The history touches Art Linkletter's life story and many Hollywood actors and dignitaries from the 1950s and 1960s. Who knows, John Wayne, Gary Cooper, John Huston, Ronald Reagan and Walt Disney, cinema industry associates of Mr. Linkletter may have stayed at the Villas and played golf on the original nine hole course, today ... the front nine. Mazatlan, as the oldest port city in Mexico, offered easy access by ship from Los Angeles. The Villas at Estrella offered a leisure lifestyle the actors and dignitaries were accustom to. Estrella Del Mar is a spectacular Golf and Beach Resort located 10 minutes from the Mazatlan International Airport and 30 minutes from the city of Mazatlan. The Condo is situated in a gated community with 3.5 miles of pristine beachfront on the Pacific Ocean. The private resort is secure and is tropically landscaped and impeccably manicured. The golf course is consistently rated in Mexico's top thirty with six holes on the ocean. The original nine hole golf course was restored and expanded by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in 1996\. Estrella Del Mar provides country club style services including driving range, practice greens, lessons and golf bag valet and storage services. The La Paloma Restaurant and Bar, Pro Shop and Fitness Center are housed at the ocean side Clubhouse. It's a casual atmosphere so … you can make a reservation to play golf or just show up to play. Afterwords, enjoy lunch or dinner at the restaurant or order your food and drinks to be delivered poolside while you walk back to the Condo past the Turtle Sanctuary on a private beach. The Condo is an end-unit with abundant light. It is on the 3rd floor near the stairs in a building served by an elevator. The lanai (covered balcony) with a table, 4 chairs and a BBQ has an ocean view overlooking the infinity pool, hot tub and beach. It is a splended spot to watch stunning sunsets or whales, porpoises and seagulls frolicking in the surf. The Condo is furnished with indigenous furniture and art. The full kitchen is well equipped with microwave, ice maker, dish washer and every gadget and small appliance for the gourmet cook. A washer/dryer is furnished. Linens, beach and bath towels are provided and the space is air-conditioned. Big screen TVs with cable are in each room, CD player and WiFi serves the Condo. Weekly housekeeping is included and additional housekeeping services can be arranged. The Las Villas Hotel and Spa offer elegant and casual dining in three distinctive settings at the Los Delfines Restaurant and Bar. The Spa features a beauty salon, massage therapy, a steam room and sauna, and another state-of-the-art fitness center. A complimentary short shuttle ride back to the Condo is available after enjoying your visit to the Hotel and Spa. If the exquisite golf, touching the first breath of nature at the Turtle Sanctuary or taking long walks on a secluded sandy beach is becoming routine, then try tennis, horseback riding, shore fishing, bogie boarding and kite surfing … all of which abound in this secluded resort. Complimentary shuttle service is available throughout the resort. If you choose not to rent a car, shuttle service from the airport can be arranged. Shuttle service to Mazatlan is available several times daily for a fee and round trip private taxi service is available to Mazatlan or Villa Union. The sandy beach stretches for miles in both directions. Dolphins and pelicans surf the endless waves. If you love a peaceful spot by the ocean, this is thee place for first class R n R! Hopefully we can return again next year! If you are looking for one of those resorts with parties and music all the time, this is NOT it. This rental is in Phase 1, which is one of the 2 smaller sections of condos. Usually there were no more than 10-12 people at the pool at any one time. Everyone here was helpful and friendly! This rental unit had everything we needed for the time we were there. Usually we just cooked and ate on our own deck. However, our favorite 'restaurant' was actually the Barefoot Bar just on the other side of the hotel. The Margaritas there remade with fresh squeezed limes and tasted great! ##### Philip H. This is our third visit to Estrella del Mar and the second time staying at Sherry’s and Fred’s place. Words are inadequate to describe the gratitude we have for yet another rejuvenating experience that in all respects fuels the soul. The condo is top notch: spotlessly clean, well equipped, gorgeous ocean view, and tranquil pools. Most mornings started with coffee on the patio watching the dolphins and pelicans play along the waves. We loved our daily walks along the endless, quiet beach that stretches for miles in both directions. Our visit to nearby Stone Island discovered a hidden gem offering beach restaurants with authentic, fresh, Mexican cuisine and entertainment right at the water's edge. For variety, we also bought a one day pass to the new Dreams resort next door and had an all inclusive, fun time to remember. Most evenings we BBQ'd and relaxed at the condo taking in the spectacular sunsets but a couple of times we strolled across the golf course to Las Villas: a smaller, local hotel where we had the best surf and turf ever! Stayed 31 nights in Dec 2017 This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent 8 Mar 2013 #### A perfect holiday Estrella del Mar is essentially a golf resort although other simple pleasures such as pool, walking on the beach and bird watching are available. There were some social activities while we were there but there is not what one would call any night life. The resort is gated, guarded and patrolled and hence as safe as anything can be in Mexico. We rented a one-bedroom condo for the two of us. The owners did everything possible to make our stay perfect, including allowing me to us his golf clubs. The unit was outfitted well and the resort helped us order fresh groceries and grog for our stay, which was great as we had already spent a week in Mazatlan and were getting tired of eating out, although we did try both of the on-site restaurants and had excellent meals at each one. The golf course is up to professional standards and hence can be challenging but is wide open enough to allow less competent players to enjoy it equally. Additionally the resort is not busy and hence play is not pushy. We were able to enjoy the bird life on the course as much as the golf itself, which is not the norm at the usual golf destination resort. We both would heartily recommend condo rental at Estrella del Mar but would advise that it is a fair ways away from Mazatlan proper. One should not attempt to enjoy the multiple pleasures of Mazatlan from a base at EDM. Every trip to town involves at least a $50 taxi fare.
