"For someone who loves historic hotels, this place is great! The staff was wonderful too! I loved the period bathroom with its updates. Some things were a little run down. The morning muffins were good though packaged. The beds were comfortable, though the room was small. The proximity to the Avenue of the Redwoods was perfect. There is a market and deli right across the street. I would definitely stay here again, given the other options in the area."
"If you feel like staying somewhere that hasn’t been touched and you just want a bed then this is for you. Our towels were stained, the “breakfast” was a joke (microwave sandwiches and frozen waffles) - they had spaghetti noodles as coffee stirrers. Save your money and drive farther away."
"The property is in great shape, and it is stunning to look at — especially all the little details inside.
The breakfast is very good and served on one plate (egg- based dish, fruit, sausage/bacon). When we were there, the afternoon tea included a nice charcuterie board.
The garden area was closed during our stay, and the mansion didn’t have many guests. We wondered how the small staff could handle a full house when all the rooms were booked as it seemed they didn’t have a lot of time to spare with only a few rooms occupied.
The WiFi on the second floor was not very good, and we struggled to keep the connection/had very slow down and upload speeds.
Lovely place to stay, and with a few tweaks it could be an amazingly memorable place to stay.

Dog-friendly, riverfront home on a cliff w/river views, private hot tub.
10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful, clean, comfortable home with backyard sitting area overlooking the river. One morning we enjoyed seeing a deer walking by on the other side of the wire fence which separated the backyard from the edge of the cliff overlooking the river. Home is located in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. We really enjoyed our stay there. Short drive to hikes within the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and easy day trips to Ferndale and Eureka. Great communication with host who was easy to reach and responded quickly to our questions. "
"The room was incredibly clean and immediately gave a comfy home vibe, as if I'd always lived there. The staff were kind and friendly, and the community in Shelter Cove overall were a treat to interact with.
The Inn is right on the coast, so your backyard is basically a glorious view of the ocean and local wildlife via birds.
The pizza place attached to the inn was pretty good, and though I didn't try the Bistro food, the staff helped me find the person I needed to check out with.
It was overall, a 10/10 experience for me."
