Short 10mins taxi ride from Kumamoto Train station, costs around 10USD for the taxi ride.
Within walking distance to Kumamoto Castle, if walking is not your thing, you can take a taxi to the entrance of Josaien, which will lead you to the entrance of Kumamoto Castle as well. The taxi ride was around 5mins, and cost less than 6USD.
It is also a short 10mins walk to Tsuruya Departmental Store, and plenty of cute shops in the nearby shopping arcade as well.
Great location.
Wonderful view of the castle straight from the window. Very convenient location for visiting castle and ginza, and plenty of place to eat close to hotel. Only negative is I cannot park our car in the hotels parking lot due to it being long, although it's a regular size car. Offsite parking was not convenient and its a hit and miss and very tight parking spots.
The location of the hotel is perfect. Castle is right across the river, Soseki Natsume's old residence is just 5 minutes walk away. You can find nice local food services like Kumamoto ramen Komurasaki and others just around the corners.
Free-drink free lounge with a great castle view is just something you want to experience at you hotel. Room, building, staffs, It's an A stay. Thank you!
The hotel was very nice…in 1995. Now, it feels like the ghost of a hotel. It’s not terrible, but there are a lot of little things that add up. Everything is quite old, the water from the bathroom smells bad, the keys reprogram if they get to close to your cell phone, the decor is all kind of yellow and brown, the beds are stiff and uncomfortable, and for the first time in Japan I encountered hotel staff that seemed like they wished I wasn’t there. No one was rude, but they didn’t seem to like me very much when I bed to get my key fixed.
One thing that is great is the view of the castle, that’s is amazing.
