Constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, designed by architect Zygmunt Gorgolewski, the Grand Theatre in Lviv has been compared to the Paris and Vienna opera houses. Many European theaters can boast an extraordinary construction history, but Lviv’s opera house is unique in that it is built on top of a river. The architect proposed the radical and intriguing idea of burying the small river beneath the opera. His plans also included the use of a concrete foundation, a first for Europe. With optimistic trepidation, the city planners agreed and the Opera House was completed in 1900.

"Clean room, staff was professional, never said a word about a breakfast that I can recall though. Our room was on the top floor, and five floors without a lift is a lot of stairs. Also, not where you want to be at 4:30am when the air raid alarm goes off. It's a fine place, but The bed wasn't comfortable, and being on the top floor wasn't ideal. "

"A very nice hotel right next to the Market Square. Breakfast was delicious, the tea was excellent, and the service was great. There is a small beauty studio on the top floor. I had an amazing massage there. Total relaxation and the perfect way to recover after a long trip. Highly recommended."
