About this property
Preferred Parking Pass to Dodge Ridge
Come get away to this beautiful cabin in the trees! Spectacular views plus space enough for two families. Ski, snowboard, sled, ice skate, fish, hike, swim, mountain bike, visit historic towns, or simply relax. Enjoy your cup of coffee on the wrap-around deck and gaze across the gorge at the majestic Dodge Ridge mountainside. The humming birds may join you. At night, sip some wine while you check out the Milky Way and the millions of sparkling stars.
This gorgeous cabin is located in the pristine Sierra Foothills. Driving time is 2.5 hours from East Bay, 1.5 hours from the Central Valley. Perfectly located 15 minutes from Twain Harte, 9 minutes to Pinecrest Lake and Dodge Ridge Ski Resort. Yosemite is 1.5 hours.
Come experience the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains. In the winter, watch fresh snow falling from the warm home with glorious views. There is so much here to explore and appreciate.
WINTER GUESTS: The cabin has many comforts, but it should not be considered a luxury stay. Cold Springs in winter has harsh weather. In December 2021 there were two PG&E power outages lasting over 24 hours and it snowed over 12 feet over two weeks. In serious snow, trees can fall, cars can get in accidents, which can lead to freeways being closed and county roads being impassable. It is normal for it to take hours or even a day before the county roads get plowed after a snow storm.
What We Provide (and Don't Provide) in Winter We hire a snow plow service to keep the driveway clear so that there is space for two vehicles. (A third vehicle will have a difficult time finding a place to park in snow. We don't recommend it.) We have a nice covered walkway from the driveway to the front door (read: Not much shoveling to get from the car to the door). We provide plenty of firewood, a limited supply of kindling, firestarters, matches. We have an amazing wood stove that heats up the whole house plus space heaters in case rooms get chilly. We also provide an excellent powerful wall heater should you need it.
We provide an emergency generator and multiple back-up propane tanks for fuel. The generator will power lights, refrigerator, wifi, and maybe one stove burner. We provide rock salt for de-icing stairs. We provide snow shovels. The rest is up to you.
Tasks Winter Guests Should be Prepared to Do - Dig out own vehicles in the event of snow during your stay. - Shovel a short walkway. - De-ice steps by sprinkling rock salt. - Be prepared for power outages. Bring flashlights. In the event of a power outage, guests should either be willing to go without electricity (and internet) or be willing and able to roll a 90 lb generator outdoors, hook it to a propane tank, and start the generator with the push-button. (Instructions are provided.) - Know how to light and operate a wood stove, including how to use a damper. The wood stove is the preferred source of heat for the cabin. - Carry chains (even for 4WD and AWD vehicles, it's the law when snowing) and know when, where, and how to install them. - Know how to reset a circuit breaker and a GFCI outlet.
We will accept cancelations and issue refunds due to closed roads and power outages BEFORE check-in.
SUMMER GUESTS: Summers can get hot. This cabin, like many up here, does not have AC. But don’t worry. It cools down at night and we have ceiling fans and box fans.
THE SPACE You have got to see the gigantic master suite upstairs with the balcony mountain view—gorgeous! All bedrooms have black-out/room darkening shades or curtains. Perfect for sleeping-in.
The Main Floor has an open floor plan so that everyone is included. Two bedrooms on Main Floor. Main Floor also has Living Room, wood stove, Kitchen, and Bathroom. Large Deck with both gas and charcoal grills.
Hate hauling things up flights of stairs? Just 2-3 steps from driveway to main floor of cabin.
**Wifi** Wifi is fast but the connection is intermittent. Email, streaming (e.g. Netflix, Spotify), and wifi texting work fine. Zoom meetings and wifi phone calls do not work well.
Wifi Hotspots Need to attend a Zoom meeting over wifi? There are two good places for free wifi: Zoe Coffee House in Mi Wuk Village, open 8 am to 3 pm. https://www.zoecoffeehouse.com/ And the the Mi Wuk Wash & Dry laundromat https://goo.gl/maps/sVeLcgzfeLLnbuPJ7 open 6 am to 8 pm.
Puzzles and board games abound. If you crave media, the upstairs nook has a flat screen TV with a selection of DVDs.
Bad back? The upstairs Master Suite has memory foam, which feels both firm and soft at the same time. Downstairs room with California King is a usual mattress, but guests have had zero complaints.

Wonderful location and great amenities! The property was clean, comfortable, and exactly as described. The host was extremely easy to get in touch with and made the entire stay smooth and enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend this place to others and would be happy to stay here again!
Our family of 5 had a wonderful experience at Jose Luis's cabin! It was very cozy with all the amenities we needed. The view of the mountains was beautiful! Jose Luis was extremely responsive and friendly. I appreciated the clear instructions in case of heavy snow or power outages. We knew whatever the conditions for our stay, we would have everything we needed. Luckily, the weather was beautiful. We have stayed many places near Pinecrest, and this has been our favorite! We hope to return soon!
Beautiful little place, great view, close to Dodge Ridge (parking pass was GREATLY appreciated!!). Everything was sparkling clean and in perfect working order.
Lots of games and fun for families, will definitely be returning!
The cabin itself is in a very nice location among the trees, and the pictures don't really do it justice. The preferred parking is very useful as well. During our whole stay, José has been more than helpful and even facilitated the return of some items we forgot. We'll definitely come back next year.
We had a lovely stay. Our hosts sent messages leading up to our trip with information about events in the area. Our host was also available via text message to answer any questions. The house was great and just as described. We comfortably slept 2 couples (mom & dad and the grandparents) and our 3 kids. The deck was perfect for enjoying meals and relaxing. Easy access to Pinecrest Lake- the reason for our trip!
We spent a few days at this property prior to Thanksgiving, we had days of snow and also beautiful sunshine! Beautiful view from the back decks. Lots of games in the home to keep our group busy, barbecue on site was also very beneficial. Owner provided a great communication and updates prior to the trip and checked in while we were there to ensure all was good.
This is a great place to stay if you are seeking a mountain getaway. Large but cozy cabin with wood burning stove, fully stocked kitchen and gorgeous deck overlooking the forest. Quiet and feels faraway from everything, but only 10 mins from Pinecrest Lake, and 15 min from Twain Harte. Jose Luis and family truly make the effort to ensure you enjoy their cabin and have all you need. Highly recommend!
Thanks to the host for sharing their cabin with us. It’s very clean and convenient. We got everything we needed for the stay. Appreciated the dodge ridge preferred parking permit. Kids also enjoyed the board games. Couldn’t be happier.
It’s a gorgeous spot, easy drive to Pinecrest and Strawberry. But really, even if we hadn’t gone out of the cabin, it would have still been a great vacation. The view from the porch is lovely, we got to watch ravens soaring about while playing card games. Host was incredibly proactive and friendly. Loved the guide that was provided, we had no problems but given how communicative the host was, I’ve no doubt they would be quick to help if needed. We would happily stay here again.
Really clean. No A/C, but ample fans and cooling machines provided, so never uncomfortable. Helpful hint: make note/screenshot of access code before you arrive as cell service is spotty at best.
My family of 6 was very comfortable at this location.
Nice cabin in the woods. Clean with all the amenities we needed. Close to Pinecrest lake, where I got some fishing in. Great change from the Bay Area. Got to see the stars with no light pollution. We were serenaded by the coyotes one night. My wife and I were there over Memorial Day weekend and the neighborhood was nice and quiet. Overall it was a very enjoyable stay.
Used the cabin just for a night and only to sleep because we were at a reunion at a family members nearby home. The house was comfortable, definitely chilly at night, but the furnace is very capable. The downstairs King bed needs to be replaced, but the one upstairs is very nice.
This was one of our favorite houses on our 2 week ski trip. It's very close to Dodge Ridge. The road and driveway are a little steep. It could be a problem during a major snow storm. The house, however is clean, well layed out with a nice kitchen and a killer woodstove which was well stocked with pine and almond. I loved the heated toilet seat with bidet!
We enjoyed our stay in Cold Springs! The location of the cabin was great for easy access up the mountain to Pinecrest Lake and the Stanislaus River and down the mountain for restaurants and shops in Twain Harte. We have been vacationing in the area for more than 30 years and this was the first time in several years that we traveled with our adult son and his girlfriend. Choosing this cabin worked out perfectly! It was spacious, with a very large bedroom and bathroom upstairs and additional bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs, allowing for privacy if needed. We are looking forward to staying longer in the future!
This was our 4th stay at this cabin. It was amazing as always. Jose Luis has great communication, you can always contact him at any time. The cabin always feels like home when you walk through the door. He has everything you need from the kitchen, for the bathroom, outside on the deck, laundry and games, puzzles and books for the family. Totally worth it.. we will continue to book this cabin.
We arrived quiet late due to a delayed flight so we couldn’t see the view until we woke up. It was breath taking! My friend sat and just watched the local hawk for about an hour. It was summer and pretty warm but the fans and windows kept us cool. The bathrooms were clean, the kitchen was clean and well stocked with cooking supplies. Over all the place was amazing and we will be returning for sure next summer (hopefully for longer).
Our host Jose was very kind and helpful. The cabin was absolutely wonderful. It had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. The rain and snow kept us inside but it was ok. There was plenty to do and we enjoyed every minute of it. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone who needs to get away from this busy world.
Best experience we had loved it was there for my daughter bday getaway .very relaxing and clean and quiet . everything we needed was there and can communicate with owner .he was very attentive .we will definitely go again
