"We had an amazing stay here, the hosts were very welcoming and kind and did everything to make our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. :) The room was tidy, clean, and decorated nicely, with plenty of space and storage. The bathroom was also great, everything was very modern and finished to a great standard. We also had a shared balcony, which I am sure is great to use in the summertime! Merlot Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"This Hotel was a wonderful place to stay. Very close to the centre square, the Eger Castle and the thermal baths. The staff were friendly and very helpful."

Hunguest Saliris

10/10 Excellent

"Wonderful in every way. The location with its lovely paths through the woods, the salt fields and ponds. It's a long walk to the pools and the grounds are closed when the pools close. The buffet's are varied, fresh and delicious. We had a rental car and parked along the road up. There is also a parking garage. We visited the surrounding charming towns. Great wineries everywhere. Staff was helpful, yet not everyone spoke English (even a little) and thus there was a communication barrier at times. Had to pay for every little thing outside the half-board."

Hunguest Hotel Flora

8/10 Good

"Stayed here 22/8/26 to 27/8/26 visiting family We received a warm welcome and given advice on facilities. We booked a superior room through Expedia, and stayed in room number 112 breakfast and evening meal included however we like to eat out. We did try evening meals twice it was ok. Rooms were clean but missed the cleaning morning after our arrival. Even though we put the sign for cleaning on the door. I don’t understand this when plenty of staff were around the corridor. Just to be aware, I took a bottle of water I’d paid for out off the mini bar in the room and took it into the dining room, one off the waiters sighed a receipt to say I had bought it in the restaurant. I showed the receptionist with dark hair I don’t know her name? our signatures on our cards that didn’t match the signature on receipt. who took our payment for lots off items from the mini bar, main bar, and restaurant. So we wasn’t charged. The morning we left we were charged for a Coke. We’d bought a large bottle of Coke from the shop and left half a bottle in the room. Well when I questioned this with the receptionist, the receptionist (with dark hair) who we paid our last bill was stood in reception and questioned when I mentioned we hadn’t had the coke and left half of a bottle from the store. She pulled a face and spoke to her colleague. Well we just paid for the coke I just couldn’t be bothered to say anymore. So just be aware I’m a honest person I was absolutely disgusted."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Maklár?

The best area to stay in Maklár is in the village centre, particularly around Fő út and its connecting streets.

This area is the heart of Maklár, offering easy access to local amenities and a sense of village life. Fő út, the main road, runs through the centre, with most shops, local eateries, and the village church located nearby. It's a compact and convenient area for getting around on foot.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find this area ideal. You're close to the local wine cellars where you can sample regional wines, and the quiet surroundings are great for unwinding. For travellers interested in local culture and a peaceful setting, staying near the village centre provides a genuine experience.

When is the best time to go to Maklár?

The best time to go to Maklár is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

During these periods, the weather is generally mild and agreeable, superb for exploring the local vineyards and the surrounding countryside. You'll find comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities without the peak summer heat or the chill of winter. This also avoids the busiest tourist season, making for a more relaxed experience.

For those interested in wine tasting and vineyard tours, early autumn is particularly good as it coincides with the grape harvest season. You might even catch some local festivals celebrating the new vintage. The landscape is also quite scenic with the changing colours of the leaves.

If you're planning a trip focused on outdoor activities like cycling or walking, late spring offers lush greenery and blooming flowers.
