The Moretti House was the canal-side home of poet and author Marino Moretti, who was born here in 1885. Today, the house serves as a museum related to 20th-century Italian literature, with a focus on Moretti’s novels, manuscripts and poems. Attend some of the readings, conventions and exhibitions showcased in this active museum.
Check out Moretti’s collected writings and books that are preserved in this museum. Find out about his pre-eminent works, The Voice of God and Widow of Fioravanti. Photos of the writer, recognizable in his early years by his moustache and side-swept hair, adorn the interior walls. Inspect the period décor and original furniture from Moretti’s time in the house. Piece together his life through various personal belongings and ornaments.
Come to one of the art exhibitions and chat with the teachers giving classes on Italian works. Relax in the gardens, where readings of this maestro’s poems are held. It is an ideal place to meet like-minded literature aficionados. Note that Moretti lived a long life but died in 1978, before his sister fulfilled his wishes of turning the house into a museum and study centre.
