Coober Pedy is a dusty place in the outback with flies. We knew this and arrived with fly hats and average expectations with regard to the hotel. It was fun staying in a cave room, which was dusty with cave dust (we even had a small rock fall from the ceiling onto the room table when we were in bed! All part of the experience). We tried the food in the hotel which wasn't great so ventured out and tried a few different local eateries. The hotel pool was clean & secure and very welcome at the end of a hot day. Coober Pedy is a very small town. There's an IGA, restaurants and a few tourist things to do within walking distance of the hotel. Felt pretty safe. Unfortunately for us the Breakaways was closed due to wet weather & unsafe to drive but we went up to the Winch 360 within Coober Pedy town instead to see a nice sunset. There is an outdoor cinema which only operates on Saturdays and we missed that but thought it would've been fun.
