  • Retreat to an easily accessible getaway in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains! This house is perfect for families, travel nurses, telecommuters, parents of graduating university students, easy-going cowboys and cowgirls, and respectful bachelor/bachelorette trips. We are a short 2.5-hr drive SW from DC and 1.5-hr drive west of Richmond. Leave the hustle and bustle behind, and recharge in the mountain air! Located on Nelson29 and 20-minutes from Nelson151, our cottage is nestled within our multi-generational cattle farm. Wake up to sunrises over the pond with a cup of locally roasted coffee and toast a glass to candy floss sunsets behind the mountains at dusk! Don't let the frogs nightly serenade lull you to sleep before the stars come out! Watch the cycles of the farm's hay production through the year and meet our cows! Craft memories around our handmade farm tables from oak trees on property! Our cottage has luxury memory foam mattresses for a great night's sleep, multiple Smart TVs with Hulu, fibre optic Wi-Fi for telecommuters, a sunroom with 180-views of the farm perfect for yoga, a fully furnished kitchen with settings for 12+, and games for inside and outdoors that will keep you busy, when you're not hiking, hunting, riding, fishing, off-roading, golfing, skiing/snowboarding, biking, kayaking, spectating, and tasting your way around the area.

Looking for fun things to do nearby? Catch a game at the Nelson County High School (across the street), at Liberty University (31 min.), or UVA (39 min)! Stock up on wine, beer, and spirits at some of our favourite local award-winning breweries, wineries, and distilleries, including: Blue Mountain Brewery Barrelhouse, Lovingston Winery, Virginia Distillery, Woodridge Farm Brewery, Bold Rock Cidery, Three-Notched Brewery, Devils Backbone Brewing and Distillery Company, Veritas, and Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards! We are happy to help with tour/transport vendor recommendations! Pick apples, peaches, blueberries, strawberries, pumpkins, and cherries at the local orchards, depending on the season! We have Drumheller's Orchard directly across the street! Ski or snowboard the winter slopes at Wintergreen, where your host once taught kids to ski! Golf an array of 4-season courses in the area, including Stoney Creek! Cast your line in our catch and release pond or one of the many local lakes, streams, or rivers! (Equipment is not provided. We can try to put you in contact with a local guide if you want to learn to fish.) Hike the many local trails for all skill levels from the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail to the Priest on the Appalachian Trail to explore the local flora and fauna! Peruse local art at the Heart of Nelson Artisan Collective's shop in the quaint village of Lovingston! Take a tour of Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello! Blast down one of the Neveplast tubing runs or ski in all four seasons on the slopes at Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre! Sunday drive the Skyline Drive to leaf peep in the Autumn! Enjoy a summer rodeo at Oak Ridge Estate, Farmers' Markets in Nellysford & Lovingston, and local festivals around Charlottesville, Lynchburg, and Staunton! Bring your racket for a round of tennis when class isn't in session across the street! Come be a farmhand for a day...like how we slid that one in at the end?! (Just kidding, unless there is a calf to bottle feed.). But you get it, there is always something to do.

Need a private chef? We've got an on-call trained chef available to book separately for an extra fee.

Travelling with babies and little kids? We're happy to set up the ball pit and pack & play in the sunroom, give all the local playground/library/park/activity recs!

How is our cottage configured? The house is two stories with the kitchen, three bedrooms (one twin with an adjustable Tempur-pedic frame and two queens), two bathrooms, dining room for 12, and a sunroom on the second floor. The living room with a table that can seat 6, a bathroom, and a bedroom (queen) are all on the ground floor. Unfortunately, our cottage is not ADA compliant.

50th birthday group

Our group consisted of 3 couples. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. 3 bathrooms provided us with much appreciated privacy. The house was perfect for our group and we would all consider staying her again. The owner is very kind and the host is responsive. The living/game room downstairs has a huge tv and plenty of games for entertainment. The porches are lovely for reading, sitting, and taking in the scenery.

Amazing Farm House!

We stayed with a family of 6 during a nearby wedding at Lovingston Winery. The house was perfect for everyone to do wedding prep due to the multiple bathrooms. With all the available kitchen utensils we were able to have a great breakfast feast the morning of the wedding. Plenty of board games and TVs to entertain the family after the wedding ceremony. Combined with the quaint farm setting this house was perfect if you’re staying in the Lovingston area exploring wineries or just looking for a quiet getaway.

We had a fantastic weekend stay at this cabin! Diana, the owner, went above and beyond to make our visit special. I mentioned in passing that it was my birthday, and when we arrived, we were greeted with a bottle of wine and a thoughtful card. The next day, she surprised us with a delicious cake professionally made by her husband, Koko, who is a chef. She even took time out of her Sunday to show our kids the cattle on the property — such a memorable experience for them! The cabin itself was wonderful. We loved how serene and dark the surroundings were at night — we could even see the Milky Way! The layout was perfect for our two families: the kids had plenty of space downstairs to play air hockey and foosball, while the adults enjoyed relaxing upstairs with our own space to hang out.The location was also ideal. We visited a charming nearby winery, and the kids were thrilled to pet some mini ponies there. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Highly recommend!

The place was great for our family to relax and have some fun. The master bedroom bathroom's water was really slow, hard to take a shower.
