Maio

Maio is situated approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Praia, the national capital.

You don't have to limit your tour to the attractions of Maio because the whole region is dotted with plenty of wonderful attractions. If you're looking for other places to check out, you'll find Pedra Badejo, 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the east, and Santa Cruz 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the east.

The Cape Verde area provides visitors a wide range of relaxing activities, such as sunbathing and bird watching.

Very often, a region's true spirit can be found in simmering pots and pans. Some of the variety of elements often used in this part of the world are cabbage and tuna. Why not try catchupa (slow boiled stew) or carne gizado (stewed meat and vegetables)? Both meals are a favorite choice in this region. To end your local meal, be sure to try papauya candy (sweet). Why don't you try a regional sprit? Ponche (cocktail with brogue, lime and molasses) is one of these.

Nothing opens hearts and minds in this amazing world of ours like language, so practice some practical Portuguese phrases before you come. A great example of such a phrase is "Você é bem-vindo" (You're welcome). And, for "Would you like to dance with me?", you can practice the phrase "Queres dançar comigo? " Don't be shy, just give it a go!
