Amazing location, welcoming staff, delicious breakfast! The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was great. We got the breakfast package which had great sashimi, Japanese and western options, pickles, salad bar, and sweets. The front desk and breakfast attendants were really nice and professional. Kyoto station is right around the corner which is a must. Clean everything—the interior of the elevator was old, but everything else was nice.

The room I had was quite small, but the tremendous convenience of easy access to Kyoto Station was a huge plus. Additionally, the breakfast was superb! I also found the staff very nice and helpful.

If you are looking for a convenient clean and safe place to sleep this is it. Cons: very few bells and whistles, verysmall rooms, and prefabricated style bathrooms. Pros:The property is clean and staff is friendly, location is super convenient for train and subway travel, has coin laundry and breakfast. We are big people so a bit tight for us, but overall a great experience. Would recommend for anyone who is not giant and wants a basic place to satay.

Though the room was not very spacious, the design was simple n neat. Cleanliness was top notch. Location is fantastic, near to train station n lots of eating places. Highly recommend this hotel.

Just about okay. Breakfast has only Japanese options which makes it tricky if you are looking for eggs etc. elevator wasn’t as clean.. especially compared to everything else in Japan. Similar 3 star hotel in Tokyo were much better.

The room is nice and clean. The staff are friendly. Tried the breakfast once, it is okay with a mixed of western and Japanese. There is a 7-11 around the corner and 5 minutes walk to Kyoto Station.

This hotel is conveniently located next to the Kyoto station, just a few steps from the main Kyoto train center. Staff was quite courteous, attentive and helpful. Facilities are quite nice for the fare, they even have a dinner right next to the lobby. Rooms were spacious and clean, with all the regular amenities available. The view was great from the room we were provided since it gave us a sight of Kyoto station. Beds were super comfortable and the area was super quiet so good night sleeps were assured. The highlight of this hotel is how close is to Kyoto station. In some other hotels I've stayed in Japan it was common to take a 10-15 minutes walk to reach the nearest train station (or the stations that would lead me to the places of my interests), but here I just a had to walk a couple of blocks to reach the main station and take train to any destination of my interest. Highly recommended! Definitely will return here in my next trip to Kyoto!!!

The hotel is modern, clean and spacious. It is very close to the Kyoto Station, which makes travelling easier. I would recommend their buffet breakfast. Staff are nice and the hotel provides luggage storage. It was a pleasant stay. I would stay there again.

Staff is friendly and helpful and the hotel is conveniently located. Comfortable lobby area with a nice selection of teas and apple juice provided free for guests. It’s just a 15 minute walk to the JR-West Office and the gate to the JR lines including Shinkansen and Haruka on the station second floor. The room was smaller and the mattress was at bit hard but can’t really complain because the room rate was unbelievably low and we only used it to sleep in. Great for the active traveler who is on a budget.

Great Value for the Location!
REF was only a 3-minute walk from the Kyoto Station. We loved the location despite the small/standard room we stayed at. We were able to tug away our luggage under the bed; however, walking space was limited. The staff was friendly and spoke English. Self-care amenities/essentials such as face wash, bath salt, toothbrush, comb, etc. are self-served by the lobby. Coin laundry room and vending machine located on the 6th Floor. Bright and clean lobby area with optional breakfast buffet. Provided towels each day which we really appreciated!

Highly recommend this place! It’s very clean with friendly staff and a delicious breakfast buffet for only $10 USD. 6 min walk from Kyoto station. Hotel is simple, but has all the basics covered.

The most beautiful hotel in a perfect location. We were a little worried because of how cheap it was, but were pleasantly surprised. Our room was stunning, spacious (by Japanese standards) with a great layout and multi-use door to alter the bathroom size, and had wonderful amenities. We loved the ‘amenities bar’ in the lobby which allows for less waste. Super eco-friendly. The tea bar, with hot and cold options, was a highlight for us that we utilised every afternoon - perfect for a quick pick me up between adventures. Breakfast wasn’t our style (seemed very seafood oriented) so we gave it a miss and walked 30 seconds to 7/11 instead (so convenient!). You couldn’t get a better location if you tried. In a nice quiet side street, but a 1 minute walk to Kyoto station. Literally around the corner. The staff were friendly, had great English (a huge bonus and so helpful for us), and went above and beyond to help in any way they could. They recognised guests and made it feel like you were returning home after a day out. The whole hotel has a very calm feeling about it, which we both loved, and that helped us relax. If I had to pick a downside, the only thing that comes to mind is the pillows - they were uncomfortable at first but once we were used to them, not a problem.

The hotel is only a 3 minute walk from Kyoto Station. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean and modern. You can have breakfast there as well as a drink from the bar. There are numerous places to eat at the station and surrounding area as well as shopping nearby.

Really like the hotel. Close to everywhere, 5 minutes walk from Kyoto station (west gate exit), clean and you have everything you need. Nice hang out area downstairs. Room is basic but clean and comfortable, the only thing they only give you one pillow per person. Breakfast is nice but same menu everyday so if you stay for a week you’ll get sick of eating the same type of food everyday. Overall great stay and will come back to stay again in the future.

Overall was a great stay and love the hotel. Room is a bit on the smaller side but very clean in quiet area 3 mins walk from Kyoto Station exit West Gate. Will be back to this hotel when I come back to Japan

What I like for REF Kyoto.
What I like are 1. The lobby, it is clean, spacious, multifunction. It looks like co-working space, canteen, meeting point. 2. Breakfast is better than I expect. It has local style and internation style mixed. And it is tasty both. Drink are also valuety. I lime Japanese tea mix with rice grain. 3. Room is clean and spacious. 4. Location is not far from train station.

Very pleasant stay. Interior is bright and new. Squeaky clean. Room size is small as usual for japan hotels but comfortable. Free refreshments at lobby. Located across kyoto shinkansen station. There are elevators and escalators at the station for easy transport of luggages to the hotel. Just that for my room, the air con will be blowing directly to the face.
