Traverse Cabin. Cosy three bedroom holiday home
Traverse Cabin is a purpose built holiday home in National Park Village. With super comfortable beds in all three double bedrooms (including 2x double beds with single bunk above), full insulation, double glazing and heat pump, the cabin is a very warm, dry and inviting home away from home after a great day skiing, tramping, cycling, fishing or whatever adventure you are returning from.
Being only 20 minutes from either one of the three highlights of the region: Whakapapa ski field; the world famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing; and one of New Zealand's top mountain bike tracks the 42nd Traverse, you will be able to return home, relax and still have time to sit back and enjoy views of Mt Ruapehu from the lounge and deck.
Should you require a shuttle service to your days activity, you will find the cabin is just a five minute walk to either the summer transfers to the Tongariro Crossing, and to the winter shuttles to the top of the ski field road. Please note: there is a selection of board games, books and cards for our guests to enjoy. Also if a game is on, the local pub is a fun venue to watch the action and then stagger home! (it's only a 3 minute walk or 5 minute stagger).
Linen: We supply pillows and covered duvets. With prior notice, we can also provide sheets and towels for our guests at an additional cost, of $20 per person.
Guest Feedback: "the house was fantastic...worked really well for a group of six. The beds were REALLY comfortable and makes your place stand out ahead of most places we've stayed in. We are looking forward to coming back." Susan. Special conditions:

We stayed at the property around a month earlier and loved the whole set up, hence we came back for more! We were skiing with our young children and this property met all of our needs nicely.
Parents, adult kids and dog had a great weekend in the house. Warm, cosy, comfy and everything we needed for a homely stay. Perfect spot for ski and walking expeditions. Really lovely.
We really enjoyed quality family time here. David was always very friendly and efficient at communicating with us. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful place.
Great place, really central. It had everything we needed. A well equipped kitchen. ThecWifi and chromecast was really easy to use and it was well insulated and warm and had plenty of off street parking. A perfect place to relax after a day up at the mountain.
We were working on the Owhango school and needed a clean , comfortable place to stay. The house did not disappoint us in any way. Easy to find and the host was easy to communicate with. I look forward to returning for a visit with my family in the future
Absolutely great place to stay, clean, tidy and warm. Not far from the ski fields. Locals are super friendly. We are going to book this bach again next ski season.
Only thing we noticed is there was no recycling bin but otherwise that it was perfect.
Would recommend this place to anyone!
Great stay in this cosy cabin in the perfect location
Great stay, super lovely wee cabin. Very easy to get in and out of, stocked with everything you could need. Great location to all activities in the national park.
Only improvements could be the addition of an info book or more communication on how to turn on the gas, what to do with rubbish when done leaving etc but it was easy enough to figure it out :)
Thus property had everything we needed. It was very warm and had comfortable beds. The shower also had great pressure.
It is very small and could do with a little more storage for food. It states that it sleeps 9 however would only comfortably sleep 8. This was adequate for our group of 6 though.
We would definitely stay again.
Thank you.
Easy stay. Bed were comfortable. Had all we needed. Always disappointing when you have to bring your bedding and towels but they do warm you in description. Central location in National Park village. Sofas are used and too sink-y into, but we really weren’t there to hang out in the house just sleep and have coffee, so it was great.
Met our expectations and requirements, thought the property was good value for money. There wasn’t much description on what the check out process was. Also the hot tub wasn’t very usable.
But overall a clean and tidy property.
The location was perfect for the Tongariro Crossing trek and exploring the park. House was a a bit tired and could use a deep carpet and couch cleaning. The kitchen was hard to cook a big meal in. BUT - the beds were super comfy and the space worked well for our family of 4 adults. It was unusual to me to pay extra for towels and bedding. NOTE: if you need those (like you aren't coming with your camping gear) - be sure to arrange ahead of time! Close (walkable) to a fun pub/restaurant and general store in National Park village.
My recent stay at this lovely property left me thoroughly impressed.
Location (5/5): This home is in an excellent location, close to everything you could possibly need during your stay. it's all within easy reach. This convenience made my trip stress-free and enjoyable.
Amenities (5/5): The home is thoughtfully equipped with everything you might require. The kitchen has all the essentials, making meal preparation a breeze. What really stood out, though, was the fantastic collection of board games. They kept my kids entertained for hours, and we had a blast playing together.
Comfort (4.5/5): The only minor drawback was the size of the shower space, which is a bit on the smaller side. However, the redeeming factor was the reliable hot water supply. We never had to worry about running out of hot water, ensuring a comfortable shower experience. Plus, the house's heating system and heat pump kept us warm and cozy throughout our stay.
I highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a comfortable and convenient place to stay in the area. Our stay was fantastic, and we would happily return in the future. Thank you for making our trip so enjoyable!
Good amenities. We liked the tidy comfy set up in the kitchen, lounge and dining area. Good kitchen facilities. Comfortable beds and nice bed linen and towels.
