Great location in the Gion District
While I didn't have the full ryokan dining experience here, it was still super-convenient to be walking distance from many of the sights I wanted to see! I only stayed one night, but I wish I had more time to interact with the friendly staff I did meet. Cute fish in the aquarium at the front!

Good to experience something like the traditional Ryokan. Perhaps a sign requesting guests to note that walls are of course thin so could they be more quiet late evening, would help better sleep.

Small but relaxed
The surrounding area was great. We climbed up to the mountain observation deck, I forget the name, sorry. Tons of local shops and still within walking distance to kyoto station(for us anyways, we walked everywhere). The mats were rough to sleep on but they offered us extra blankets to we were able to add some extra padding. Unfortunately no extra mats though. Still a minor language barrier but the staff do their very best to decipher and help if they're able to.

Well kept hostel with helpful staff and very cozy cubicles. The hostel is located about 10-15 minute walk from the train station but it's in the midst of all the cute restaurants and some famous temples. Great location.

Non smoking facility and that's an A+, quiet environment away from downtown. They should offer to change beddings though.

Perfect location, wonderful tatami experience
The stay was good, the only downside is the small size of the toilet. Perfect location, close to city centre, about 15 minutes walk to Pontocho Alley, situated in the peaceful and more traditional side of Gion. Extremely friendly staff is a plus point!

Basically a hostel with tatami rooms
Great area. The age of the building, and atmosphere when in your tatami room is good, though with age also comes some things such as creaking floor boards and a slight musty smell. The common area is like most hostels, though small for the number of rooms. The bathroom area is open, so expect to be in full view to anyone walking to kitchen, as you clean teeth, remove make up etc.

Although we always try to keep the rooms clean but we are very sorry for making you uncomfortable. We still need to be more careful about it. perfect location and super clean!
The hostel was in a great location steps away from a lot of tourist sites. The staff was friendly and had recommended stuff to see when I had no plans. The rooms were super clean and pretty quiet with air conditioning, which is a necessity in the summer. I hope to come back soon :)

Great Ryoken located in a great part of Kyoto
Great Ryoken in a charming part of Kyoto. Although you should book early as this is a popular neighborhood and a popular Ryoken.

While this inn was not the right place for me, I would highly recommend it for families traveling on a budget and for backpackers looking for safe and clean accommodations in Kyoto.

Great place. We only stayed for one night. You can't pre-reserve the the "bath" and by the time we cheked in it was fully reserved so it's a shame we didn't get to experience it.

Ideal Hostel Experience
Hostel is located in the historic district of tokyo within walking distance to Yasuka and Kiyomizou Shrines. Staff here are friendly, place has an authentic Japanese furnishing to it. They have a locker storage room with a passcode. Sleeping rooms are kept at a comfortable temperature, washrooms are clean, and prices are excellent if backpacking. I have no complaints regarding this hostel. 5/5 from me.

The staff was very helpful, but the guests I shared the dormitory with did not make my experience that great. They were very noisy. They were having a conversation and woke me up around 4AM. I believe this place should enforce quiet hours.

Okay considering the price
Located right next to Gion and Yasaka shrine, this ryokan had great location. It was only a 15-minute walk to Sannenzaka, which leads directly to Kiyomizudera. I'd say that's the best thing about this place. The room was clean enough, and the staff was helpful and friendly. But as the description says, it doesn't offer you breakfast. Also, bathrooms are shared and pretty far from the room, so that caused a slight inconvenience. Considering the price, I suppose that's fair. My conclusion is that while the place isn't perfect, it's great for travelers on a budget, especially if they want to visit Gion and Kiyomizudera.

Good ryokan experience on a budget
The hotel was pretty much as advertised - a ryokan-style budget hotel. It was clean and well-maintained; the staff were helpful and friendly (and spoke pretty good English). The location was quite convenient, being close to a major shopping and entertainment district, although a bit of a walk from the nearest subway station. (There are city buses that go closer which we didn't use). The hotel gave us a good feel for what a ryokan/japanese house experience would be.

Stayed in a private room with washroom. Had a nice view of a little rock garden and pond with fish. Good location. 10min walk to main downtown area. Good knowledgeable staff. Only negative is that it is an old building so you hear the wood floors and if people are heavy footed.

Perfectly situated for west of Kyoto
We stayed here a few nights. We were unaware that the bathrooms were communal but secured an ensuite at least for a night. Typical modern tatame room. All clean. More like a hostel with family rooms. Nice relaxed and helpful staff. An ofuru bath, was rather small had to be booked and was non too hot. The best thing was position. Very close to Kyomisudera etc and a stroll to the Gion and pontocho.

Great budget ryokan in prime location
When we first arrived, the staff was super friendly and helpful. They were also very personable and spoke English very well. The location is in a quiet area of Gion and relatively close to Kiyomizu-dera and other notable places in southern Higashiyama. The room was quite spacious for 4 people, and the futons were quite comfortable. Our private bathroom was fine for us and there were public facilities as well. Our hot water initially didn't work for our shower (which is the reason for the 4/5 for room comfort), but they fixed it right away after we inquired.

Casual ryokan in Gion
We are a family of four with two teenagers are enjoyed staying so centrally in Gion. Also enjoyed the ryokan experience and the fact that this was not a North American style standard hotel. Loved, loved, loved Kyoto.

Perfekt läge, charmigt ställe, men ganska obekvämt
Läget är perfekt! Vi älskade att promenera runt i området, särskilt tidig morgon eller kväll, när det inte är lika mycket folk och bilar överallt. Vandrarhemmet ligger på en lugn gata där dock biltrafik är tillåten. Vi stördes inget av larm utifrån under natten, men väggarna är tunna så du kan höra din granne snarka. Man kan få öronproppar gratis. Bo här om du vill få en smak av den japanska gamla stilen för en billig peng. Välj ett dubbelrum med trädgårdsutsikt om du kan. Vårt ”twin room” med varsin enkel futon (madrass) hade utsikt mot ett plank. Futonerna är tunna och de vackra tatamigolven något ojämna så tyvärr blev det en ganska hård sömn. Vi la till slut madrasserna på varandra och sov på dem båda två. Det blev trångt men bättre komfort. Dubbla futoner borde erbjudas mot en extra avgift! Vi behövde aldrig köa till dusch eller toa. De var alltid städade. Dock märker man att det är ett hus med fuktproblem då någon av duscharna och toaletterna har lite lite mögel på vägg eller tak. Boendet har ordet ”ryokan” i namnet och tidigare fanns en badtunna för gäster. Den verkar dock ha slutat användas under pandemin. Synd! Det enda som nu påminner om ett ryokan är den gamla stilen, inomhustofflorna och att du får låna en yukata (enkel kimono av bomull) under vistelsen. Du kan inte köpa till några måltider på boendet. Namnet är alltså lite missvisande. Totalt sett prisvärt, enkelt och charmigt boende med bra läge. Kan tänka mig att återvända!
