Fabulous hotel - will return time and time again!

Posted 10-Aug-2015
Pros: The staff, the food, the location, the ambiance, and the wifi!
Cons: More lighting in the rooms so that one can work in the evenings.
This hotel is wonderful; from the moment you are welcomed until the minute you depart the staff cannot do enough to assist you and ensure you feel at home. The location of the hotel is convenient for the airport (approx 30 min drive) and for the town (approx 15 min drive) and is quiet. The facilities are good - the wifi is incredibly reliable (which is rare for Malawi), is a pool (although it is in full view of the restaurant so I have never seen guests swimming either time I stayed), a bar, and an excellent restaurant which is full every night of the week. The food is delicious. Well worth staying here for that reason alone. The rooms are cleaned to a high standard daily and when I was without hot water, I was moved to another room instantly. The only slight criticism I have is that the rooms are incredibly dark due to being painted black so this can make it a little challenging working in your room at night.

The Belmont is French in all the best ways

Posted 25-May-2015 on Hotels
We stayed here twice in a recent visit to Paris. The first room was smaller on the top floor. The second room was on the second floor with a balcony facing the street. The rooms feel a little cramped but have all the niceties including a shower toilet (a fancy bidet) and a heated towel rack. The shower was large and had the option of a shower from above American style as well as the hand-held shower (European style). No complimentary water and the coffee in the room was instant. The decor had character and style. There was a good restaurant around the corner. There is a spa that we did not try this trip.

Best hotel in Lilongwe

Amazing hotel! A bit out of town but worth it if you have good transportation around Lilongwe. The service and quality cannot be compared. The restaurant is superb and the gardens very tranquil.

Fantastic boutique hotel with spacious rooms

Posted 24-Mar-2015 on Hotels
Although I don't typically stay in hotels in the $200/night price range, I had to stay here due to a last minute work trip and I feel so lucky that I got to experience it. The rooms are huge - bigger than my NYC studio apartment! The décor and ambiance is very trendy and pleasing. Even though there are only a few vegetarian options at the restaurant, each dish has been fantastic. The staff is extremely attentive, sweet, and courteous - they seem to really care about their guests and their jobs! A few oddities and improvements include no phone in the rooms. Limited electrical outlets given the vast amount of space. An open shower with a low barrier so that a shower longer than 5 minutes will start flooding the entire bathroom area, which is a problem since it is open concept design - my suitcase and shoes got wet in another area of the room. Housekeeping came into my room without knocking at 8AM on a Saturday. There is no gym. There is a pool but no pool lounge chairs. All of that said, I truly love this place. It could use some minor improvements but I never want it to lose its character or its great staff. If I can afford to, I would love to stay here again!!

Very stylish, but lacks atmosphere..

Posted 25-Nov-2014
We decided to treat ourselves on our last night in Malawi and stay at Latitude13. Whilst the staff are really welcoming, everything is very clean and comfortable and the style, design features of the hotel are very nice, the place lacked any kind of atmosphere or life. It didn't help that the pool was being refurbished, which meant there was absolutely nothing to do, as there aren't really any areas to sit outside and you're too far out of town to go anywhere else really. There was a mix up apparently with Expedia, so we should have been advised that the pool would be closed, and the manager was apologetic and provided a free meal, but I think even if it had been open, we felt we'd stayed in much better places that were cheaper. Perhaps just a bit too much design, over function.

Fantastic hotel with outstandingly helpful staff!

Posted 31-Oct-2014
Pros: Brilliant staff & excellent service Stylish decor & relaxing ambience Constant wifi
Cons: The design of the rooms (black walls, furniture, floor, blinds etc...) mean that they become very dark at night. More lights might be good for working
I stayed here whilst on a work trip and couldn't have had a better experience. I lost my luggage on my flight and the staff were incredibly helpful in assisting me tracking it down and in providing me with essential supplies in the meanwhile. One staff member even offered me her dress for a meeting the following day, and another offered to take me shopping on her morning off! This epitomises the hotel where all the staff go out of their way to make your stay perfect; they are hugely generous of spirit and I cannot recommend the hotel enough. The rooms are stylish, cleaned every day, the restaurant produces food that wouldn't be out of place in some of the best restaurants in London and the wifi constantly works (which in Lilongwe is a rarity!)
