The Cleavelander is a hotel for young people who are in town to party, not old guys who are in bed by 11\. On arrival, I knew I screwed up. The front desk staff could not have been nicer or more professional. They took pity on me and quickly rebooked me in their other property, the Essex House. The room there was spacious and quiet and saved my trip. Michelle made our stay memorable - it should be named 'Hotel Michelle'. Unlike so many other service people in S. Beach she was genuinely nice and ready to help. She seemed to be there 24/7 (clearly overworked and underpaid). Stood out? The Clevender outside bar was outstanding in a bad way: the most overpriced lunch in our 53 year history. $114 for mediocre food, awful service and the most overpriced drinks in our history as well (have photos and the receipt to prove this). Those patrons didn't attempt to try to close the doors softly and I didn't sleep peacefully as a result.
