The location gives the best of both worlds with plenty of natural attractions close by including Symonds Yat, but also easy access to urban treasures such as Cheltenham Spa, Bath, and Bristol. This long, rustic barn conversion reveals a wealth of living and sleeping space, ensuring plenty of room for all. The ground floor encompasses a charming kitchen-diner, a welcoming living room and a snooker room with a full-size snooker table along with five ensuite bedrooms in a separate wing. Upstairs are four further bedrooms, including a delightful master suite and a family bathroom. Across the courtyard, in what would once have been the stables is an external games room with a small pool table, table tennis and magnetic darts. It's the perfect place to retreat on rainy days, and for entertaining younger guests. Lodge Barn has a large, enclosed rear garden with views of unspoilt woodland in one direction and distant vistas of the River Seven in the other. The huge expanse of lawn is wonderful for garden games or picnics, whilst the patio with wooden outdoor furniture is a place for alfresco meals and soaking up the sunshine. Tucked away at the end of the games room is the private 6-seater hot tub\*. The lodge also benefits from a fully enclosed courtyard, which lies between the games room and the main barn. \*Dogs: 4 well-behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage at an additional cost each. Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog and we will then revise your booking confirmation. The pet fee is NOT included in your booking fee. A request for an additional fee per pet will be sent to you after you have placed your booking. Your pet fee must be paid for before your arrival date. Ground Floor Entrance Hall: The front door leads into an entrance hall with space to hang coats and leave shoes. Utility Room: Off the entrance hall, this handy room is where you'll find a washing machine and tumble dryer plus ironing facilities. There is also a wine fridge, freeing up space in the main kitchen fridge. To the rear is a ground-floor cloakroom with a WC and hand basin. Living Room: This impressively spacious room is filled with character featuring exposed stone walls, wooden floors and a large wood-burning stove that takes centre stage. There's plenty of seating with a large corner sofa and a comfy three-seater sofa, plus occasional chairs. Spend cosy evenings by the fire, enjoy a movie night on the Smart TV or during the summer months, throw open the doors to the garden and let the outside in. For those who enjoy a board game or two, there's a selection in the wooden sideboard. Kitchen/Diner: Warmed by the large AGA and underfloor heating, this generous room is welcoming and sociable and well-equipped for large gatherings. Exposed stone walls and wooden floors give a traditional country feel and add plenty of character. The two long tables can be placed together or separately, seating up to 18 guests comfortably, there are two dishwashers, plenty of crockery and glasses, and in addition to the AGA, there is a range-style cooker so cooking up a feast is a breeze. The central island ensures there is ample preparation space. Doors to the rear courtyard (four steps down) and to the front ensure you can let plenty of fresh air in. External Games Room: Go down the four steps from the back kitchen door and cross the courtyard to the former stables, which are now an external games room. Inside you'll find a small pool table, ideal for younger guests, along with table tennis and a magnetic dartboard. There's also a selection of outdoor games too. At the far end is a bathroom with two toilet cubicles. Please note this external room is not heated. Snooker Room: The vaulted ceiling and original beams give a timeless and characterful air to this expansive and elegantly furnished room. At one end there is a six-seater corner sofa and a large Smart TV and a DVD player (please bring your own DVDs). At the other end is a full-size snooker table and a traditional scoreboard. Balls, cues, and rest are provided, we ask that you please do not let children play on the table. From the snooker room, there are doors into a wing of the barn which houses the five ground-floor bedrooms. Each of these bedrooms has an ensuite shower room with a step-in shower cubicle, WC, hand basin, mirror, and shaver point. Bedroom One: Decorated in calming shades of grey and white this king-size bedroom looks out over the front of the barn. It's a spacious and peaceful room and storage comes in the form of a large antique chest of drawers. There are also bedside tables with reading lamps. Bedroom Two: This second king-size room is a spacious place to retreat to after a day of exploring and offers peaceful views over the rear garden. There are bedside tables with reading lamps on either side of the bed, a single wardrobe, and an antique chest of drawers. Bedroom Three: Bedroom three is a king-size room with views over the rear of the barn to the woods beyond. There's a wardrobe so you can unpack properly, bedside tables with reading lamps and an occasional chair. Bedroom Four: With a king-size bed and views out over the rear garden, this is another restful room, where you're bound to get a good night's sleep after a busy day of activity. There's an occasional chair beneath the window, bedside tables, and a wardrobe. Bedroom Five: The last of the ground floor bedrooms is a comfortable twin room, which looks out over the front drive. There is an antique chest of drawers for storage, bedside tables, and an unusual mirror table. First Floor Wooden stairs lead from the dining area to the first floor. The bedrooms on the first floor are in the oldest part of the barn. A hallway runs the length of the first floor, and there is one step up to bedrooms eight and nine. Bedroom Six: This is a cosy twin room with bedside tables with reading lamps and a wooden dressing table with drawers and a mirror. The high ceilings and beams are a nod to the heritage of the barn. A roof light lets in natural daylight. Bedroom Seven: The seventh bedroom is another twin room at the end of the house, with a low window overlooking the side. A bedside table with a lamp is placed between the two beds and there is a wardrobe, an occasional chair, and a full-length mirror. Bathroom: The family bathroom features a traditional clawfoot bath, where you can easily soak away the cares of the day in a tub full of bubbles. There's also a handbasin with a wall mirror above, a rattan chair and a WC. The original tiny windows of the barn have clever shades for privacy. Bedroom Eight: This bedroom features a double bed, high ceilings and beams, a roof light for natural daylight and original barn windows with views out to the woodland beyond. There is a wooden dressing table and a TV with Freeview. Bedroom Nine: Last but by no means least, this impressive room is the one everyone will be drawing straws for! Floor-to-ceiling windows dominate the room, framing beautiful woodland views. The high vaulted ceiling is criss-crossed by exposed wooden roof struts, which sit above a wooden super-king bed. Antique side tables with reading lamps are placed on either side of the bed, there's a double wardrobe and a button-back occasional chair. Ensuite: The ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom features a step-in shower cubicle, WC and a handbasin with a mirror above it. Outside Lodge Barn has the most fabulous garden space for guests to enjoy with a huge, enclosed lawn (small dogs should be supervised as they may be able to wriggle under the fence or gates) offering views to the woodland beyond. It's a perfect place for garden games, where little ones can run around to their heart's content and for epic picnics. There's a patio area with wooden tables and benches, and a charcoal barbecue (please bring your own charcoal). Tucked in at one end of the barn is a bubbling 6-seater hot tub\*, where you can relax after a day walking through the forest, and with little light pollution in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley, this a wonderful spot for stargazing. Beyond the hot tub is an enclosed courtyard which leads to the kitchen (four steps up), and you'll also find an external games room with a small pool table, table tennis and magnetic darts. There is plenty of parking for 8-10 cars on the main driveway. \* Additional fee of £177 for use of the hot tub per stay. ## Property amenities ### Pool/Spa - Hot tub ### Internet - Available in the house: Free WiFi ### Parking and transport - Parking on site ### Kitchen - Cookware, dishware, and utensils - Dishwasher - Hob - Microwave - Oven - Refrigerator - Toaster ### Dining - Dining table ### Bedrooms - 9 bedrooms - Bedsheets provided ### Bathroom - 7 bathrooms - Bathtub - Hair dryer - Shower - Towels provided ### Living spaces - Dining table - Fireplace - Living room - Wood stove ### Entertainment - DVD player - Games - TV ### Outdoor areas - Barbecue grill - Garden - Patio ### Laundry - Laundry facilities - Washing machine ### Comfort - Heating ### Pets - Pet friendly ### Suitability/Accessibility - Smoke-free property ### Services and conveniences - Iron/ironing board ### Location highlights - In a rural location ### Things to do - Arcade/game room - Billiards/pool table - Table tennis ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector (host has indicated there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property) - Smoke detector (host has indicated there is a smoke detector on the property) - First aid kit - Fire extinguisher ### General - Garden - Unit size: 4,338 square feet ## Similar properties ![Property grounds](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/33000000/32070000/32060800/32060738/20e5611c.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Indoor heated swimming Pool, Hot tub sleeps up to 30..Amazing Riverside House Nr Gloucester - Pool - Hot tub - Kitchen - Washer 9.6 Exceptional 21 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-11-01&endDate=2025-11-02&selected=32060738&PinnedHotelID=32060738&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Outdoor pool, a heated pool](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/26000000/25360000/25350800/25350750/6bfa9d83.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### HEATED OUTDOOR POOL(SEASONAL) /LUXURY HOT TUB -SLEEPS 18 + 8 FAMILIES ONLY FERNEY - Pool - Hot tub - Kitchen - Washer 10 Exceptional 74 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-11-01&endDate=2025-11-02&selected=25350750&PinnedHotelID=25350750&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Property grounds](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/28000000/27850000/27848500/27848482/a7a135b4.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Luxury 6 Bed House, Hot Tub, Games Room and in Walking Distance to Village Pub North Nibley - Hot tub - Kitchen - Washer - Pet-friendly 10 Exceptional 141 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-11-01&endDate=2025-11-02&selected=27848482&PinnedHotelID=27848482&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Dining](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/102000000/101380000/101373800/101373745/8dd6cb84.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### The Hickory - a joint property with 2 hot tubs, Forest of Dean Forest of Dean - Hot tub - Kitchen - Washer - Dryer 9.6 Exceptional 4 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-11-01&endDate=2025-11-02&selected=101373745&PinnedHotelID=101373745&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Pool](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/33000000/32630000/32629000/32628913/270-1e2968b9.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Riversdale Lodge is set in the heart of Symonds Yat overlooking the River Wye. The games room, large lounge and kitchen made for great entertainment areas, and the bedrooms most with en suites were well decorated. The barn was immaculate and so well located. Would definitely recommend a stay! ### 10/10 Excellent #### Hazel S. 15 Jul 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Superb spacious property Space for everyone to be together or apart, ideal for a very mixed age family gathering in a beautiful setting but close to amenities. Well equipped in all regards. ##### Hazel S. Hot tub and pool table were great additions. We had a meal brought in (by Harts Barn Cookery School - I highly recommend them as well) on the Saturday night. The dining area easily accommodated all 16 of us (and three dogs and a baby).Great to have so many of the bedrooms en-suite. Lovely walks nearby from the Lodge.A great stay all round! ##### Tim F. Lovely and warm. Great walks from the door and lovely local pubs. Games room was freezing so we couldn’t use it which was a shame. Overall a great stay ##### Nicole F. There were a few small gripes, no sharp knives for example, but we'd happily use it again. ##### Richard B. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Pamela L. 24 Feb 2025 #### Half Term family holiday We were all absolutely delighted with Lodge Barn and surrounding countryside. Plenty of space and ideal for all ages. Any queries we had were dealt with immediately. Our only negative. We felt for the size of the property and the extra charge incurred for 4 days the hot tub was very expensive. ##### Pamela L. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Sarah F. 13 Oct 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Birthday party Perfect place for a large family gathering. Spotlessly clean and well appointed. I’ve already recommended it to some of my friends ##### Sarah F. The location is beautiful. We were a group of 12 aged 21 up to 80 and it suited us all. The younger members had pool table, table tennis and hot tub and super walks.. Superb facilities. Tracey was so helpful.. The games room is brilliant, we used it a lot. We loved that there was enpigh space for everyone to spread out and do their own thing. The ourdoors space is also fantastic. The kitchen was well equipped, although for a grouo our size who had all meals in the house, we could have done with an additional fridge. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms had everything we needed. Slightly earlier check in and later check out would have been ideal. We do a family break every year and this is the first one where we found the check in time a bit late and check out time a bit early for a group our size. Overall, we would recommend the house. It has everything you need for a lovely break. ##### Heena R. Perfect outside space for games or just lounging around. Great kitchen and cooking facilities. Smallish bedrooms but adeqaute. Only small gripe was lack of compostible bin liners and black sacks. ##### David W. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Alice W. 9 Jun 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Weekend Away as a netball team The accommodation was amazing. Exactly as advertised and actually even better than we thought! Beds were extremely comfy, the accommodation was large and gave us so much space. The garden was brilliant to be able to use to play games during the day. Large kitchen table which meant we were all able to sit together during meal times. The location was good. It is off the road so quiet but also away from other houses. Overall a great stay, we would definitely stay again. ##### Alice W. Stayed 2 nights in Jun 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Meryl J. 29 Apr 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Wonderful Weekend A celebratory family occasion- eighteen of us ages ranging from 18mths to 70 and this was the perfect property and location. We were so lucky to have dry weather and spent the majority of our time outside with so much room, at one point there was badminton, mini football and paddling pool fun all happening at the same time. As a grandparent it was a joy just to sit and watch ( with a glass of wine). The BBQ worked well and lived the seating area.Everything you needed was available in the house , the kitchen was well stocked and the men were happy when they found the little chiller fridge for the beer in the utility room.Lots of bathrooms essential with five children under four.We all had a fabulous time , well worth the money, thank you . ##### Meryl J. We had lovely weather which enhanced the stay although there was plenty to do inside as well. Had a slight issue with electric sockets in the kitchen but resolved quickly. Also struggled to get a signal on TV but weren’t watching much. We could access BBC I player. All in all a very pleasant stay. Would highly recommend the property and the area. ##### Emma H. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Alice W. 12 Jun 2024 #### Fabulous stay! The property is fabulous. As a group of 18 ladies, we had more than enough space to feel comfortable without tripping over each other. The accommodation is huge! Both living rooms are well furnished along with the kitchen being large enough for everyone to sit and eat meals together. All of the bedrooms were well decorated and the beds were extremely comfy. One of the best things was the garden. We played a lot of garden games so having a large space was brilliant for us. I would definitely stay here again. ##### Alice W. Very clean and all bedrooms comfortable. The 2 lounge area’s were excellent for mixed ages to relax and watch TV or play on the snooker/ pool table. Kitchen very well equipped with everything we needed for family breakfast and celebration dinner. Great location for visiting local areas like Chepstow and Tintern. Overall a lovely place which made our trip extra special. One very small negative, the games room could do with updating, pool table particularly. ##### Phil G. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jenny H., Nottingham 12 Feb 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Gathering of two families We have been meeting up with our longtime friends and our families for many a year in different places. Lodge barn suited us perfectly. Different sections of the house for those with children and those without who didn’t want to get up so early. Being able to all sit around a big squarish table was so much more sociable than the long tables that are the usual. There was plenty of space onsite and the surrounding area beautiful and good for walks. A very enjoyable stay. ##### Jenny H. The family is scattered between Aberdeenshire, Singapore and the South of England. Barn Lodge was an ideal place for us all, the 2 large lounges meant we oldies could have a quiet area, while the children children could play noisily. Two dishwashers made clearing up easy and we made use of a recommended chef one evening (El Toro) and the Globe one lunchtime. Both were excellent. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed exploring locally.Barn Lodge was a perfect venue for us. The booking was easy to make with excellent communication from Bolthole retreats. We were able to find the property easily and it met our needs perfectly. The property had lots of amenities that are family friendly; large enclosed garden, games room, hot tub. The amount of properties and range of sizes gave us lots of options to choose but all exceptional quality, and Lodge Barn is exceptional. We will definitely property/,company again. Arears to develop - bathroom fan in first ground floor bedroom needs servicing, could be useful to put flagstones across the whole of the patio rather than some stone chips, but these are tiny tweaks to a wonderful stay. Thank you! My only criticisms are that none of the courtyard outdoor lights were working which was not ideal when walking across to the hot tub. One of the dishwashers had a severe leak and was essential for a large group. This resulted in a lot of extra washing up. The snooker table was badly torn in several places and the games room was very cold and really only suitable for young children. Despite these issues we had a wonderful weekend. ##### Mark David Terry This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### MELANIE C. 5 Feb 2025 #### Fantastic large family break We loved Lodge Barn, so much space for everyone. Lovely big kitchen where we could all eat together, plenty of everything in the kitchen pots, pans, plates and cutlery. " dishwashers 2 double ovens and a very large fridge. The rooms were all spotlessly clean and the linen and towels fresh. The layout of the barn means that there is space to all be together but also separate areas for those that want a bit of peace. The hot tub was all ready for us and easy to operate. We had a minor plumbing issue quite late at night but this was sorted first thing the next morning with a visit from the plumber. Response from the host was very prompt and plenty of support on offer to sort any inconvenience. The WiFi worked very well in all areas of the property. We would definitely stay here again if in the area with a large group. ##### MELANIE C. There was plenty of space for everyone with 2 very large reception rooms and Huge kitchen diner. Very large secure garden for the 4 dogs to enjoy the weekend as well. The bedrooms in the barn area were to me very corporate like rooms The Master suite was lovely except the hinges on the ensuite would wake the dead when moved(now oiled and silent!) There were several cob webs in the ensuite roof window which were at an easily accessible height to be cleaned. I appreciate it an old building but in places needs some loving care and attention Would I stay again …yes. We had a wonderful weekend at Lodge Barn for my wife’s Birthday surprise ##### Adrian F. It has loads of living space, very comfortable bedrooms and plenty to amuse the younger ones. Unfortunately, the kitchen Aga wasn't working, which made it chilly in the mornings. When we rang to enquire, we were told an engineer had been booked to fix it on the day we left. It's a shame we weren't told this before arrival. If you are going walking or running be prepared for some steep climbs. ## Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > [The Coppid Beech Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bracknell-Hotels-The-Coppid-Beech-Hotel.h3809.Hotel-Information) > > [Carden Park](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Chester-Hotels-Carden-Park.h190780.Hotel-Information) > > [Hampton by Hilton London Gatwick Airport](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Gatwick-Hotels-Hampton-By-Hilton-London-Gatwick-Airport.h7234788.Hotel-Information) > > [Hampton by Hilton London Stansted Airport](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Stansted-Hotels-Hampton-By-Hilton-London-Stansted-Airport.h18464320.Hotel-Information) > > [Stratford Manor Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Stratford-Upon-Avon-Hotels-Stratford-Manor.h27936.Hotel-Information) > > [Ashford International Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Ashford-Hotels-Ashford-International-Hotel.h527123.Hotel-Information) > > [Retallack Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/St-Columb-Major-Hotels-Retallack-Resort.h4537229.Hotel-Information) > > [Bloc Hotel London Gatwick Airport](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Gatwick-Hotels-Bloc-Hotel-London-Gatwick-Airport.h6594190.Hotel-Information) > > [Sand Bay Holiday Village](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Weston-Super-Mare-Hotels-Sand-Bay-Holiday-Village.h11443695.Hotel-Information) > > [St Michael's Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Falmouth-Hotels-St-Michaels-Resort.h2951426.Hotel-Information) > > [Crowne Plaza Stratford Upon Avon by IHG](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Stratford-Upon-Avon-Hotels-Crowne-Plaza-Stratford-Upon-Avon.h11307.Hotel-Information) > > [Hilton London Gatwick Airport](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Gatwick-Hotels-Hilton-London-Gatwick-Airport.h20753.Hotel-Information) > > [Norbreck Castle Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Blackpool-Hotels-Norbreck-Castle-Hotel.h6377.Hotel-Information) > > [Eastwell Manor, Champneys Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Ashford-Hotels-Eastwell-Manor.h905662.Hotel-Information) > > [Camelot Castle Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Tintagel-Hotels-Camelot-Castle-Hotel.h8083111.Hotel-Information) > > [Hollins Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Shipley-Hotels-Hollins-Hall-Hotel.h63744.Hotel-Information) > > [Chesford Grange Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Kenilworth-Hotels-Chesford-Grange.h920291.Hotel-Information) > > [Grand Burstin Hotel Folkestone](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Folkestone-Hotels-Grand-Burstin-Hotel-Folkestone.h1201483.Hotel-Information) > > [The Mill Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Chester-Hotels-The-Mill-Hotel-Spa.h1695656.Hotel-Information) > > [Village Hotel Manchester Ashton](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Ashton-Under-Lyne-Hotels-Village-Hotel-Manchester-Ashton.h1848975.Hotel-Information) > > [The Winchester Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Winchester-Hotels-The-Winchester-Hotel-Spa.h26080.Hotel-Information) > > [Hilton at St George's Park, Burton Upon Trent](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Burton-On-Trent-Hotels-Hilton-At-St-Georges-Park.h5094740.Hotel-Information) > > [Radisson Blu Hotel Manchester, Airport](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Manchester-Hotels-Radisson-Blu-Hotel-Manchester.h120016.Hotel-Information) > > [The Spa Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Royal-Tunbridge-Wells-Hotels-The-Spa-Hotel.h8849.Hotel-Information) > > [Hythe Imperial Hotel Spa & Golf](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Hythe-Imperial-Hotel-Spa-Golf.h9108.Hotel-Information) > > [The Rutland Arms Hotel, Bakewell, Derbyshire](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bakewell-Hotels-The-Rutland-Arms-Hotel.h792056.Hotel-Information) > > [Harbour Beach Club & Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Salcombe-Hotels-Harbour-Beach-Club-Hotel-Spa.h2261933.Hotel-Information) > > [Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa - Adults Only](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Newquay-Hotels-Fistral-Beach-Hotel-And-Spa-Adults-Only.h1895493.Hotel-Information) > > [Worcester Whitehouse](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Worcester-Hotels-Worcester-Whitehouse.h18498.Hotel-Information) > > [Cotswolds Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Chipping-Norton-Hotels-Cotswolds-Hotel-Spa.h13106835.Hotel-Information)
