome even with a language barrier and just provided us whatever we needed. The food was amazing and the onsen facilities were top notch, definitely the highlight of our Japan trip. They also provide a free shuttle service to pick you up from the nearest train station. There’s even a convenient hotel phone at the station to use.

Amazing experience. So fun to take pic’s of the family in traditional dress. I personally loved each of the Onsens. Unfortunately the dinner included a lot of fish - we are not big fish eaters.

It’s so nice here the staff are extremely attentive and it really feels like being a feudal aristocrat for a day, with dinner and breakfast as multi course meals in private rooms and staff coming to set up futons for sleeping while the guests are at dinner. Cannot recommend it enough! the surrounding area is charming in a small-town kinda way, but there’s not much to do outside the ryokan. I don’t recommend staying more than one or two nights unless you have a car to take you out to things to do in the area

I loved the various onsen you could try out (especially the outdoor ones)! I also opted to have my own wooden tub that dispensed hot spring water—that was really nice too. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the kaiseki dinner was great to try. I highly recommend this place if you want to have an onsen day!

Highly recommended
Free shuttle bus from JR station which takes 5 minutes. Very clean and good condition. The hotspring water is very nice. Highly recommended

Executive Floor with VIP lounge
With the additional VIP lounge and several special onsens , Yumotoken makes it the most wonderful wonderful hotel around Lake Biwa.

Great Stay at Otsu
The staff were great in their service, from checking in to checking out. We initially booked a room with an outdoor onsen bath tub but didn’t realized that the shower facilities were also outdoor. Due to winter, our young toddler was unable to shower outdoor and it was inconvenient for us to bring him to the public bath. We expressed our concern and the staff was very helpful and immediately helped us to find an alternative room with an indoor bath tub and shower. We were moved to a higher floor room which was great as it offered a 180 degree view of the lake during the day. Very appreciative of the kind gesture of their staff. Food were great too. We enjoyed the kaiseki dinner, the beef was excellent. Would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who is coming to Otsu.

Service was excellent, will be prefect if restaurant open earlier. I brought young children so I didn’t book the dinner with the hotel as I’m afraid the child don eat the food provided. Restaurant only open at 8.30pm so bring some snacks for fussy child like mine

AH-Mazing!!
Stayed only one night but wished for more!! The onsens at Yumotokan are beautiful and the staff is extremely attentive and nice. Shout out to Nuri, who took care of us for dinner and breakfast. She was very sweet and made us feel super welcome. The food was very tasty and everything is locally sourced. Can't wait to go back!

The hotel, food, and staff were fantastic. My only gripe was that the hotel felt a bit like a maze at times. Which was kind of entertaining in its own way.

I stayed at Karoi room. The dinner was awesome.. I’ve stayed at many half board onsen ryokans with kaiseki dinner. This one is absolutely the best! It even included a molecular gastronomy dish on our menu. Overall great service, clean room and nice private outdoor bath with free drinks and snacks in the room. Wonderful experience!

It was relaxing stay..., staff, service, onsen were really good We had bingo night while we were there (not sure if it is a nightly affair or just weekend but it was fun) The hotel is a little out of the way but the shuttle helps

The service was amazing! We called the hotel for the shuttle bus and once we arrived. They have everything ready for us to check in. The Karoi experience is amazing! The food was so nice! Onsen was amazing! Thanks for giving us such an amazing onsen experience!

Japanese Onsen Slow Lifestyle
Room was japanese style, sleep on the tatami beds which we are not used to. Love the bathroom which was pump with Hot Spring pH9 water. Great place if you are into Onsen. This is located in a village with nothing but hotels with Onsens. There is not even much choice for food around if you are not buying a room with food package. Only store is the Family Mart 5 minutes walk away. Best if you do self drive from Kyoto or Osaka, then you have the chance to really tour around Lake Biwa and the sights of Otsu. Otherwise, just stay in the hotel and room en enjoy your Onsen and Japanese slow life.

A bit pricy for what you get.
The open air bath area is not as nice as in picture. There was a bug in the room when we ready to sleep on the tatami. Spa is not as good as we thought. However amenities are sufficient.

This is more of a modern ryokan than a traditional one. 5 star hotel service alll the way from pick up from the station, to check out including shuttle bus back to the station. Food was excellent and creative also served in the most luxurious way; though drinks are not included ( you need to pay extra) .They provided very nice snacks on check in. It is much better in terms of value for money as we paid more for the ryokan in Kyoto and that was 4 star. Will come again if in the area.

There are few baths to try including the one with the view of Lake Biwako. Rooms with own outside baths are great. Dinner and breakfast are excellent. Some of the items of the dinner and breakfast are sold at the souvenior shop.

- food is awesome - service top notch - room is spacious with good amenities - hot springs / public baths are amazing - pvt hot springs can be booked for a reasonable price - there are rooms that come with private hot spring (tub) - good selection of drinks at the executive lounge - hotel has its own karaoke and arcade

Great service at front desk.Staff was very polite and friendly. Private onsen was great. Wish it had a temperature controller. Food was outstanding as well as the service at dinning room. Friendly and welcoming staff. Room was good but I expected s better view from the room. Also i requested a non-smoking room, I could smell cigarettes inside the room.pickup and drop off service from the JR station is really helpful and on-time.
