Monte de Oro Winery

This property was beautiful and the rooms were great. Pool staff very nice. The things we did not like about this location was the front desk staff and the restaurant. After driving 9 hrs with a 9,7and 3 yr old we were ready to relax in the room. We arrived 3:30 (check in is at 4) they informed us room wasn’t ready so gave us key to explore the grounds( she was very pleasant) and informed us they would give us a text to come back for keys. By 5:10 still no text so called front desk and was put on hold and then came back on to say room was ready.When I arrived I asked why no text and how long room has been ready and was told your here now and let’s just finish getting you checked in. I at this point was not upset just a question because we had been waiting so long so he asked for the key back they gave to explore the grounds and upon giving it to him he just tossed key aside as I was bothering him. At this point now I was a little upset at his demeanor. I told him I don’t appreciate the way he is handling this as it was on them that they I believe forgot to text us. He responded again since you are standing here now let’s just get this done. As for the restaurant for 1hr no one answered phone to order out. When someone finally answered put on hold 20 min. Hung up called back said was very busy ordered our food went to pickup food and there were only 3 tables with guests. There was going to be a wedding there that weekend and they were the first priority in my thoughts.

Great staff, wonderful ambiance. Close to dining options. Great value fir your money.

Good: Excellent vacation spot, literally right on the ocean. The hotel provides and sets up everything you need for a day on their private beach - chairs, umbrellas, towels, tables etc. Food and drink service is available on the beach as well. Beach staff was very friendly and responsive, and didn't expect tips (for non-food services). Hotel is cashless - everything is charged to your room. Room has a kitchen with plates, utensils etc. Parking is included and plentiful. Common areas were recently updated. Unknown: We didn't make use of services like massage or tennis courts. Bad: Rooms are outdated. Our room, like others', smelled musky and unpleasant. Room quality is an $80/night motel. Two spiders in it too. The beach furniture, also old and worn, are stacked right ON the beach by the hotel. VERY ugly, and hiding the view of the ocean. They could be placed on the side. The umbrellas look cheap and ugly. The first floor rooms are almost uniformly without privacy, due to how the hotel is situated - you'll either be facing the parking lot (like we did) or the beach, with people constantly walking by. If you care about privacy and want to be able to have the blinds open, you'd need a second floor room or stay elsewhere. The restaurant waiters were, with one exception, inattentive and neglectful, and there were hardly any guests there. It felt like they (except one) were bothered by us being there. Club members seem prioritized over guests. Not sure we'd return.
