Not quite 4 star

Posted 14-Mar-2016
Pros: The hotel is very modern and beautifully deisgned. The food from the restaruant is amazing and the rooms are huge.
I recently stayed at Latitude 13 in Lilongwe. The hotel is extremely modern and the rooms are huge. However, there some things that need to be improved. For the cost and the number of stars (4) these changes need to be made fairly urgently so as not to have dissapointed guests. 1. I stay in hotels all over Africa as part of my job and I have never stayed in a 4+ star hotel which does not have a kettle with tea and coffee in the room. I think this is meant to encourage guests to order from the restaurant (which is prohibitively expensive, particularly if you order coffees and teas often). As someone who works late into the night, I often really appreciate being able to make my own tea/coffee from within my room. 2. The food served in the restaurant is really amazing but the room has no phone so you do have to keep walking up and down if you have a question for reception/would like to make a room service order. 3. The wifi although free is extremely slow and unreliable. If you would like to do work from your room, I would suggest purchasing a dongle with an internet bundle. 4. I booked a airport pick up with the hotel prior to arrival. The taxi driver did not come. I paid more for an independent taxi. 5. Finally, although the bathroom is really stunning there is extremely low water pressure in the shower and the bath. Also, on the day I arrived my mini "designer" soaps were not replenished and so I had a mini empty bottle of shampoo and conditioner which was rather strange

A Boutique Oasis of Calm in Lilongwe Malawi.

Posted 10-Sep-2015
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing
Location: A prestige location
This is a small Boutique Hotel. Beautifully decorated and appointed with kind, friendly and attentive staff. We enjoyed eating outside sitting opposite the pool and later swimming in it. The grounds are beautiful.

Fabulous hotel - will return time and time again!

Pros: The staff, the food, the location, the ambiance, and the wifi!
Cons: More lighting in the rooms so that one can work in the evenings.
This hotel is wonderful; from the moment you are welcomed until the minute you depart the staff cannot do enough to assist you and ensure you feel at home. The location of the hotel is convenient for the airport (approx 30 min drive) and for the town (approx 15 min drive) and is quiet. The facilities are good - the wifi is incredibly reliable (which is rare for Malawi), is a pool (although it is in full view of the restaurant so I have never seen guests swimming either time I stayed), a bar, and an excellent restaurant which is full every night of the week. The food is delicious. Well worth staying here for that reason alone. The rooms are cleaned to a high standard daily and when I was without hot water, I was moved to another room instantly. The only slight criticism I have is that the rooms are incredibly dark due to being painted black so this can make it a little challenging working in your room at night.

Very nice, just needs a door....

Staff were very friendly and the Hotel is in good condition. The restaurant is also good and seemed busy most nights. However there is no door between the downstairs restaurant/lobby area and the upstairs rooms. This means a lot of the noise echoes up through the concrete stairwell.

Stylish, comfortable rooms and top-class food

Posted 03-Aug-2015 on Hotels
Latitude 13 is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are unique and stylish, whilst still being very comfortable. We had an extremely relaxing time - helped by the plunge bath in our room! And it's worth staying here just to eat at the restaurant, which must be the best in Lilongwe.

The Belmont is French in all the best ways

Posted 25-May-2015 on Hotels
We stayed here twice in a recent visit to Paris. The first room was smaller on the top floor. The second room was on the second floor with a balcony facing the street. The rooms feel a little cramped but have all the niceties including a shower toilet (a fancy bidet) and a heated towel rack. The shower was large and had the option of a shower from above American style as well as the hand-held shower (European style). No complimentary water and the coffee in the room was instant. The decor had character and style. There was a good restaurant around the corner. There is a spa that we did not try this trip.

Best hotel in Lilongwe

Amazing hotel! A bit out of town but worth it if you have good transportation around Lilongwe. The service and quality cannot be compared. The restaurant is superb and the gardens very tranquil.

An intimate and yet chilled hotel. Lovely garden setting. The best food and a good wine list.
