Hotel Alpenrose Wengen

Hotel Alpenrose Wengen

10/10 Excellent
"We had a lovely stay at Hotel Alpenrose and would highly recommend the hotel to other travelers. The view from our balcony was unbelievable… worth the stay just for the view. The room was clean and bathroom was surprisingly spacious. Breakfast was great and the multiple course dinner with a new menu each night was delicious (and cheaper than other dinners we had in town). The pickup/drop off service to the train station was very helpful because some of the hills with heavy luggage would be challenging. Overall, highly recommend this hotel and hope to stay again in the future!!"

Hotel Jungfraublick Wengen

Hotel Jungfraublick Wengen

8/10 Good
"We chose the forest room which overlooked a gorgeous chalet hotel. It was a peaceful atmosphere and we could sleep with our window open at night. The deck restaurant was lovely on our first nigh. I would recommend doing an RSVP as other travelers frequent the deck for dinner. They do seem to prioritize those staying at the hotel but you just make a reservation as first come first serve. Breakfast is lovely with both hard boiled and soft boil eggs, salami&cheese, yogurt, fresh bread ,fruit, coffee/tea/ovaltine/juice. We were happy we stayed in Wengen where it was quiet and much less touristy. Let’s talk LAUNDRY. It is CHF10 for 1 wash and 1 dry. ***NOTE; There is only 1 washer and 1 dryer which is a bit of an issue. *** the person on front of us had stuffed 2 baskets in. When our turn came, we set a timer to come back earlier than the dryer was set for. When we returned, someone had removed our items early and they were still damp. I used the hair dryer on several items as we had to pack them away for the trip. Trains and travel was not a problem. We used the Swiss Travel Pass with 1st Class and it was worth it. The hotel will pick you up at the train stop at the bottom of the hill, which is a huge saving with luggage. NOTE: hotel transport does NOT open until 8:00am. We had to leave at 7:30am to catch our train out and had to wheel luggage back down the hill. Overall, our stay was very nice and Wengen is a beautiful place to stay."

Find out more about Lauterbrunnen

Pocket Guide: Canton of Bern Lauterbrunnen Hotels

Arriving in Lauterbrunnen, a typically alpine village, is like setting foot into a movie scene. Mountain peaks rise out of snow-filled valleys that turn into lush woodlands in the spring and summer. Book a hotel at this Lauterbrunnen and discover this region's extensive range of natural landmarks.

Visit Lauterbrunnen

Lord of the Rings author J. R. R. Tolkien used Lauterbrunnen as a template for his painting of the fictional valley of Rivendell. But today, the forested Lauterbrunnen is a popular base for many hiking trips in the Jungfrau area. In winter, the resort has more than two-dozen ski runs, and skiers can book a special pass that will entitle them to use the pistes of nearby Wengen and Grindelwald ski resorts, where you will also find more places to stay.

Where to Stay in Lauterbrunnen

Lauterbrunnen is a good place to stay if you’re looking for a budget ski holiday. A couple of two- and three-star hotels in the village place you well for both the local ski slopes and the trains that travel over to Wengen, with its many hotels ranging from one- to four-star. You can also catch the train from Lauterbrunnen to Murren, where you’ll find even more skiing. Most Lauterbrunnen hotels are independently run, so you can look forward to an authentic experience and personalised customer service.

Staubbachfall and Trümmelbach Falls

Staubbach Falls, at 984 feet at the end of a narrow path, is one of Europe's longest free-falling waterfalls. It is just one of 72 waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen Valley and is close to the glacial Trümmelbach Falls, another impressive waterfall that you can get to using lifts and tunnels.

The Jungfraujoch

Go on an unforgettable train journey to the Jungfraujoch, which is 11,332 feet up and is Europe's highest station. Permanently covered in snow, it offers you amazing panoramic views reaching as far as Germany on the clearest days, and is often referred to as the Top of Europe.

With its glorious mountain vistas and natural attractions, Lauterbrunnen makes an ideal base for people who love the great outdoors.
