![Medina - Chefchaouen, Morocco
It is known for the blue washed walls and doorways in the old city. Narrow alleys, cobbled walkways, stairs up and down, leading in all directions. 

Chefchaouen's powder blue buildings mirror the cloudless Moroccan sky - but religious rather than stylistic reasons are behind the design choice. Jewish teachings suggest that by dyeing thread with tekhelel (an ancient natural dye) and weaving it into prayer shawls, people would be reminded of God's power. The tradition lives on in the regularly repainted blue buildings.

The walls are adorned with carpets, purses, blankets, paintings  and much more. It was quite an adventure to get lost in the tiny lanes and alleys and discover the many berber shops and products.

![The town of Chefchaouen, Morocco, sits at the foot of the Rif Mountains and draws tourists from around the world to wander through its charming and quiet blue streets. It's earned a reputation for being one of the prettiest towns in the country and  you would really miss out on something special if Chefcahouen is not on your Morocco itinerary. ![The view of the guard tower from the manor house at the Qasaba.  There is a single 'jail cell' in the bottom of this tower that reminded me of Casanova's cell in Venice.

The top floor of the guard tower was so beautifully finished, that I wonder if it doubled as a living space.
