Close to Bayeux and Normandy Beaches. The cottage is a modern conversion of an old farm building. The walls we believe to be over 300 years old, and these have been completely cleaned and repointed to blend comfortably within their ancient setting. The original beams have been similarly totally renovated and are retained in the sitting room, giving the living space a very attractive blend of both modern and antique. Set back from the main road to Bayeux and surrounded by fields and woodland, this holiday property is quiet and restful. The front garden has a recently planted orchard, and the house is surrounded by flower borders. At the back, the lawn is an ideal spot for a quiet drink, or a meal outdoors. The property is close to Bayeux with its beautiful Cathedral and very famous tapestry. Just five minutes away is the market town of Le Molay Littry with its Mining Museum, Mill and Thursday morning open market. Within easy distance are all the D Day landing beaches, many Normandy War museums, the pretty, rose strewn British Cemetery in Bayeux, and the hugely impressive and moving American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach at St Laurent. Around the town of Balleroy, which boasts a striking Chateau, there are the extensive forests of "des Biards"with facilities for cycling, bird-watching, sighting wild deer and other wildlife and flora. There are horse riding stables in Le Molay Littry, and we are near to the golf course at Port en Bessin. From this charming cottage you can easily visit Le Mont St Michel (2 Hours), Suisse Normande (90 minutes) with more horse riding, bungie jumping and canoeing, Villedieu-les-Poeles, (90 minutes) a town where church bells have been produced for centuries, Granville, (1 hour) Deauville, Trouville, and Honfleur, playgrounds of the Victorians, Caen ( 30 minutes) with lovely examples of Norman architecture and a huge open market on Friday, Cherbourg(1 hour). Only about half an hour away is the pretty beach of Arromanche, with its traffic free centre, and many little cafe's and restaurants. This is the site of the Mulberry Harbour, and on top of the hill is a museum with a difference. St. Mere Eglise where John Steele hung from the church tower attached to his parachute, is 45 minutes away, and the John Steele Auberge is an excellent eating house, at reasonable prices. ## Property amenities ### Beach - The gite was everything we could have hoped for and more. A wonderful relaxing place to come back to at the end of a busy day. Fabulously well equipped kitchen, gorgeous showers, comfy beds. We ate outdoors every evening and then wandered around the garden and said hello to the cows in the next door field. The owners are next door and are charming and helpful. Susan, the owner, met us at the cottage and showed us around to familiarise us with the property which we found to be excellent in every sense. This cottage is particularly well appointed and, being a fairly new refurbishment, has very high specifications. The rooms are suitable for a family or for two couples and we spent a few highly enjoyable days at the cottage and in the local area. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage to any perspective renters as it is, literally, just as described and even better than the photographs can portray it. Thank you Susan and Andrew. Right from the initial enquiry, to booking and staying in the cottage, our hosts Susan and Andrew could not have made us more welcome (their emphasis on customer service is excellent). We found the property to be just as described and very well appointed with all the facilities you would typically expect in a clean and tidy cottage. It is located just 10-minutes from Bayeux and is an excellent base for exploring the D-Day beaches and Normandy countryside. Mont St Michel is not too far away but be prepared to arrive early if you are visiting in the height of the summer holiday period. We also enjoyed the markets in Honfleur and Bayeux and there is a great choice of restaurants in Port en Bessin. There is so much to see and do and one week was not enough so we would definately consider returning to this cottage and area. ##### Ian M. Saint Michele, Bayeux, etc. The cottage is newly renovated, immaculate, comfortable, and has a well-equipped kitchen for those nights of cooking in. The bathrooms are beautifully tiled with towels like new, and the bedrooms were very quiet and comfortable. Susan, the owner, was so easy to deal with throughout the booking process with her quick responses to emails and information. She was at the cottage to greet us upon our arrival with a warm welcome and showed us around the house. We really appreciated her outstanding restaurant recommendations and overall helpfulness during our stay. Our only regret was that we weren't there long enough to enjoy the beautiful setting of Susan's and Andrew's farm. We would highly recommend the cottage to others traveling in Normandy. Le lieu est très très bien équipé avec plein de petites attention (des dosettes se café, du sucre, de l'huile du vinaigre des épices.) Le linge fourni dont les serviettes est très appréciable quand on arrive en avion. Le mieu dispose aussi d'un lave linge d'un lave vaisselle sèche cheveux bouilloire etc... Il manquerait peut être juste une TV Un petit jardin permet de profiter de l'extérieur. La maison est située en lisière de forêt à proximité de la route un peu passante mais cela reste très agréable. Les propriétaires habitent la maison à côté et sont toujours à disposition si besoin. Je recommande de à 100% ##### benoit S. The hosts are very kind people, always in for a nice chat and providing tips for trips in the surrounding. We've had a great time and highly recommend this place for a good holiday! ##### Bas v. Le gîte est idéalement situé pour découvrir les sites et musées du débarquement aussi bien que Bayeux et sa tapisserie ou encore plages, forêts... Le charme de l’ancien, avec tout le confort moderne et une propreté parfaite, c’était vraiment agréable d’y revenir chaque jour. Susan et Andrew sont des hôtes idéaux.
