Hotel is really quaint and done within several very old buildings - as best as possible. Decent accommodations, with the givens of walking up and down numerous stairs, dark hallways, etc. Personnel there ranges from: exceptionally sweet young woman - who carried our heavy suitcases up two steep stairs (no elevator) - to a very unfriendly male. Requests like - making a call on our behalf to a beauty salon - were met with dismay (by the male). The breakfast area could be easily mistaken for a US Best Western hotel. Impersonal. Food as well. The only thing - that was really cool - was the giant mural with the Rabelais character - Gargantua (the gourmand). All in all it is an OK place with strategic location within the downtown.

It was hard to find the Hotel and even staff who worked near the Hotel didn't know where it was situated. You need better signs on the street to show the entrance.

great location in the heart of the old town just under the chateaux. Close to bars and restaurants. The room we stayed in had windows out onto a corridor which was rather strange but as we were only staying for 1 night it was acceptable

Finding the hotel and the parking was tricky. I lucked out and parked in the right lot by chance trying to find the hotel! Great location, fun decor, great staff!

It is a very comfortable hotel in the middle of the town with parking very close by.fully clean, has good lighting in the bedrooms that enables sensible reading. Lovely location where the adjacent square is super for getting involved in local cafe life

Very comfortable hotel.
Very clean comfortable hotel...out side sitting area on first floor with loungers. Hotel is right in the main square with many restaurants to choose from. Breakfast is self service and has many choices.

Nice little hotel......Good value for the money...
They gave us a nice room on the second floor looking right out over the city square....The windows in the hotel are double paned, so even at night it was nice and quiet in the room....We could look right up and see the citadel of CHINON....There are many nice restaurants and cafes in the area.. Also, there is LaveMatique about three blocks away which we used to wash some clothes since we were staying in FRANCE for over three weeks....

The staff are lovely, the hotel is quaint but very comfortable, you step out the front door into a square full of cafes, nothing can be finer.

Wonderful location on the square. The common areas are beautifully decorated to match the age of the building while the rooms have all the modern conveniences. The breakfast buffet is great.

Nicely situated. Great shower and a nice breakfast. The room was very large - it had 3 chairs and a table. The largest room on our trip. It was very clean. The staff were very helpful. There are a large number of restraints very close — essentially out the front of the hotel in the square. Nevertheless our room was very quiet.

Reception OK, staff friendly and tried hard.Room very small and cramped hence only 4ft 6in bed. Electricity circuits very quirky eg to get the kettle to work you had to switch on a wall light. Breakfast was good. Would not stay again

This lovely hotel is perfectly situated in Chinon, just across from a popular square full of restaurants, and right next to public parking and the free lift to the Chateau. The hotel was very accommodating of our bicycles and staff were friendly and kind. Would absolutely recommend!

Happy Days in Chinon
we have stayed here before enjoyed it then, we are very comfortable in Chinon and The Hotel De France is also very good, and it had the best breakfast so far on our travels. Only complaint we could not get WiFi however many codes we tried my phone was a Samsung and my partners was Apple.

Great location!
This hotel had a great location in the main square of the town. The concierge was very helpful with restaurant suggestions and taxi cab services. The rooms were clean but the beds were a little on the stiff side. It should be noted that they do not have an elevator so if you are on the third/top floor there are a lot of stairs to walk up and down. Overall we were happy with our stay.

Perfectly located and charming hotel. Staff was friendly and accommodating. A/C did not work, so an open window was our option. No elevator/lift available in the property.

Great Hotel
This hotel is extremely well located and the staff very friendly and glad to help in any way. We were moved by the hotel because our room AC was making some disturbing noise. Our room was great and well apportioned. The only negative we can point out is that there is no lift and depending on room assignment this can mean a number of stairs to climb. We were well satisfied with our stay of three days. Jules, the receptionist was very accommodating and added to the pleasantries of the hotel.

Attractive hotel in the centre of town
Stayed here on the last night of a tour of the Loire chateaux - unfortunately the Chinon chateau closed at 6 p.m. so didn't get a chance to visit. (Too busy the next morning filling the car boot with wines from the very convenient wine shop opposite the hotel, and so far the wines we have tasted on the owner's recommendations have been excellent). Car parking just around the corner. The room was very comfortable, looking out over the square in front. The bathroom was modern with a nice roomy shower. There is no lift in the hotel, although the staircase is wide and not too difficult to negotiate. The hotel does not have a restaurant, and the restaurant next door was full (on a Friday evening), and we hadn't thought to book. However, we had an very good dinner in "La Part des Anges" restaurant about 5 minutes away. Excellent breakfast, though.

Good location. They helped us find a good restaurant for the evening. Bad thing is we had to lug our luggage up three flights of awkward steps. Whew!! Room was a bit awkward as we were on the top floor and had to watch for the beams as we walked around the room.

The hotel was in such a good position in the centre of Chinon. The hotel staff were really helpful. The only downside is that there are no lifts, so if you are on the third floor it is hard. The staff took our bags to our room, but we had to take them down the stairs

No way this was a 3 star hotel
They advertise parking. There was no parking. We could not even unload bags in front of the hotel. We had to schlep our bags 100 meters in the rain. Then because there was no elevator we had to schlep our bags up two flights of stairs to the tiniest room we have ever stayed in. The decor was fine but we were not able to sleep because the bedding, especially pillows, was so uncomfortable. The Wi Fi did not work. The attendant tried to help us but he could not get it to work either. I also want to add that the people who worked there were very nice and this is no reflection on them. Their attitude was excellent but they could not overcome the deficiencies.

Stayed overnight at this hotel on our visit to Chinon to see the fortress. Very nice hotel in a great location. Rooms were clean, Wi-Fi and everything else worked and service staff was reasonably friendly and accommodating. One big drawback was the lack of an elevator even though it was advertised as having one. Negotiating the narrow stairways to the 2nd floor room was a bit more challenging that it should have bee, given the size and weight of our luggage. There is a parking lot about 100 yards from the hotel entrance but finding a space could be difficult at times and was only free until 9:00 AM so that could be an issue if you are driving. Eating here was a pleasure with numerous restaurants right outside the entrance to the hotel. Would recommend this hotel if lack of an elevator is not an issue for you

4 days at Chinon
Had a very pleasant stay at the Hotel de France. Car parking was essential and efficient. Staff were attentive and spoke English as and when needed. Our room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the square and as the weather was hot it was good to have a window open rather than the A/C running constantly. This exposed the one problem because the road cleaning operation started very early each morning and was extremely noisy. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay.

Excellent location for visiting Chinon!
Short but a little steep walk up the hill to the town center....worth the walk. Excellent breakfast, fair storage for short stay. Nice bathroom.

this hotel is situated right in the centre of Chinon in a pleasant tree lined square full of cafes.The hotel has a small reception and pleasant staircase leading to the rooms.The room we stayed in was pleasant but small foe a superior room.The bathroom was brand new.On the downside there were no coffee making facilities in room. The buffet breakfast was varied and frequently replenished,most acceptable

Great hotel in 16th century building
This beautiful hotel is right on the square by the elevator that takes you to the chateaux in Chinon. There is a good breakfast. .There is no lift to the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms, and 3rd floor rooms are up 53 winding stairs, so if you are not fit - book a downstairs room

Great little hotel just a shame there was some building work going on while we were there but then the hotel will look very nice when it is finished . Staff very friendly & helpful breakfast very nice rooms clean . Location great right in the square in Chinon . Surrounded by resturants with good food . Chinon is lovely lots to see in surrounding area go & enjoy .

We enjoyed our stay in Chinon. The hotel was full of character, it was in the process of being updated, which included air conditioning. Most of the staff were very friendly and charming. The rooms were very small, but very well maintained. The surrounding restaurants were very good. We would also recommend eating in the hotel.
