Manor House Hotel

"Staff were really friendly. Hotel was beautiful, as was our room except for the carpet. Stained pink in places and brown spots, told reception as was worried staying with two teenage boys they may have thought it was us! Lady was extremely apologetic and informed me that she would let the managers know. There were also sweet wrappers under the bed which were not ours. Spa looked beautiful, but more for couples/adults relaxing so decided against ruining the vibe with teenage boys! Would visit again with friends or husband though. Restaurant again was beautiful, it did take 45 minutes for our starter to arrive but I think they were short staffed and lady was doing her very best. Once did arrive, food was lovely, as was breakfast. Would stay again as location excellent, staff friendly and think just got a bit unlucky with the carpet as the rest of the room was beautiful especially the bathroom."

"As soon as I walked into The George I was welcomed with friendly smiley staff who helped me check in and showed me to my room. They went through dinner times as well as breakfast. I didn't eat breakfast as I was too full up from the dinner the previous evening, the pie was beautiful and the sticky toffee pudding was yummy! My room was of a good size, clean and tidy and en-suite shower room was lovely. I will definitely be booking to stay at The George again when I next visit."

"This was a last minute find for us as the hotels we usually use in Thirsk were busy. What a great decision it was too. Gorgeous setting for the hotel with a lovely welcome and a very clean and comfortable room. Food was excellent with a full breakfast range and we had dinner here one night too which was equally impressive. On the Saturday there was a wedding all day but frankly they had plenty of staff on so you never felt excluded. Yes this meant a short wait at the bar and Sunday morning there was a delay on some breakfast items but they were serving 180 people so totally understandable and didn't spoil the visit. Above all else the reception and dining staff were exceptional. Would recommend to anyone wanting to visit the area especially being a few miles from York."

"Enjoyed our stay here. Great location, has everything you need for a comfortable short start, and is bursting full of character - so much so that it felt like stepping back into a hotel from the late 80s/ early 90s. The rooms appear to have been half refurbished - the beds are beautifully styled and very comfortable, but the other furniture is dark wood from a long time ago. Our bathroom was very outdated but somehow felt nostalgic! Antiquated shower over the bath, with a fabric shower curtain - something I’ve not seen in a hotel for over a decade. However the shower was powerful and hot and the toiletries were great quality and smelt amazing. The bar and restaurant area is a little more modern, very pleasant, and dinner was beautifully presented and very tasty. We also used the heated swimming pool and sauna, which was a lovely bonus. Again the changing area was very outdated but did the job. All in all, a great place to stay - maybe more for the over 50s than a young crowd but lots to like about this hotel."
