About this property
Restored barn in charming Lyme with studio apartment.
Unwind in Lyme at this terrific studio in a renovated barn, above a small community art space which offers small custom workshops and open studio time, which can be booked with special arrangement (www.SterlingCityStudio.com). The space is a 30'x50' second floor loft style open floor plan designed as an artist retreat space and studio. It is nestled amongst woods, fields and a nearby brook in a small rural hamlet whose history boasts of the original Sterling City. Renovated from a cattle barn into a net zero solar powered peaceful haven guests can enjoy rare quiet with minimal light pollution. It features one main space with a full size murphy bed, an IKEA Hemnes day bed that can be used as a twin or pulled out into a king size as well as an adjacent open studio space with a large work table (which can double as a dining table), a few drawing supplies, living room area and a pull out double futon for extra comfort. The spaces are divided by frosted sliding doors which can be left open for the full open space or closed for more privacy, separating the living space from the studio space. Guests have access to two bathrooms, including a full ceramic tiled bathtub and wardrobe for a hanging closet. All kitchen amenities are brand new , energy efficient and chosen for their low sound output. Decor is original art, and is a blend of modern and vintage. With wifi, AC, 55 inch wall TV and a washer/dryer guests can relax and unwind in this delightful space that sits high in the trees surrounded by foliage and porches on the North and East sides with ample natural light.
The first floor of the barn retains the barns original character, with stalls transformed into maker spaces including a ceramic area with pottery wheels, large work tables and a printmaking space. Small workshops with limits of five students are conducted on this first floor and residents have the option to sign up for an existing workshop or have a customized creative learning experience. For more information about studio offerings visit www.SterlingCityStudio.com.
Guests have their own private vestibule entrance with storage for coats and shoes, etc.
Just around the corner is our own Falls Brook Organic Farm where we grow and make available a variety of salad greens and seasonal vegetables. It is a miles walk to the bucolic Tiffany Farms cattle farm that hosts a farmers market on Saturdays May -October where its locally raised beef can be purchased as well as a variety of other items from CT grown vendors.
While located in a low traffic quiet and rural hamlet it offers easy access to multiple area amenities including grocery, hardware and shopping as well as hiking, beach, recreation and area museums including The Florence Griswold Museum, Lyman Allen Museum, Mystic Seaport and Aquarium and Rhode Island School of Design. It is an easy drive or train ride to Providence, Boston and NY. Whether you’re a small family, group of friends, couple or individual, experience what Lyme has to offer with a stay at our charming barn.
