Find hotels in Neu Hauen from £43

The best area to stay in Neu Hauen is the Altstadt (Old Town), which is the historic heart of the city.

This attractive neighbourhood is very walkable and is characterised by its well-preserved half-timbered houses and narrow cobbled streets. The Altstadt centres around the Marktplatz (Market Square), where you'll find the historic Rathaus (Town Hall) and the impressive St. Michaelis Church. It's also home to many independent shops, cafes, and traditional German restaurants.

Couples often find the Altstadt ideal for a romantic and enjoyable trip. The picturesque setting provides a wonderful backdrop for strolls, and there are plenty of cosy restaurants for evening meals. Its central location means you're never far from a quiet spot to relax or a local shop to explore.

For families, the area around the Bürgerpark is a good choice. While still being very close to the Altstadt, this district offers more green spaces and a slightly more relaxed pace. The Bürgerpark itself provides playgrounds and open areas for children to play, and many hotels in this area offer family-friendly amenities.

The best time to go to Neu Hauen is during the late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

During these shoulder seasons, the weather is generally mild and comfortable, superb for exploring the town and surrounding nature without the intense heat of summer or the chill of winter. You'll find fewer tourists compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular attractions and local eateries.

For those looking to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking or cycling in the nearby Harz Mountains, May and September offer ideal conditions with colourful landscapes. The temperatures are usually in the comfortable range of 15°C to 20°C, making it pleasant for longer excursions.

If you're interested in cultural events or local festivals, late spring often sees traditional celebrations, while early autumn brings harvest festivals.
