Fantastic communication from start to finish from Steph and John, photos do not do the property justice in a fantastic location which the chateau virtually in your garden, dog friendly gated property lovely restaurants in the area
Excellent in every way. Fabulous property in a great location close to all amenities. Very friendly locals, good places to eat/drink.
The property itself is excellent with everything you need for your stay.
A beautifully furnished house set in a charming town. Lots to do and see. Surrounded by little bars and excellent restaurants all within 10 mins walk and an Ideal base for exploring the region and all its delights. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
Absolutely excellent property with everything thought of and included in the property. Will definitely be recommending to anyone contemplating a visit to this area
Initial photos and headlines don't do it justice. The location was first class and so convenient for everything. Montrieuil Bellay is fantastic. The chateau is so special.
Our stay at Steph's and John's home was perfect. Very authentic French home, it was very clean and shabby chic. Located right in the heart of the old part of town next to a beautiful bakery and great restaurants just across the street. They greeted us personally at our arrival l giving us great tips on restaurants wines and places to visit in the valley. The valley was fantastic many beautiful chateau's and countryside we will definitely come back and experience it again!
What a delightful property.
Restored with great taste in a perfect location with views of the chateau and a 2 minute walk to a bar and the bakers !!
What’s not to like !!
Beautiful property in the centre of Montreuil Bellay.
Really enjoyed our stay. So nice being able to walk up to the bakery for morning pastries and to walk to restaurants for meals. The home is thoughtfully and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed meals on the terrace and had exceptionally hot weather, so the fans were a god send! Found new places to explore in the area. Stef and John were excellent hosts, communicating well at all times.
Thank you!
Gareth and Jill
The house and garden was absolutely fabulous. A warm welcome by the owners Steph and John. Seriously impressed by the beds, wonderful to sink into after a day out. Perfect for mum’s special birthday celebration, a truly beautiful house. We enjoyed the local area including Montsoreau Sunday market and lunch there at ‘Ververt’, Fontevraud abbey and art museum. Chinon Thursday market. A morning in Saumur and found a fav restaurant ‘le cellier’. Ate once in Montreuil bellay at ‘le rencontre’, was really good. Wine tastings, evening times in the garden. A perfect holiday .
Excellent property in a quiet, charming village that quietly revealed more and more delights. The hosts were wonderfully friendly, responsive and helpful. The property is larger and even better than the photos indicate.
We were two people and the property was spacious, but would also have accommodated four with ease. The kitchen is well quipped and has good preparation space. It made self catering a pleasure. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms generous in size. The bathrooms were excellent and the central heating and hot water ideal
The village is quiet, but well provided for eating and taking enjoying a simple drink
Thus makes an excellent holiday home in a beautiful area with easy access to the rest of the Loire,
We cannot commend this home and the area enough. Don’t look elsewhere!
Beautifully restored property in a great location. Friendly owners who made us and our two dogs very welcome. The property is well equipped with everything you need. Would recommend
A wonderful period house, beautifully furnished and presented in classic French country style. Fantastically situated in the heart of this picturesque town with an amazing backdrop of the chateau and river.
Great restaurants and amenities.
A joy for all francophiles. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful week at La Douceur Angevine at the end of September 2019. The house is lovely and Steph was a great host both before and when we arrived.
We were fortunate to have some great weather so made the most of the excellent outside space to both relax and dine, and there are some very nice restaurants in the village.
Within an easy drive from the house there are loads of places to visit and we would certainly go back.
We had a lovely stay in this delightful house right in the centre of Montreuil Bellay. The house has been beautifully restored by Steph and John who were very friendly and helpful hosts. It has everything you could need for your stay. The village has a good range of shops and restaurants though like most French villages it’s quiet Monday to Wednesday. The Chateau is lovely and well worth a visit. Definitely recommend this property and hope to return some day
We had a most lovely stay at Steph‘s and John‘s house in Montreuil-Bellay. The very pretty ancient, cosy and well modernized house is located in the middle of the small town and everything is in short reach. It was a pity that we didn‘t meet Steph and John in person for they were very kind and supportive in every situation and a personal thank you would have been nice - but who knows - there may be a second chance 😊…best wishes from Arjan and Sabine 🌸
We had a great week in Montreuil-Bellay, a superb location for our cycling holiday.
The house is charming, beautifully restored, comfortable, and well equipped. Excellent Wi-Fi! We enjoyed evenings in the lovely garden, filled with the scent of roses and lavenders and the view of the castle.
Steph and John were very welcoming and helped us unload the car including our bikes. They gave us excellent tips regarding the restaurants, parking, and local and wide area attractions. Communication with Steph throughout the booking process and during our stay was superb.
We wish we could have stayed longer and we would love to go back next year.
Perfect little oasis to base our stay while exploring this area. The house itself is even cuter in real life than seen on pictures. Everything that is needed for a comfortable stay is provided. A chilled bottle of local cremant left as a welcome present was a very nice touch.
Property location in the middle of Montreuil-Bellay is handy as it is near a bar, a restaurant and a boulangerie. It feels secure because it is gated.
The outside area/front garden is a nice place to have a breakfast, enjoy the dinner at the large table or just to have some drinks any time of the day in the little side lounge area.
All in all, a lovely place. :)
Superbly renovated maison within an old French village.
We spent five weeks in France travelling from Strasbourg through Burgundy and along the Loire, finishing in Montreuil-Bellay.
While other accommodations were excellent, this one was superb.
The house was set very close to the chateau ramparts, so was in the heart of the village. The view was breathtaking. This was why I came to France. For the history.
The renovations were in keeping with the history of the house with upmarket furnishings and fittings.
It was a pleasure to come home after "chateau-ing" to relax in the garden or to visit the local tavern (an absolute must).
Communication with our hosts was the best we have encountered in the 35 years we have been travelling in Europe.
Steph and John were waiting to meet us, explain all functionalities and give advice on the best local chateaus to visit, along with local town markets which had the best produce and other stalls. Fantastic.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
This little house nestled against the chateau in the centre of Montreuil-Bellay was a great choice for us. The decor is beautiful inside and out, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the showers excellent, the kitchen very well-equipped for actually cooking and the barbecue worked well. Even though there was a heatwave we were still comfortable due to the thick walls and fans. Our only problem was with the washing machine and I expect that has been remedied by now.
Although there is no parking on site we were able to unload right outside and always found two free parking spots right around the corner.
Although M-B is at the western end of the Loire Valley and not close to the majority of the chateaux it was a great location for exploring. We visited Chenonceau at one end and went to Puy du Fou at the other. Don't miss Puy du Fou, it's not a theme park just for kids, it was one of the highlights of our three months in France.
The only reason that you might choose to stay elsewhere is if you really wanted to see lots of chateaux, but one or two is plenty for most of us and we were definitely pleased that we chose this lovely spot.
