Traveling 6 hrs and this is our second booking at this listing. We love the location and the historic feel of the house. Wonderful communication with owner. Highly recommend.
Did many daytime excursions and this was a great place to come back to at the end of the day, grill out on the patio, and relax and enjoy each others company. Thank you!!
Beautiful property and lovely home. Hardwood floors and period decor. Although my stay was during hot July weather, the home remained cool. Easy check in and check out. Loved our stay.
Met owner since once we arrived, was super friendly and welcoming. House was very accurately described. Location and atmosphere was perfect for a historic kind of of experience. Would definitely stay again!
We had a lovely stay at this property. It was a great place to relax for the day as well as a great home base for day trips to Hershey Park and Gettysburg. Lovely houses all around too. Thanks for a relaxing trip!
A beautiful gem, especially for graduation from Dickinson!
This property is amazing! It is incredibly beautiful. The pictures make it look a little old-fashioned and dark but when you go there that is not the case. It is beautifully historic. The grounds are amazing. The summer kitchen just makes you yarn for colonial times. It was an amazing house and property to stay on for my daughter‘s graduation from Dickinson College.
We had a great time staying here at your home. We felt like we were living in a historical home and loved the touch of keeping it period and adding a few creature comforts of everyday life in the 21st century. Loved the ole black and tan as well as the wide wooden flooring and beam ceilings. This will be our first choice for staying here again when we visit in the future.
This is the first VRBO that i would be overjoyed if the opportunity arose to revisit the area and this home was available. I walked in the door and instantly loved the look and feel of this old house. The amenities provided were excellent. When it wasn't raining, we enjoyed the beautiful backyard area.backyard area.
We needed a place to stay and host small gatherings of family/friends for our son's graduation from Dickinson College. Fontinalis was the perfect solution. The hosts were accommodating and very responsive. The house was historic and comfortable. And the grounds were park-like. We had a wonderful stay! Thank you.
We had a wonderful time staying the Fontinalis home. It was well stocked with everything we could need! The welcome basket was perfect for the next morning after our long drive to PA. We started our mornings slow with coffee on the quiet back deck and finished the evenings watching fireflies around the fire. We were looking for something centrally located to DC, Hershey Park, and a few battlefields and this hit the spot. Would definitely recommend!
My family and I had a wonderful time staying at the Fontinalis. The home was exactly as described: clean, inviting, and charming. Coming from Minnesota, we appreciated the great location, which provided easy access to various events and attractions. While staying in Newville, we visited the Cumberland Valley, Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C., Gettysburg, the U.S. Army Museum, and Antietam. With all the activities and adventures during our vacation, it was great to unwind and relax at the Fontinalis after our excursions. The property managers were accommodating and responsive, ensuring our stay was comfortable. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this property!
I have stayed in many home rentals over the years and this is one of the most beautiful houses I have ever seen. Arrival and check in was super easy and we were greeted with a welcome basket and a card. The house is old and historic and restored in the most amazing way with an attention to detail and every room filled with art. The house is surrounded by greenery and farms and not too far from Carlisle. Our hosts were welcoming and accommodating, I could not ask for a nicer stay. Thank you!
My girlfriends and I have been going away together for 30 years and somewhere different each year. We take turns finding a place to stay and I exceeded all expectations this year. We all agreed that Fontinalis is the best place we stayed. Cecilia and Dan were great at communicating and left us a basket of snacks. The kitchen was well stocked with spices and condiments, coffee, tea and everything we needed. The house is gorgeous and the grounds fun to explore. Everything was perfect! Thank you!
I can’t say enough wonderful things about this stay. The hosts were amazing, the house was gorgeous and the detail and thought they put into this gem is impeccable. I have to say this is my favorite Vrbo home ever. We had 8 people comfortably and they even accommodated an extra bed for my 11year old granddaughter. The house was perfect! Beautifully stocked and furnished like a museum. The location again, was perfect in between Hershey Park and Gettysburg.
We had ages 11 to 66 and there were no issues at all! If I could give 10 stars I would! Thank you Dan and Cecelia for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home!
... a nicer stay or place. Clean and comfortable, a 200 year old (or more) manor house steeped in history and place. The general area is rolling forested hills and country roads, heavily corn-planted and heavily Amish. Though we might never have left the property and been content, we did get out see a few sights during our three day stay: Tiny Newville, 6 or 7 minutes away (Theo's Diner for breakfast), Carlisle, where we ate at Cafe Bruge and watched the annual corvette parade (hundreds, old and new), a 20 minute drive from Fontinalis, and South Mountain (at the suggestion of Dan and Cecilia), with its beautiful lakes (a great sandy beach on one of them) and nature paths, a very restful and attractive destination not more than 15 minutes away. The simplist pleasure was simply walk down the hill from Fontinalis to a renown trout stream, where we waded in freezing cold water in proximity to several Amish families doing the same (a tractor pulling a half a dozen multi-colored plastic wagons was busy taking them to and from the stream). At one point an old Mennonite couple in a car that had seen better days came puttering along and stopped in the middle of the road to greet our three year olds. I will say that three days is NOT enough time to enjoy Fontinalis itself, the immediate surrounds or the Cumberland Valley. And remember, ... Gettysburg is just a 30 minute drive south. And the house a nice little sound system and ... a Roberta Flack CD! Thanks D and C.
Enjoyed staying at Dan and Cecelia's for Dickinson parents' weekend! So convenient to many campuses nearby. The house is lovingly restored with many fascinating architectural and design details!
We needed a place to stay while we attended the state track meet at Shippensburg University for an awards ceremony. The property was fantastic- not too far from the university, and my daughter loved playing in the yard and learning about all of the plants in the garden. The welcome basket to make s’mores was a fantastic touch! We would definitely stay again!
It was the most stunning surprise as we walked into this richly decorated, most beautiful home. Check in and communication with the host ensured ease of the process. We took full advantage of the fully equiped home and and kitchen and never left after our arrival as we ate meals in the garden and dinner in the dining room. The beds are so comfortable and the sheets were top quality. We enjoyed the weekend so much we are booking for next year.
