Remote cabin on 40 acres with wildlife and no distractions.
Absolute solitude. This end-of-the-road cabin sits on 40 acres to explore. It has no cell service, no TV and no internet, yet is only 15 miles from beautiful Lewistown. The master bedroom has a queen bed, the loft bedroom has two singles. There is a couch with a fold out bed. Large wrap-around deck for great views of the local wildlife. Pets are welcome and there is a large fenced-in yard. The Lewistown area is home to a blue-ribbon trout stream, hunting, hiking as well as shopping and restaurants.

This is our second time visiting and we’ll be back! The owners are so kind and great to work with. The cabin is cozy and perfect for a mountain retreat. The views of the valley and all the wildlife are the icing on this great place!
I was out in the area for work. This was absolutely the best place to come back to after some long work days. A great place to unplug, relax and have the amazing solitude the woods of Montana can offer. Thank you for making this place available for us all to rent.
Nice and secluded get away. Our kids loved sleeping in the loft and exploring the property. The host was super friendly and willing to help with any issues we had.
we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and overall conviences. Gas fireplace and A/C were easy to operate. Wonderful to have the extra large fenced yard for our 2 bird dogs. Hiked a bit but cautiously with bear spray and a revolver just in case. Loved the firepit and lots of trees for shade. The wrap around deck on 3 sides wrapped (ha!) up a quiet and relaxing stay. We will return!
Cabin and location was super cool. Be sure to read the notes on accessing the property. Lower road could use a gate and sign to alert folks that the road isn't suitable for travel and to use other road. All that considered would absolutely stay here again.
Our third time staying!! We absolutely love coming up each year! We can bring our dogs, BBQ on the deck and enjoy the beautiful scenery!! We got to meet our host, Stephen, this time. He is willing to do anything for you to make our/your stay better! Highly recommend this place for family or a quiet stay!
This is a great property to stay at if you're looking for some seclusion in nature. While its off-the-grid you definitely won't be roughing it as the cabin has all the necessities you could want. We stayed here on a hunting trip and the cabin was the perfect place to come back to after a long day.
We couldn't have asked for a better location! Gorgeous views! We loved seeing the deer every morning and evening. Private setting, and so nice and quiet! We will definitely be back!
What a wonderful place, clean , very secluded. Awesome place if you’re looking for a place on top of the mountain. Great communication with the owner Stephen. Can’t say enough great things about the place and people- hopefully we’ll be back

Spectacular location. Remote, quiet; hikes right off the porch. Many deer and other wildlife. Absolutely beautiful. Owners extremely personable.
We had a wonderful time staying here. It was very peaceful and quiet. Yard was great for our dog to enjoy freedom to play without danger of running off. Enjoyed the forest view all around and freedom to roam the property. 5 days of absolute bliss!!!
On the way up to the cabin we say a bull elk and three deer. The property is full of trees. I loved watching the morning and evening light change everyday. I painted every day. It was so wonderful. My husband and two dogs took long walks everyday exploring the property. The cabin is just perfect. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. We slept so good every night. Very nice bed.
Thank you for lending us your cabin. We can not wait to come back!

So nice. Secluded up on a mountain. Saw chipmunks, turkeys, deer, marmats, birds. Dog loved the yard. Very comfy with lift and fireplace. Very clean. Host was available at quickly if needed, but everything was perfect so did not need to call.
We love the seclusion and overall beauty of the house and area! We have have two Bernese Mountain dogs and they are in heaven when up at the South 40 Cabin! The kitchen is fairly equipped. It was chilly when we were there this last time and we used the propane fireplace! It helped to take the chill off of the cabin. The bed is comfortable. We didn’t use the fire pit because it had been dry out but have in the past! Overall it is a great experience and we will be booking again next year!
The South 40 Guest cabin was exactly as expected. Beautiful setting , simple, quiet, comfortable and tidy. My husband & I were greeted by Stephen and guided to the cabin from his yard , which we really appreciated. The road is a straight up & down mountain road, our suburban handled it just fine. Guests will need the right vehicle to access the cabin. There is a picnic table & firepit to enjoy the outdoors. Lots of land for exploring. We hope to return someday!
Lewistown is a great place to visit. Small town feel- mom & pop town. Lots of dining, shops and our highlight was the Charlie Russell Chew Choo Dinner Train.
What a hidden gem!
We ventured to this cabin with our senior dog for the 4th of July, to escape the majority of fireworks. (He is terrified of fireworks.)
While we could still hear some of the bigger booms - sound carries FAR - we were very happy with the solitude.
The cabin is cozy and equipped with a full kitchen (stocked with great kitchenware,) comfy beds, blankets, towels, and everything you could need. We felt so spoiled with the water and electricity!
The only ‘complaint’ I’d mention is admittedly a personal sensitivity, but I honestly struggled with the smell of the cabin. It’s definitely a long used, well loved cabin - which comes with its … “lingering” scents. The air freshener plug-ins were a bit too much, as well. But thankfully the great windows and ceiling fan allowed us to keep fresh air circulating.
We loved our stay! It was a surprisingly luxurious remote mountain cabin, which we were thankful to experience!
Thank you!

Prepare for Isolation
This “cabin” is an easy 10 mile drive out of town, then 2 miles along a gravel road and the hardest is 2 mile drive along a dirt solo car lane with tall vegetation down the center and on each side. We passed through 3 gates that sectioned off properties with excessive numbers of junk forgotten vehicles, equipment, RV’s and boats.
The cabin is simple, thinly constructed. We got used to the floor tilt. The decor was tasteful with attempt at rustic. We expected down to earth low impact feel. This cabin tries to accommodate a modern lifestyle for no reason.
The lighting was harsh. The floors plastic laminate. Windows vinyl. Tub fiberglass. The log headboard was nice. the bed was tall and we needed a stool! The coffee table and leather futon were solid. We didn’t have a real table so we ate at the couch.
The cabinets have ample room for groceries. No spices except salt/pepper. Water bottle a nice touch, but Big Spring Water a must. A 5 gallon in cradle would have been best. Chlorinated water ghastly!
Only one of us braved the steep stars to the loft with the unfriendly 2x4 rail to check it out.
The yard is wonderful that it is fenced and ready for dogs to play. That was great. Sadly the hill slopes down directly into house. It was an uncomfortable feeling.
There is a table and chair around the back of the house. We sat on the wood bench instead.
There are random sheds that greet you before you find the entry. Odd Feng Shui to the place.
