If you enjoy being close to the sea this property is ideal. There are good views especially from the garden. The house is comfortable and warm. The owners are very responsive and have provided for most needs. Johnshaven is a good base from which to explore this stretch of coast but equally there is enough in the village that you wouldn't have to stray far.

We had a great week at Seashore Retreat - this is our second stay as a family of four. The cottage has absolutely everything one could need and was spotlessly clean too. We went crabbing (my first time) and caught 3 crabs in the harbour- the kids loved it. We enjoyed meals at The Anchor Inn, The Ship (Stonehaven) and amazing cakes at the Hidden Treasure Tea Room. All great recommendations from our host Jennifer. We had a particularly lovely lunch at Kangeroo's Leap in Montrose after a visit to the splash pad and beach. We flew kites at St Cyrus, my husband did a Highland Swing (bungee kind of thing) in Killiecrankie, and went to Ballatar and visited the newly refurbished Braemar Castle. The cottage and the great host make this one of our favourite places to stay. Such a fab holiday and of course the sunsets, sunrises and the stormy sea added to it all - we will definitely return.

The cottage is very comfortable and is exactly as shown in the photographs on the website, it’s just perfect. It comes equipped with everything you would need for a self-catering holiday and the little welcome starter pack was a nice touch. The views of the sea from both the living room and bedroom are just amazing and mesmerising…pre-breakfast coffee in bed got longer each day or maybe it was the very comfy bed!!The decking and small garden which face onto the sea would be really lovely in good weather and we were able to do some star gazing at night, as it does get very dark. We received an email pack with details about the cottage, local amenities and things to do further afield, a week before arriving at the cottage which was helpful in planning what to see. Coastal walks both south to St Cyrus and north to Gourdon are easily accessible from the cottage. A must is getting a couple of the delicious Lobster Rolls from the Lobster Shop at the harbour in Johnshaven.
Stunning! Bungaliw backs onto beach. Ships go past!
Extremely comfortable, clean, more spacious than the pictures suggest. Delightful, understanding hostess. Hoghly recommended.

This cottage was easy to locate and in a very scenic and beautiful small village with friendly inhabitants. It was extremely clean and very well equipped and had the most outstanding views of the Aberdeenshire North Sea coast line.
The owner had put together a very comprehensive book about the cottage, how the heating worked, where to find everything plus local places to eat, visit etc. It was the best introduction to a cottage I have had in the 20 years I have been renting them.
I would highly recommend Seashore Retreat to family and friends or anyone wanting a quiet seaside holiday in an upmarket property.

This is our favourite cottage of all time and we have stayed in loads.
This is our favourite cottage of all time and we have stayed in loads. Huge kitchen diner, very comfy beds and permanently toasty!
We could not understand a previous comment about the decor when you have such a brilliant vista from the lounge! We never had the TV on as there was so much to see from the patio doors and on the decking and we could always find a sheltered spot from most wind directions.
From a gannet feeding frenzy to a stoat and a resident bunny we watched loads more from the decking.
The crab/lobster wholesaler on the harbour will sell you these things, either fresh or cooked and I was treated like a pal even though I only bought 3 crabs ! Top marks to these guys.
Two top butchers Montrose and Stonehaven, bakers in Montrose and usual Co-ops most places.
We rated the local purvy very highly so we cooked in-house all the time apart from the fish supper in Gourdon- try it!
We had a Haar one day but we really want to experience a storm!
For us there were absolutely no negatives.
Sorry to rant on but we really loved this wee cottage!

Beautiful location;.
Beautiful location;. comfortable and spacious and everything needed for a self catering holiday.
Can walk for miles both ways from the house; complete peace and quiet - just how I like my holidays!
My negative is the carpet in the bathroom! Please, please replace with an impervious floor covering as soon as the house is free for a weekend.
Perhaps, next revamp, modernise the colours to reflect current times - colours dated. However, clean and comfortable
