Our friends and I really enjoyed our stay. There's lots of common space for socializing as well as quiet retreat areas to have privacy. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking, plus your morning coffee is ready to brew. The overlook out of the huge windows was the highlight for us. We watched so many birds eat from the feeder and enjoyed a lightning storm at dusk.
Our family of 6 stayed in the house for 3 nights. Check-in was easy and the highlight of the house is the deck and the views you get from the inside (kitchen/dining area/living room). Everything that we needed was there. The deck was great for views, as well as seeing lots of birds (hummingbird, hawks, and many others) while drink a coffee or a beer. After hiking many days in the Nat Park, we highly recommend the Apple House (a couple miles away) and the Shenandoah River State Park. The beds were more on the firm side, but the house is a great layout for many people to stay there. I highly recommend the house.
Hidden gem, large central kitchen and living space to bring everyone together
Our expectations were exceeded with the wrap around porch and view of the valley below. So relaxing every morning and evening! Bedrooms and bathrooms were well stocked and we spent most of our time sharing the porch, kitchen, and dining table with friends. Within 20min drive our group found wineries, food, cave exploration, and hiking.
I would recommend this property to anyone looking to visit Virginia wineries with friends, go hiking in the beautiful mountains, or just unwind. It is close to so many wineries, restaurants, hiking trails, and is a quiet spot to just relax. We will definitely be back!
If you’re looking for a spacious home with beautiful views, this house definitely fits the bill. It also has numerous outside sitting areas, a huge fenced-in yard (which would be awesome if you’re traveling with a dog!), great kitchen appliances, a well-working HVAC system (heating and cooling), and comfortable beds. However, be aware that you can hear quite a bit of road noise when you’re outside (which is surprising given how secluded the house is). You may also be a little disappointed with the “gourmet kitchen.” When my family and I were there, the pantry wasn’t particularly well stocked; it had only two dishtowels and one oven mitt; it didn’t have basic storage materials (cling wrap, tin foil, plastic storage bags, etc.); the tea kettle was missing its spout cover; and there weren’t many drinking glasses, wine glasses, or mugs. We also experienced a few other minor issues during our stay (dirty oven, limited toilet paper, broken light fixture in downstairs bath), but, overall, we found it to be a pleasant-enough rental.
