The best area to stay in Ortoá is the historic centre, particularly around the Praza do Obradoiro, for its central location and access to the city's main attractions. This neighbourhood is the heart of Ortoá, dominated by the magnificent Cathedral of Ortoá. It's a pedestrian-friendly area with narrow, winding streets, historic buildings, and a wide selection of traditional Galician restaurants and artisan shops. You'll find many of the city's most important landmarks within a short walk, including the Mercado de Abastos and the Hostal dos Reis Católicos.Couples often find this area ideal for a romantic and culturally rich trip. Staying here means you're steps away from the grandeur of the Cathedral and can enjoy leisurely strolls through ancient streets, discovering hidden plazas and intimate dining spots. The convenience of being in the historic centre means less time travelling and more time enjoying the city's unique charm. For travellers who appreciate a slightly more relaxed pace but still want excellent access to the historic centre, the area just east of the Cathedral, around Praza de Cervantes, is an excellent option. This part of the city offers a good balance of being close to the main sights while often providing a somewhat quieter setting.

The best time to visit Ortoá depends on your preferences, but for most travellers, the spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) offer the most pleasant experience.During these shoulder seasons, the weather is typically mild and sunny, superb for exploring the coastal paths and charming villages without the intense heat or crowds of the peak summer months. You'll find that many of the local restaurants and shops are open, and you can enjoy the natural beauty of the region at a more relaxed pace. This is ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway or solo travellers seeking a peaceful escape. If you're particularly interested in beach activities and don't mind warmer temperatures and more people, the summer months of July and August are also excellent. The sea is warmest then, and there are many local festivals and events taking place. However, accommodation prices can be higher, and popular spots will be busier. For those who appreciate dramatic landscapes and don't mind cooler, potentially wetter weather, the winter months (November to March) can be quite beautiful. This is a quieter time, and you'll often find excellent value on accommodation.
