About this property

Maison Marius—pets allowed—1,600 m² fenced-in garden—heated pool

  • In the land of the bastides, on the border between the Black Périgord and the Purple Périgord, lies the medieval village of Cadouin.Although it is located in the heart of the village, the house feels secluded: it is the only residence on its street and features a 1,600 m² garden completely enclosed by walls. The entrance, from the high street, is through an automatic gate that opens onto the garden. This 18th- and 19th-century residence offers 140 m² of living space. Carefully renovated in 2006, 2017, and 2021, the ground floor features a fully equipped kitchen. Opposite the kitchen, a small entryway features a large window opening onto an open terrace. A hallway leads to a first bathroom with a toilet and opens onto a large living-dining room with a spacious fireplace. From there, another large window provides access to a 20 m² fully insulated (double-glazed) glass-enclosed terrace (porch) offering views of the park.

A staircase in the hallway leads to the upper floor, which features four rooms (three bedrooms and an office) as well as a second bathroom with a toilet. For your complete comfort, all windows and bay windows are double-glazed, and the central heating system is powered by an efficient heat pump. On the ground floor, a door leads to the laundry room (with a washing machine) and the cellar, where you’ll find a well equipped with an electric pump. A storage area of about 30 m² also opens onto the grounds, where a swimming pool heated to 27 °C awaits you. In the historic village of Cadouin, you’ll find four restaurants and a bar that offers a bread, pastry, and cake delivery service. In the town centre, you can admire the majestic Cistercian abbey (early 12th century), an UNESCO World Heritage Site located along the Way of St. James.Within a 30-km radius, along the Dordogne and Vézère valleys, numerous castles stand (Biron, Beynac, Commarque, Les Milandes...). The valleys are also home to exceptional archaeological sites: the National Museum of Prehistory and the caves of Les Eyzies (Font-de-Gaume, Les Combarelles), the Proumeyssac chasm, and the famous Lascaux caves. Finally, on the border of the Dordogne and Lot regions, you can explore the Padirac Chasm, and don’t forget to take a tour of the famous Bergerac wine route.

From the moment we arrived , Myself, hubby, and my parents, Martine made us feel super welcome. She showed us around the property which was even nicer than the photos in the listing. On the first day we realised there was no bread knife, Martine came by to check if everything was ok, and we mentioned the bread knife and an hour or so later she returned with one for us. Nothing was too much trouble for her. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a brand new oven, hob and fridge freezer. The Internet was fabulous and fast, lovely large flat screen tv ( for watching the World Cup on ; ) The house is a lovely large traditional old stone house, with a few charming little quirks and a lot of new renovations. We all fell in love with the house and gardens and found it extremely comfortable. The Beds were very very comfortable, with good quality bedding. We all slept very well the whole stay. The mature garden is beautifully rustic, charming, safe and fully enclosed, with the fabulous and very welcoming pool taking centre stage along with 6 sun loungers. Some of the mature trees offer shade on one side of the pool whilst the other side is open to sun all day long. There is also a BBQ area with table and chairs ( although we didn’t use these ourselves as it was just too hot ) I cant praise Martine and her lovely property enough. We all had a thoroughly marvellous time and cant wait to return next year. Also Cadouin itself is great, a very beautiful peaceful village.
