About this property

Woodland Pod near Highclere Castle

  • Nestled in a magical woodland clearing on the Hampshire and Berkshire border near Newbury, these charming pods offer a peaceful escape for couples and families. The pods sleep 2 adults in a double bed and 2 children on fold-out Z beds, providing a perfect base to explore or relax. Guests can enjoy full access to the woodland, where children can build camps, play on the tyre swing, and gather fallen wood for fire pits. The spacious six-meter bell tent is bright and airy with a double doorway, decorated in Bedouin style with cushions and rugs. It features a double bed, fold-out Z beds, private nearby toilet, shower, and sink, plus an outside decked seating area with all bedding, towels, and cooking utensils.

Set in a secluded woodland clearing with secret passages and wood sculptures, the site offers a magical atmosphere. It’s off-grid, with no electricity—though phones can be charged in the owners’ house if needed. Inside, there’s an indoor wood burner, gas stove, BBQ, crockery, cutlery, and bottled water. The nearby village of Woolton Hill has shops, pubs, a post office, and a monthly market. Close attractions include Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey), The Chase nature reserve, Newbury Racecourse, and canal boat trips. Scenic walks and cycling trails surround the site, providing plenty of outdoor activities.

Please note the presence of free-roaming birds and dogs that may approach. Guests should bring their own wood, charcoal, and tea lights. The site promotes outdoor living with private bathrooms, outdoor seating, and fire pits, encouraging kids to embrace the camping vibe. For larger groups, additional bell tents are available, with group discounts upon enquiry.
