Mill Valley Tree House
My house is located on a hillside close to the village of Mill Valley. There is a gorgeous master bedroom suite, with jacuzzi bath, a second bedroom with a queen bed and a daybed the living room. The house has a chef’s kitchen, elegant dining area, and a living room with cathedral ceilings and floor to ceiling windows . The deck has lovely views of the valley. It is a perfect place to have your morning coffee. It is an easy 8 minute walk to the village where you will find interesting shops, and lots of eclectic restaurants. Hiking trails are nearby and it is possible to walk from the house to the trails on Mount Tam. It is 30 minutes drive into downtown San Francisco, Berkeley, and Stinson Beach. Muir Woods is ten minutes away unless you decide to hike in! The wine country is a 45 minute drive. This is my house and I live here when not renting to guests. If you are looking for a hotel experience, this is not it. I have a downstairs studio on the property with a separate entrance where I sometimes stay. I love to get to know my guests but respect their privacy. There are many stairs up to the house so if you have trouble with stairs, this might not be a good place for you. There is a steep driveway leading up to the house. There is also street parking with steps up to the house. I share my house with my standard poodle,Gigi. She loves to get to know my guests and poodles are hypoallergenic! Children are welcome. I am a professional chef and the kitchen is equipped with state of the art appliances, and lots of cooking essentials. .The kitchen is well stocked and guests are welcome to cook and use whatever foods are in the cupboard. I always provide my guests with food and drinks for breakfast. I even cater a dinner for my guests once in a while. This is my home and I sometimes stay in my studio on the property. I love to meet my guests but also respect their privacy. If you are looking for an IKEA furnished place, this might not work for you. Minimum 2 night stay

We loved this beautiful home, it made us feel like we were living back in Marin. Spacious, welcoming, beautiful views from the living room. Well-appointed kitchen. Overall, 5 stars, thanks so much!
Joan was a doll. Gigi the poodle was adorable. Everything was well appointed. The kitchen items could have been cleaner but the bedrooms and bathrooms were great. The master shower head needs replacing. It works but the water comes out a little funky. The house is like a museum, paintings, artwork and a fun little book of the history of Joan’s travels… so interesting! It really is her home! The beds were comfortable. The town is a short 5 minute drive with Starbucks, EXCELLENT Michelin rated restaurants, live music and cute shops. The hiking was amazing and the redwoods were magical and took our breath away. It was easy to drive into San Francisco and enjoy the city. We wanted a unique, off the beaten path experience but also to have everything at our fingertips and Joan’s treehouse delivered! Joan’s description was completely accurate, the stairs and steep driveway are not for everyone, but if you are able to walk up a regular set of stairs, you can definitely get up them with your stuff if perhaps, a glass of wine and a wonderful view were waiting for you at the top!! Overall we had a wonderful stay and we would stay again.
We loved our stay here. Gorgeous house with everything you need including great art, great . books, great kitchen, comfortable beds, lots of extra pillows and blankets, and especially great views. This is someone’s home, not just a shell of a dwelling with sparse furniture. It felt like home for five days. We absolutely loved it!!
The one con is the driveway. Although I didn’t take any stars away because of it, it is very steep and there is little space for the car to rest. Our group consisted of 4 seniors so this part was a little challenging. We did use street parking occasionally, and there are steps to the house from the road.
I booked this property because it looked just beautiful in the pictures. But I have to say, it's more spectacular in person! It felt as though I was staying in a friend's home rather than a rental property. The house is beautifully decorated and there are redwood trees off the deck. (We enjoyed many bottles of wine on that deck enjoying the view :-).
The location of Mill Valley was the perfect spot (close to San Francisco, Muir Woods, Pacific Coast Highway, etc.).
The host was absolutely charming. She made us feel welcomed and gave us some tips for getting around. We enjoyed meeting her so much, we had dinner with her one night!
This property and host delivers on what it advertises. You won't be disappointed.
Unique tree house experience in a beautiful neighborhood
Joan is a terrific host, and she has a beautiful home. The view from the kitchen is spectacular, with a small redwood grove in the front yard and greater Mill Valley in the distance. The house is beautifully decorated throughout and very well-equipped. This was a great home base for us as we took on the famous Dipsea trail race.
One thing to note is that the driveway is extremely steep. We could not get our rental mini-van up there. There is ample street parking, but the road is very narrow. It all worked out fine for us, but it took a bit of getting accustomed to. At the end of the day, it was all part of the unique Mill Valley experience.
Joan was a terrific host and made us feel welcome. The house is just fun and filled with interesting art, books, plants and furnishings. The "great room" is a really pleasant space and, already the photo doesn't show it, it's all glass on two sides, not just one, with redwoods right outside.
We had the best stay at this beautiful, old home in the redwoods. Gorgeous views from the spacious living room, and the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Five stars!
We had a wonderful time staying at the Tree House. The location makes it easy to take day trips in any direction, however we found ourselves so comfortable that we didn't have the inclination to venture very far! This would be a great spot for families or two couples as long as everyone can negotiate the stairs. We enjoyed every minute ~
The host was super gracious and accommodating. She offered helpful recommendations and made us feel very welcome. The property was perfectly located - so close to so much, just a perfect walk from downtown Mill Valley for dinner, and a short drive to San Francisco, and an even shorter drive to Muir Woods. And the area was beautiful - sunrises with coffee were spectacular!
Joan was a great host. Her house is beautiful and surrounded by beautiful redwoods. The property is as seen on the pictures, very charming with beautiful views. It was perfect for our vacation. Would highly recommend it. Thank you Joan for being a great host.
This is a beautiful home with art objects all around. It was much more like being in the home of someone you know, because it’s someone’s home rather than a full time rental. The owner was on site which was nice, though we didn’t need anything. Walking to town was very easy. Highly recommend.

Unique, hideaway
When booking our getaway to the Bay Area this house came up. We couldn’t have asked for a better home or location! MillValley is a gem and the tree house was the perfect place to experience it. We enjoyed walking to breakfast and exploring the town on foot. We were able to drive to Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, Bodega Bay and San Francisco. Joan is a great host and provided us with lots of resources on the area. The fully stocked kitchen was an added bonus. Extremely comfortable house!
This is a lovely house in a lovely location.
A few aspects could be improved. The many steps from the street need better lighting. It would be nice to have the TV located in the living room rather than the bedroom and to have a TV that gets Netflicks and Amazon Prime.

Fantastic home in the trees!
We loved our stay at Joan's home in the trees! Joan is lovely and beyond accommodating. And her home is amazing! The views are breathtaking - rarely do I see sunrise through the trees coming up over the hills while getting breakfast/coffee ready in the morning. And while other reviewers called out the number of steps (50ish?), my 3 & 5 year old had no problem navigating. Also, if you have a car, getting up the driveway requires a running start! Adds a little adventure to the visit ;-) We look forward to staying at Joan's our next visit to Mill Valley!
This property was steep and very difficult to access, the owner stayed in the basement, immediately under our feet. She requested access once. The rental is her primary residence. Her tv was audible in our space. Her dog scratched and whined at our door in the morning. She occupied the only parking spot, the guest closet was full of shoes and dust, the bathroom had spider webs in several corners. The house smelled of dog and fried fish. The fridge contained her food, including a gallon of kimchi. This was an inconvenient property, devoid of privacy and a waste of my money.
This place is every bit as beautiful in real life as it is in the photos, and even better. The entire neighborhood is enchanting, but Joan's property in particular has a stunning view and lovely sunrises with open space, the forest, and mountains in the background. The bed was comfortable and she left ample supplies for breakfast as well as a bottle of wine. Her eclectic art, lovely abundant indoor plants and her comfortable furnishings made us feel relaxed and content. The lovely town Of Mill Valley (full of friendly people and great restaurants ) the Muir Woods and beach are all just a few minutes away. She is warm and lively and communicated well. Her lovely poodle was just as nice as Joan and is clearly comfortable with new people. We miss her! We cannot wait to return!
We loved our stay at this home in the trees in Mill Valley. The interior is lavishly decorated with travel mementos from around the world, and there are numerous plants both inside and out. We were unable to enjoy the deck due to heavy rainfall, but the sunroom was a lovely, cozy space to spend our downtime. Joan was an extremely helpful and gracious host. As others have noted, this is a VERY steep property and the stairs (50 total from street to door) can be slippery when wet. It was not an issue for us, but be aware if you have mobility issues. Also be aware that the single-lane road can be quite a squeeze when negotiating oncoming traffic. That being said, it's an easy walk into town through the narrow, winding streets. I definitely recommend staying at this hidden gem.

Magical Tree House
This charming home is magical and walking distance from the cute little village of Mill Valley. It’s as if the house sits at the top of giant, ancient Redwood trees. Even with my arms stretched out I would not be able to reach a fraction of the way around their trunks. The wooden porch, which stretches the length of the house, is the ideal place to sit, relax and gaze out at the striking view of the Mill Valley mountains. Ceiling to floor glass in the great room allows the natural light to flow, and perfectly illuminates the gorgeous décor. The bedroom is comfortable and well appointed, as is the cute kitchen. There is a quiet sacredness about this house that allowed me to transcend everyday concerns. This Zen feeling not only emanates from the house but from Joan herself. I felt as if I was visiting a mystical friend, and my only regret is that I didn’t have a cup of tea with her on her magnificent deck. Next time.
This treehouse was the perfect place for our group to converge for a couple of days of writing and hiking. The house is a short walk to town, and close to Muir Woods and Muir Beach. The kitchen was well stocked. The living room was comfortable with a bank of windows looking out at the tree. Just lovely.
