Start exploring Denmark with a trip to North Jutland
Trips to North Jutland are popular because of the magnificent scenery and wide range of activities. Spend a weekend or a full holiday sampling the delights of local lobster on Læsø, learn more about the Second World War at Museumscenter Hanstholm, or stand with one foot in Kattegat and the other in Skagerrak!
At the very top of North Jutland are the beautiful beaches of Skagen, a town offering world-class restaurants and the Grenen, where two seas meet. Rent a bike and check out Denmark’s biggest wandering dune, the Råbjerg Mile. If you've got the kids with you, spend a day at Aalborg Zoo, let them loose in Fårup Sommerland amusement park or learn about aquatic life together at the North Sea Oceanarium.
Stop by picturesque Rebild to visit the forest of Rold Skov and the hills of Rebild Bakker, excellent for hiking, picnics or for mountain-biking along the 23 km route through the rugged landscape. Don’t miss an excursion to the island of Læsø for the unique fauna and flora of the Rønnerne, where the world-famous Læsø Salt also comes from.
Anyone remotely interested in history will love the fairytale castles and fascinating museums telling the story of Denmark’s past. Find out more about the Vikings at Vikingecenter Fyrkat, or take part in Medieval days at Voergaard Slot. Danish art is richly represented at local galleries, including the famous Utzon Center featuring art and design by Jørn and Kim Utzon.
The sea and Limfjord are never far away from any part of North Jutland, providing lots of opportunities for water sports, sailing or rowing. Reaching North Jutland is easy by road or rail. The region is served by excellent bus and rail links, so it's easy to get around and see the sights or try out the huge range of activities on offer, regardless of your form of transport.
Go fishing for lobster, gather oysters in the shallows of the Limfjord or enjoy the simple pleasure of walks along the beaches. There’s also no shortage of indoor activities, and that means plenty to do for the whole family – whatever the weather.
