Be prepared to climb lots of stairs. Pack light. Hotel next door only serves its own guests so you have to walk in the dark for food at night if you have nothing to cook. We were not prepared for this. If you prepare the stay will be nice. The flashlight in the house did not work so we used our phone flashlight. There are little stores at the dock that sells food to cook in small quantities like single eggs. Food at restaurants are great. Bring local currency for the rides to the restaurant and ferries to nearby islands on the lake. The home is brand new, modern, with a well equipped kitchen and very comfortable beds. More importantly, the views from the balconies are breathtaking. No better place to get away from it all and enjoy nature at its best, while living in simple luxury. Outi and her house staff are always available if you need anything - including helping you to transport your luggage to and from the dock to the lancha (boat). A few tips: Ask Outi to arrange for Elena to prepare a typical Guatemalan dinner for you. Her “pepian” is delicious! Be prepared to tackle lots of steps. Unfortunately, this is not the place for those with limited mobility. Take the time to go up to the town. We used the TukTuk’s, but you can walk if you’re up for it. We recommend learning more about the Amigos de Santa Cruz (a local NGO), visiting CECAP’s artisan shop and stopping by Cafe Sabor Cruceno for a refreshing “limonada”. They also serve delicious breakfasts and lunches.
