This quaint holiday home, as its name suggests, was the former blacksmiths shop which resides beside the village green. The green is a lovely place to sit, relax, take a breath and admire the beautiful surroundings of the unspoilt village of Shorwell (pronounced ’shorrel’ by many resident islanders), which was named after the local spring - The Shor Well. This was one of Queen Victoria’s favourite places to visit when she was on the island holidaying at her residence Osborne House. The village is centred around its historic church, St Peters, which dates back to the 12th century.
The surrounding parish is also home to a trio of impressive manor houses - Northcourt, Westcourt and Wolverton Manor. Today, the village stands in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is at the centre of a network of footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes to explore and enjoy. The routes are scattered with lovely thatched cottages, and the village also has an 18th-century country pub and a small local shop and post office.
There are plenty of activities to keep you busy on the island, including walking, cycling and swimming at any of the glorious beaches are plentiful. You can even try your hand at paragliding if you are feeling adventurous! There are numerous attractions to discover for all ages, including The Needles with its amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and famous chairlift down to the coloured sands of Alum Bay. Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Tapnell Farm Park and Carisbrooke Castle are all worth a visit. Alternatively, why not visit Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and its gardens, or the sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes? Shop and pub ¼ mile.

We loved the Blacksmiths shop. If you love simple cottage, with big open fire, gorgeous garden room and loads of books, it is perfect. In a beautiful village too

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location, highly recommended.
Lovely cottage in a fantastic location, highly recommended. We loved staying here for a second time. It is a bit let down by a few poor maintenance issues - a fridge that needs its freezer section fixed (or simply being replaced) and a very ineffective shower. There is a new TV there, but no dvd player (despite kids dvds being on the shelves there). But these are details, and did not stop our enjoyment of staying here.

Really pleasant accommodation, had all that was needed for a self catering break.
Really pleasant accommodation, had all that was needed for a self catering break. Flowers in the sun room were fab, lovely smell.
Nearby pub is great for a really good meal.
Could use a stair gate between lounge and kitchen if you have a toddler like us. Otherwise using the oven is not safe, as easily accessed by a wandering tot.

We had a lovely weekend the village is lovely and the local pub the crown in 10 out of 10. The cottage was comfortable a little dated but we really enjoyed our stay as did our two dogs. Would definitely recommend and would love to go back in the summertime.

Lovely cottage in a great location, and plenty of room for the five of us.
Lovely cottage in a great location, and plenty of room for the five of us. The furnishings and kitchen are a little tired, but since we intended to be out most of the time (and actually were) this wasn't important. Very nice conservatory which made a natural 'quiet room' for reading & relaxing. Shorwell is a good place to base yourself for exploring south & west Wight, and is worthy of a visit in itself, together with the excellent Crown pub within a short walk. Would very happily stay again.

This is the second time I have stayed here.
This is the second time I have stayed here. First time was 5 years ago. Lovely place to stay but kitchen, bathroom and en suite toilet all need updating. The Sun Room is forgotten about when it comes to cleaning so we did that ourselves and there are lots of needless dust gatherers dotted about the place but with that said we still had a lovely 2 weeks holiday. It was cleaner than the first time we stayed but things are still forgotten I.e the water pipes in the bathroom and skirting also under the beds.( thick dust and cobwebs).
