Top Mount Somers Hotel Reviews

Coronation Park

Coronation Park

8/10 Good
"Booked for a night in October. Felt very cold when entering the room at around 9pm, as all the windows were kept open. It took at least 1 hour for the heater to make it warm. Bathroom was too cold even after closing the window, may be due to some air leakages. Communication with staff is very good. Bathroom is clean. Except the cold part, I like everything about this 2 bedroom flat room flat"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Mount Somers?
The best area to stay in Mount Somers is directly within the village itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside for those seeking a more secluded experience.

Mount Somers village is a small, quiet settlement that serves as a gateway to the spectacular Canterbury high country. It's characterised by its rural charm, with a few local shops and a country pub. The village is compact and easily navigable, offering a genuine taste of New Zealand's South Island rural life.

For couples looking for a tranquil escape, staying in a boutique lodge or B&B just outside the village offers privacy and stunning views of the Southern Alps. These accommodations often provide excellent dining options and are perfectly situated for gentle walks or simply unwinding amidst nature.

Families will find the village a convenient base. It provides easy access to outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the nearby Mount Somers Track.
When is the best time to go to Mount Somers?
The best time to go to Mount Somers is during the summer months, from December to February, when the weather is warm and dry, making it ideal for outdoor activities.

During this period, you can expect long, sunny days with average temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C. This weather is superb for exploring the many walking tracks in the area, such as the Mount Somers Track, which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It's also a great time for river swimming and kayaking in local rivers like the Ashburton River.

Autumn, from March to May, is another excellent time to visit. The weather remains pleasant, with cooler temperatures averaging 15°C to 20°C, and the landscape transforms with beautiful autumnal colours. This season is particularly appealing for those who enjoy photography or prefer hiking in slightly cooler conditions without the summer crowds.

While Mount Somers can be visited year-round, winter (June to August) brings colder temperatures and potential snow, which can limit access to some tracks but offers opportunities for winter sports in nearby areas.
